I don't believe that women and blacks aren't capable of producing great literature. does that make me weird? I have 8-10 books written by blacks and almost 20 by women. how many do you guys have? let's crush this meme once and for all.

I have a copy of Octavia Butler's Fledgling and Xenogenesis kicking around. Half-read the first, haven't touched the latter (gift from a Mormon).

Tons of women in my anthologies, but I'll be arsed if I can find a standalone book written by a woman in my collection.

Would Paolo Bacigalupi count?

>I don't believe that women and blacks aren't capable of producing great literature. does that make me weird?
literally everyone thinks like you, so no.

I wonder what the sky queen is up too

well that doesn't seem to be what you guys think. with your red pills and other nonsense.

That's /pol9k/

>I don't believe that women and blacks aren't capable of producing great literature.

I don't think so either. But black culture in america and the mainstream women lifestyles are putting them at a disadvantage.

I've read some great literature by both women and blacks. But the majority of great stuff is made by white men.

>I have 8-10 books written by blacks and almost 20 by women. how many do you guys have?

are Irish considered white?
how about Argentines?

It's just cultural isn't it. For a long time writing was a white man thing ( in the west ) so most of the good books are written by white men. It's like saying I can't believe that white men are incapable of making really great underground music about life's struggles etc. Ain't a thing.

Irish is white. Argentine is like Mexican.

>Irish is white. Argentine is like Mexican.

thanks user.

how about Italians and Slavs?

>how many do you guys have?
>coloreds

What about people from Spain or Portugal

the Galicians and North Porugese are pretty white
but the further south, the more basketball in the genes

Argentina is 97% white.

I can't be bothered to count every book on my bookshelf, and it wouldn't be accurate because I get rid of books all the time, but last year I read 50 books.

18 were by women
2 were by blacks
5 were by Asians
1 was by a Persian
3 were by Hispanics

Why are so many people on here retarded? Anybody can write a fucking book and anybody can write the best book, all this shit needs to stop just let Veeky Forums become a board that never has threads with more than 10 replies stop talking talking about this dumbass garbage here and get fucked.

This is some pathetic bullshit OP. The board has a minor /pol/ infestation and you come in and feed them like this. Smdh. Either make a post discussing some of the books or take your hollow self affirming masterbation somewherd else

>does that make me weird

Jesus fucking christ

Great selection btw

Why is assumed that being white is a good thing?

Seeing all these non whites plead their races to an anonymous (white) authority figure makes me wonder. Besides the whole "we whites built western civilization" thing and mainstream genetic features what is the advantage you all are seeking? This civilization is in the hands of whites, and has been for almost all of modern history, and look what a mess it is.

If you're Spanish, Italian, Irish, Polish, Slavic, or any race that has to ask, just assume you are nonwhite and be ok with that.

>inb4 g8 b8 m8

>This civilization is in the hands of whites, and has been for almost all of modern history, and look what a mess it is.

A mess compared to what? All non-white countries are absolute shitholes.

>Argentina is 97% white.

>and look what a mess it is.

This. We're our own worst enemy. We can't even breed.

The immigrants are smart to take advantage of us and not assimilate, they know what's up. It pisses me off but you can't deny the logic of it.

...

Those are just memes dude

I only own 200 books, though.

Relevant reminder that /pol/ is the result of a neo-nazi astroturfing campaign and does not accurately represent the opinions of users here or the culture of this website.

I don't know how many I have - I own thousands of books - but currently reading Marlon James's "A Brief History of Seven Killings" and recently read all of Clarice Lispector's stories.

>wrong colour by accident
gets me everytime

don't take this place so seriously.
i'm black and /pol/ isn't even a blip on my radar. I'm just here for the recs and dank memes.

and the gets
>chek em

>superior numerics acquired

wow, checked

>Whitey gets 88 dubs on a nig
This is a magical place.

those were both me, boyo.
but thanks for mirin my dubs

Most men tend to create greater art than women. Most blacks are currently on a lower level of culture than whites. Of course, both blacks and women can technically create incredible art (just like any group); it's just that white men tend to write the best literature and create the greatest art in general. The reason for that is for you to determine.

>Big gets double dubs
Where can I learn this African shaman magic?

Yes, you are super weird for believing the exact same thing that 99% of Westerners believe xDD

#notliketheothergirls

I really wish /pol/ was deleted.

>Jane Austin

>Fredrick Douglass

Meme crushed.

>I have 8-10 books written by blacks and almost 20 by women.
You need to actually say what books they are

I don't know why so many people feel the need to start threads in which they deride or champion some genre or whatever but don't name one fucking book they like. Just go out on the fucking limb or don't start the fucking thread

I won't say this is a categorical truth, but I have noticed that in books I read written by women, the authors tend to spend an excruciating amount of time relate details of the setting. They will go into detail about all the furniture in the room, noting the type of wood pieces are made of, the stain, the way the grain flows etc. The attire of people can go on for paragraphs. It is just something odd I have noticed.

Women seem to make excellent translators.

But they can also be great writers. One of my favorite books of all time was written by a woman.

I haven't read too many blacks but I heard Toni Morrison was pretty damn good and if like to read her stuff.

Race/gender awareness or sensitivity in literature can only hurt. Yes a lot of the Canon books are written by white males, but a lot of them were also rich. I think in the case if writing being rich is more important than being white and male.

Most people on Veeky Forums are so pretentious that they have elevated themselves above the left/right paradigm, to say nothing of the huge amount of Christfags and unapologetic Stalinists.

The problems with female Veeky Forums and black Veeky Forums isnt that there arent good excellent examples, but that they lack the diversity of other demographics of writers. Black literature is the worst in that regard, as they are invariably writing about racialism, colonialism, or post-colonialism. As far as women, I'll let Norman Mailer take it:

>“I have a terrible confession to make—I have nothing to say about any of the talented women who write today. Out of what is no doubt a fault in me, I do not seem able to read them. Indeed I doubt if there will be a really exciting woman writer until the first whore becomes a call girl and tells her tale. At the risk of making a dozen devoted enemies for life, I can only say that the sniffs I get from the ink of the women are always fey, old-hat, Quaintsy Goysy, tiny, too dykily psychotic, crippled, creepish, fashionable, frigid, outer-Baroque, maquillé in mannequin’s whimsy, or else bright and stillborn. Since I’ve never been able to read Virginia Woolf, and am sometimes willing to believe that it can conceivably be my fault, this verdict may be taken fairly as the twisted tongue of a soured taste, at least by those readers who do not share with me the ground of departure—that a good novelist can do without everything but the remnant of his balls.” — Advertisements for Myself

Now I disagree in that I love a lot of non-fiction authors and WIlla Cather is one of my favorite authors, but the criticism is just.

The biggest issue I take with minority writers, at least contemporary examples, is that their themes revolve entirely around their being a minority. I can't count the number of stories I was forced to read throughout high school and college that focused on some black teen feeling out of place (although the setting was usual some urban center where there would have been a significant minority population) and having the white students ask to touch their hair, Asians whom wrote about those same white kids being unable to pronounce their name and having to assume a 'white' name to fit it, Native Americans dealing with the differences between the modern America at large versus their tribal homes and alcoholism. These themes seem completely unavoidable in the modern setting for minority writers. If it weren't for this I'm sure there would be a bevy of quality work but as it stands they limit themselves for unknown reasons.

Minority writers except latins; except latins that are US immigrants.

>if they aren't as equally invested in the constant left/right ego narrative game as I am they are, like, so pretentious

Blow it out your ass you nonsense pseud.

Looks a bit too recent. I was browsing /pol/ when it was /new/ like 6 years ago or something and that shit was still as stormfaggoty then as it is now. I no longer browse it.

A little jerk of the hook and the fish jump right in.

If that was a bait then you have clearly honed your art to a great subtlety.

Well played, fuckface.

...

Octavia Butler is not a good writer.

I find it so hilarious how Veeky Forums is so concerned with reading "deep" and "obscure" novels by white men, but are prejudice against so called "minority writers" because of some shit novel they were forced to read in school.
Also Toni Morrison is a much better writer than Cormac McCarthy. McCarthy can't write a fleshed out character to save his life.

I have hundreds of books by women, from 17th-century onward (and a few before) and complete collections of authors like Morrison, Woolfe, Eliot, the Brontes, Austen, and newer works, dozens of poets, etc. Kids here just like the sound of their own voices being misogynist. Most of them talk like they wrote Infinite Jest themselves, rather than just pretending they read it.
