World War 2 German Divisions

Hi Veeky Forums! I'm writing a book about a German infantry soldier during WW2, but I need help. (I've written a few books but they're mainly for fun.)

Out of these 3, which was the most involved in major battles of WW2?
-2nd Panzer Division "Das Reich"
-7th Panzer Division
-16th Infantry Division

(Feel free to add any more.
>fictional
>not going to be right to the point, shit will change.)
>pic sort of related

or would be a lot more helpful for you.

> or would be a lot more helpful for you.
/pol/ is surprisingly knowledgeable about ww2 era Germany
they had a lot of interesting threads about the holocaust

Waffen SS has some of the most interesting Divisions and Stories. I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoy German WWII history. I would recommend The HitlerJugend PanzerGrenadiers Waffen SS

What have you written before? WWII or is this a new interest? I have a fuckton of book suggestions for you. If you are interested

I recommend reading some combat memoirs of German Soldiers. I am currently writing one of my own. Good Luck!

will you let us read it when you are finished?

if you can't even research this basic shit for yourself without asking Veeky Forums, your book is going to be shit anyway

Written small WW2 stories, I want this to be a major one, but I write some sci Fi too!
>Pls name some book suggestions!

Maybe

I HAVE researched all of them, I just need advice on which to pick, or which would be more interesting to write about.

Better choices would be PzGrenadier Div Grossdeutchland, Pz Lehr, 12th SS Pz HJ, 5th SS Pz Wiking. 7th Pz has an interesting story but it all depends on what story you want to tell. If you actually want the general population to read it Grossdeutchland or Lehr may be better choices as they were 'elite' divisions but were not SS (although they were often in the same Corps as SS divisions). Grossdeutchland was also unique in that it had organic Tigers.

Try "The Black March" for inspiration

Fiction written as memoir

Enlisted or Officer?

Which Organization? Heer, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, or Waffen SS?

WWII Diary of a German Soldier
Blood Red Snow
In Deadly Combat: A German Soldier's Memoir of the Eastern Front
Forgotten Soldier
Soldat
Tigers in The Mud
Front Schwein
Black Edelweiss
Mir Selber Seltsam Fremd
Fuhrer Volk Und Faterland
Voices of the Waffen SS
Sniper on The Eastern Front
Hell's Gate
Teddy Suhren Ace of Aces

To start

Eastern Inferno is the best war memoir i have ever read.

i do realize some of these are not all infantry however. It could give an idea of what the enlisted/officer mindset is in each of the branches. Or what they saw of Infantry and how they lived etc.
Also Panzer COmmander and pic related

some of these are unpolitical, I have a few that are venomously anti Nazi in tone. I also can point you towards unapologetic National Socialist rhetoric

...

No, like I want it to be a big story.

Waffen SS or Heer

>op here
also, this it now a German War Photos thread, just because I love the previous pictures!
>and honestly all of you have been so helpful I cannot express my thanks enough

...

Their Stories are fascinating...

...

Write about Germany's Muslim, black and Indian Soldiers

...

...

...

its always interesting to hear Neo Nazis and anti Nazis saying. Hitler Hated Blacks,Muslims, etc. Only people he hated without question: Jews. In fact in Palestine and the middle East as a whole Hitler Is celebrated. Hamas Uses the Nazi/Roman salute. They also translated My Struggle to My Jihad and the best seller . drunk by the way sorry if i do not make sense and rant

Life of a German Soldier or something to that effect is fantastic. You could read that and presumably be capable of writing anything you like about the German Soldaten

I have a question on troop deployment
How do they get the new German soldiers from the training facility or wherever to the front? Never really knew how it happened, all I know is that most armies today use planes...

Depends on the Unit
Mounted units etc. However most of the time. Trains to the general area with their Equipment. Then if they are a mounted unit mechanized etc They get in their vehicles and motor their way to it. OR they walk.

trains/walking/vehicles

Railway and then trucks or (mainly) horse wagons and marching. Much is said of the German usage of armored/mechanized units, but the reality is their logistics train was almost entirely Napoleonic once you left the vicinity of the railroads.

Read the Wages of Destruction by Tooze btw.

Isn't that the funeral of the previous leader (forgot his name)?

heydrich?

the former Commander of the German Armed Forces during WWI?

their Stories are so fascinating. Fighting and losing their lives for The Fatherland. Defending their People and Nation against Communism and Hypocritical western nations. Whether you agree or not their conviction and combat effectiveness is incredible.

Kek.

I always thought it would be interesting to chronicle an ordinary young German who is not a racial fanatic or a Nazi who joins the SS out of pragmatism (it's a job, if I do the regime won't question me and I'll be safe, etc).

So it follows his life before during and after the war. SS men, because the SS was basically deemed a terrorist organization after the war and disbanded--were not entitled to pensions or other benefits that soldiers in the army, navy or airforce could receive. If the story explored his continuing struggle after the war--maybe he's in poverty or something in addition to his guilt but things he did during the war or whatever.. I think it would make for really intriguing fiction.

I'd like to write that book. Would need to

1. Become way better at writing
2. Do an ass ton of research
3. Ideally learn German.

Oh well.

>this thinly veiled stormfag /pol/ thread

I love WWII history but man this is cringe.

what is cringey about it?

...

...

Virginal troglodyte autistic memelords fawning over Nazi Germany is pretty fucking cringey, man.

...

lol and using those words. isnt? Virginal troglodyte autistic memelord? that is truly sad

Hey OP
Read "Der Krieg Und Der Deutschen: Deutschen Soldaten Und der Zweite Weltkrieg"
That will give you an idea

Just call me a "cuck" and get it over with, faggot.

OP will you be focusing on the unit you choose as a whole? More of a big picture story?
i.e The men of the "insert unit here" settled down and prepared fighting postions"

that kind of deal? or will it be even less personal and more of a tactical standpoint? forgive me i did not bother to read the whole thread

lol what
