>there hasn't been great Russian literature since this book
thanks communism
There hasn't been great Russian literature since this book
Yeah, fuck Gulag Archipelago and First Circle.
>only great literature from Soviet period was shitting on communism
proves my point
>Imblying
>op hasn't read any russian literature written after the master and margarita
thanks op
yes. it's shit. to the americans it's good if it is anti-soviet in any way. the soviet critics, likewise, thought that the bestest american authors were L. Frank Baum, Horace McCoy, John Steinbeck, Ernest Hemingway and Nathanael West.
lies. but naming anything is pearls before the pigs.
>theres tons of stuff! honest! b-but you guys just won't appreciate it!
>I would introduce you to the good stuff but it goes to a different school!
Get reading some Andrei Platonov comrade
Hard to be a God
Monday begins on Saturday
Strugatskies wrote some not bad sci-fi
This user is bluffing What's even more depressing is that we had more talented writers under commies then since 90s
I
WRITER: I am a writer!
READER: But in my opinion you are horse shit!
(The writer stands several minutes, shaken by this new idea, and then falls down dead. They carry him away.)
II
ARTIST: I am an artist!
WORKER: But in my opinion you are horse shit!
(The artist turned pale, like a sheet,
And then swung like a reed,
And he suddenly died, indeed.
They carry him away.)
III
COMPOSER: I am a composer!
VANYA RUBLYOV: But in my opinion you are horse shit!
(Heavily breathing, the composer sank down. They unexpectedly carry him away.)
IV
CHEMIST: I am a chemist!
PHYSICIST: But in my opinion you are horse shit!
(Without a word the chemist collapses heavily to the floor.)
Can someone who is Slavic make sense of this bar joke?
>This user is bluffing
Me? Never. I'll proceed to post good Soviet books now. Take heed.
going on
Not quite there yet
what the fuck am I reading
It's Daniil Kharms, he wrote absurdist stuff. This is not that absurdist, I always thought it was pretty funny, the joke is about your self-image crushing on reality.
Reads a bit like Kharms but is probably some other slav of that era.
For the unaware
these are memes
the other guy's recommendation of Sorokin is alright though
How does that make the book worse in any way?
You are a retard.
>life and fate
Who is 'VANYA RUBLYOV'?
Some proletarian guy.
Icon Painter; Lived during the Mongolian Invasions.
ice is a fun read user enjoy
I like Kharms' story where a guy tries to kill himself by suffocating himself in a box but the universe denies him such an easy death.
He was a great writer and I wish there would've been more.
Have you tried Urmuz? He only wrote a few stories but they're all quite similar, more random. I think the only collection of his stuff is on lib genesis
That was Andrey Rublyov.
I really loved Everything Flows, I've heard Life & Fates even better though. No one talks about Grossman.
No. Andrey was his retard brother. Vanya was in fact so good that all his icons got destroyed and he himself got blinded, broken on the wheel and tarred, feathered and burned as a probable Popish Schizmatic.
10/10 cover, damn
>Have you tried Urmuz?
Nope. I see the collection is pretty short, probably will read it tonight. Thanks for recommendation
Shalamov - The Koloyma Tales
you guys are keeping naming guys known by everyone. but keep it up.
Bayan Shiryanov.
I'm getting an implication here that we shouldn't talk about someone who has readers even though nobody names these semi-famous figures on Veeky Forums very often
