I see why this board is disgusting. Too many 18yo, even if one of them isn't.

>19
>haven't read enough to determine a whole five authors...

Wown guys the older guy is super cool really showed us our place!

Fuck off and take your wikipedia selection of great writers out of here.

Why do a thread when underaged have to lie?

exactly... These 18 and 19 year olds haven't read enough to pick five authors. They probably haven't even read the complete works of one.

I've been using Veeky Forums since you where an 8yo kid. Don't be mad, you're just stupid and like to pretend you're not. You talk about books you didn't read and give recommendations based on what you read other anons say.
It's ok, I did that too back when I still lived under mom's roof. But you're already moving out, right user?

22

Tolstoy
Gogol
Hamsun
Steinbeck
Shakespeare

Fite me.

Why do people post Plato or Mishima or whatever?
How do you tell one is a good writer if all you've read are translations?

24

Plato
Kierkegaard
Stevens
Shakespeare
McCarthy

20

>Dostoevsky
>Edward Gibbon (never laughed so much reading history)
>Kierkegaard
>Montaigne
>Aristotle (not for his prose obviously)

retroactive ban

A great deal of content is translatable. Plato is magnificent enough as a thinker that even if translations of his works butcher the original force and nuanced complexity of his prose, he's still more worthwhile to read than just about anyone whom I can read in the original language. Plato's ideas transport and transform you. And that's true the more time you spend reading and rereading him.

*truer

It's ok as long as you boys understand you're not welcome. We're both going to stay, but I want you to know that you ruin this board and that's the way it always was.

So close to acceptable! Keep swimming, user! Don't let the forces of mediocrity posing as sublimity sink you! I still have hope!

And when you've finished trying to assert your personality with an unconventional pick, and you get over those last hurdles of self-obsession in the worst of senses, you'll be light enough, finally, to swim to shore. And there I'll be waiting for you. With open arms.

Thats it dont really like other writers. I find the ocasional good novel here and there, but most writers seem to have a very inconsistent tone with their stuff which I dislike.
I am Veeky Forums's worst nightmare with my shit taste.
