Geniune question, no memes here: Why are americans so fat?

Is it the food itself? Is it eating habits? Maybe both?

Why is this a question everyday on this board?

We have the best food in the world by far.

I think it's a lack of vacation time and general outdoor activities rather than diet. Most countries don't eat well, but most are afforded more down time from work and exercise is encouraged.

Here in the US we eat, work, eat, sleep and maybe get a 4 day weekend once or twice a year. We've basically become machines.

I think europeans are particularly obsessed with this lately because in the last few years their obesity rates are skyrocketing up to near American levels and they're scared.

It's nothing to worry about, just the crumbling of Western civilization.

We don't eat food. We eat food-flavored candy. Seriously, check the added sugar or corn syrup in the shit you're eating sometime, it's horrifying.

genuinely clicked on this thread to say this

that and the distance we have to cover on a regular basis is much farther than the average european. most of us dont ever walk anywhere because the store is 12 miles away. people living in very dense urban cities tend to be the thinnest and people living in rural areas where you prettymuch have to drive everywhere are typically going to be overweight (see: new york vs mississippi)

I'll take the bait.

It's a tiered issue.

1. Absolute shit healthcare due to greed and capitalism infecting our insurance market and conservative retards so afraid of helping a nigger they shoot down any useful advancement towards something that makes sense like single-payer

2. Manipulation of our food by corporations to increase bottom line and decrease expenses by jamming everything full of preservatives and empty calories

3. Lobbying by food and agriculture groups that keep the public uninformed about things like sugar intake or just how much fucking corn is in everything you've ever eaten

4. Sedentary lifestyles brought on by living in an extremely developed country where food is abundant and physical activity is considered an extraneous pastime

5. Skewed perspective. There's plenty of fat fucks in literally every country. But because America is easily the most well-known and exposed country on the planet people know a lot more about us than we know about them.

6. A government that long ago realized that the populace is much easier to control when they are sick and fat and distracted, all of which are easily accomplished by tainting both the actual food supply and what we consider to be healthy eating habits.

7. Body positivity movements started by lonely fat bitches and then funded and pushed by food companies and government agencies that attempt to make anyone who is physically fit seem like they are brainwashed by unrealistic beauty standards or are wasting their life achieving a state of physical fitness.

8. A culture that centers around food and the dopamine loops it helps to enable

9. A country that has unrivaled access to the most diverse selection of foods ever seen in human history and the abundance to have the liberty to try them at your leisure.

There's probably more.

No excuses, America.

Standard restaurant portions are about three times as large as what you'd get in Europe.

People apparently plain eat a whole fucking lot.

>A country that has unrivaled access to the most diverse selection of foods ever seen in human history and the abundance to have the liberty to try them at your leisure.

Yet all the fat people eat the same shit tier fastfood

The fast food corporations are working with the government. They secretly subsidize fast food so that the american people get really fat. This is obvious from the multiple fast food places you see wherever you go. They're everywhere and it's chemically engineered in a laboratory to be delicious.

Since like 75% of USA is very fat and disgusting, they clog up the health care system and create dollars for big pharma. Then the government spits out billions on healthcare, burdening the tax payers who are eating the fast food, getting fat and sick? You see how it's all linked? One big circle. Control, wealth, subdue.

This is inaccurate. Courses, for example, are a staple of French cuisine, the plates may be smaller but overall it's more food (and dessert is basically mandatory). In the US that isn't a thing in most eateries...it's beverage>appraiser>main course and an option for dessert.

As said, it has a lot to do with the fact that people in the U.S. don't live in a country the size of Maine.

Thanks Obama!

isn't mexico fatter? or not far behind?

>whataboutism

Fatter. An so are a bunch of middle eastern countries.

isnt pizza labeled a vegetable by the USA goverment?

that shit is taken straight from some comedy skit.

Mexico apparently has a higher obesity rate than the U.S. but I don't trust that shit having been to Mexico several times.

I believe the ruling was that an average piece of pizza contains a SERVING of vegetables, because of the tomatoes and the fact that vegetables like onions are a popular topping.

Didn't stop the aspies from immediately turning it into a meme about PIZZA IS A VEGETABLE LOL AMERICA SO FAT, though.

I think it's the food itself.
Veeky Forums tells me a whole pizza isn't a meal for one and that they use sugar in spaghetti sauce.
I think they add sugar in weird places and that makes normal dishes too caloric.

Trump Country in a nutshell.

High glucose corn syrup.

There's many documentaries on this. Both on Youtube and Netflix. It's the food industry man. Portions too big. Fast food too available and too poorly sourced. Free soda refills

Fructose

He's not even president yet, calm your liberal tits

didnt pizza got labeled as a vegetable so you could serve them in schools as "healthy meal"?

i have never seen actual tomatoes in american pizza. they are dough, cheese and """"tomato"""" sauce, thats more sugar than actual tomato.

Why are middle eastern countries so fat? Because it's so fucking hot that they never go out but eat a lot? Because "western" junk food doesn't suit them?

Sugar is added to pasta sauce to cut the bitterness of the tomato, dumbass.

Honey is also an option.

>Because "western" junk food doesn't suit them

You kidding me? There are KFCs all over the Middle East and they make a killing. Mohammad loves those 11 herbs and spices

Same reason any country is fat. Wide availability of processed food combined with a lack of physical activity.

This sort of thing is going to happen to any country once a certain wealth threshold is reached. When people aren't working high-manual-labor jobs and they can easily afford food without having to actually prepare it themselves then obesity is a given.

It's tied to a nation's wealth. Wealthy enough for fast-food restaurants and premade meals to be all over the place? Wealthy enough that the average person is sitting on their ass? High obesity rate.

This happened to America first but it's since been spreading elsewhere.

This. The greeks and the romans were fat fucks too once they reached a point where their wealth and success overcame their need to work.

Same thing with being gay. It only happens in times of great economic success and population boom because people stop feeling the overbearing pressure to reproduce and instead focus on their carnal desires.

>Here in the US we eat, work, eat, sleep and maybe get a 4 day weekend once or twice a year.
Yea if you're a wagecuck. Try getting a real job where you actually have 2 weeks vacation as a start.

Nice wall of text you stupid commie shit

>LOL WAGEKEK

>Literally talking down to over half the country

Stop acting like only retarded losers end up in jobs that treat them like shit. Worker's rights and vacation time is a fucking joke in America unless you get lucky enough to be in the minority who works for a company that gives a fuck about you.

It wasn't even that long, faggot. Sorry not everybody speaks in one-sentence angry outburst you fucking mongoloid.

The traditional American farm family diet at the turn of the last century was 4000-5000 calories a day per person. (Della Lutes, the Country Kitchen, Little, Brown and Co, 1938). But the arduous physical work of chores on a self-sustaining family farm burned off that many calories.

Within two generations America transitioned to lifestyles where the average person burns just over 2000 calories a day. But food is cheap, and traditional patterns of eating hang on, especially in rural areas.
