Full time 40 hours a week produce clerk

>full time 40 hours a week produce clerk
>still don't get paid enough

Going to get a second part time job. Any suggestions for a 19 year old? I worked at McDonalds last year for 3 months before quitting because the environment (keyword: niggers) was so toxic and annoying. I'm thinking Chick-Fil-A but I think that'd be even MORE stressful than either Mickey D's or my produce clerk "career" because how busy and uppity that fucking place is, especially to an objective uggo like OP.

That's a dead end, get some loans and go to trade school.

fpbp

get a job in a restaurant. once you can start pulling tips, you'd never consider working in fast food or a grocery store again. if you start as a dishwasher and show initiative/ask questions, you could be a server within a year (probably). servers/bartenders at decent restaurants make stupid good tips.

>full time grocer
>doesn't get paid enough
you're union right?
just suck it up for a few years

All the unionized tradesmen who work in my grocery store doing maintenance work look miserable too.

Not attractive enough to be a server.

Yeah, but I'm going to have to be there for 5 years to make $15/hr.

I'm going to go with... boy.

5 years isn't that long and you have insurance already right?

I have Medicaid because I don't make enough from my retail slavery. If I get a second job I most likely will lose my free health insurance but it's a risk I might have to take because $275 a week is fucking ridiculously low.

5 years is a long time.

It's really not that long to break into a career with security and a pretty easy one at that. Buy a scooter and get a room mate.

>union

I worked at a grocery store in a right to work state for 3 years

Attempting to form or join a union was a terminate offense. They even had signs encouraging you to report people discussing unions.

Well, good for the business I guess. Not great for you though.

That's not legal. They can't actively tell unions to fuck off, but they have no legal obligation to listen to them nor do you have an obligation to join one as part of employment.

They can fire you for literally any reason though, so unionization is a great way for everybody to lose their jobs to "poor customer satisfaction"

Kroger and Meijer are union but both companies have literally KEKED the unions for the past 5 years. They have lost a lot of power and any new employees are fucked when it comes to benefits because of the faggot ass unions

>That's not legal.
>They can fire you for literally any reason though

Do you not see how they make it legal literally within your own post?

No job is a dead end, especially not that one learn from it but studying what makes produce better. I started at jobs like that when I was 18/19. Was a bagger for a coffee company... and moved around for job to job just waiting for a good one. It wasn't until I realized you have to DECIDE to always be better than everyone else at work to get ahead... No matter what you do. I have done lots of jobs, have started over a few times, failed... learn as quickly as possible that NO JOB is under you. Learn that it's your job to make your bosses life easier. Learn to be a sefless servent, and then this start coming your way. Let finding happiness in working hard, playing harder, and living life drive you. Don't get discouraged when you don't get a promotion you feel like your the best for... let it motivate you. When you can get it out of your mind that there are always thing to be learned no matter what you do, things will turn around.

People will tell you I am wrong along the way, people will try to tell you your wasting your time... but don't listen to them as they lie. All they want to do is drowned you with them.

Take from this advise what suits you. You have a long time to go kid and keep you head up.

Sincerely,
Guy who spent the evenings sleeping in a tent besides railroad tracks getting government assistance as a kid to know owning three companies, has a beautiful wife and kids, has his own home, rental properties, yet understands money will never make you happy guy.

I am so sure user posting on an annonymous chinese pornography vector totally owns 3 companies and has a beautiful and loving family

the only beautiful and loving family you have is the one you see in your fever dreams as you shoot meth into your dick

That being said, your delusional drug addled advice is sound.

Op you are 19 fucking years old. Do your time, put it on a resume. If you're depressed, I strongly advise seeking help, my grocery job nearly fucking killed me it was so soul destroying. Strongly consider attending a trade school or university, just avoid bullshit majors.

>unions
>grocery store

There is literally no point, working at a grocery store for the most part is about hiring the cheapest labor possible when possible. The skills required to work in one is in no short demand outside of things like meat cutting or something like that.

There is no short supply of cashiers or people to bag shit
There is no short supply of people willing to night stock shelves
There is no short supply of people willing to push bread in an oven
There is no short supply of people willing to put apples out

It's cheaper and easier to put stuff where profit margins can be the highest loss which is usually your meat related departments. It's much easier to higher low wage workers and decently paid department managers to enforce polices.

Hiring high paid workers in most common grocery stores unlike whole foods or such where they can price gouge is basically committing business suicide.

What age are you? I just want to know when you finally got life figured out and became successful.

I know 19 seems really young, but I just turned 19 too. So I'm still 18 really, and I feel so behind. That's my problem. I was so used to being an over achiever in school and advancing faster that I feel like I'm already 10 years behind everybody else because I only work full time at a fucking grocery store for nothing. Produce is one of the hardest departments to work in too but it pays like shit.

>There is no short supply of people willing to put apples out
Working in Produce isn't just a friendly, smiling 95lb petite college woman doing it as a part time job putting out fresh Fuji apples for a photo op. It's a lot more than that.

>Op you are 19 fucking years old. Do your time, put it on a resume. If you're depressed, I strongly advise seeking help, my grocery job nearly fucking killed me it was so soul destroying. Strongly consider attending a trade school or university, just avoid bullshit majors.

This too, thinking working in a grocery store will get you set for a career is far fetched unless you are in good with management and they want to move you up. Even community colleges are cheap and generally can get you into a job or trade field fairly quick.

>no short supply of
This.
If you live in CA get the fuck out of this sinking ship or get in to a union.

But life will be easier almost anywhere else if you learn a trade.

>Working in Produce isn't just a friendly, smiling 95lb petite college woman doing it as a part time job putting out fresh Fuji apples for a photo op. It's a lot more than that.

I know, I worked in one for 6 years to put myself through college. Started as a bagger worked all my way up to part of management by the time I was finishing college. Produce is still an expendable position for the most part and has a much lower loss rate than other departments. It is also to tell super quick when something isn't right because produce is one of the easiest things for a manager to check, and the product generally moves quick.

>I feel so behind

Your perceptions are so fucking skewed by america's media it would be funny if it wasn't sad.

You aren't behind. You aren't behind anything. 19 year olds do not own companies, they don't own stocks, they don't run small businesses and they aren't CEO's. You literally just got out of highschool.

Everyone in highschool who told you that you were an adult now? Yeah, they were full of shit. Try 30.

There are people 3 times your age working the same jobs as you, living with your parents. Consider that for a fucking second.

If you are 1. Healthy 2. Motivated 3. Don't have any fucking Kids then you are WAY AHEAD of a lot of people.

You aren't garbage, son. The fact you're even worrying about this at such a young age means you are way ahead of the curve. They say youth is wasted on the young for a reason - I wish I could go back to when I was 19-20 with the maturity I gained from the soul crushing despair of terrible jobs and clinical depression and kick ass.

>I know 19 seems really young, but I just turned 19 too. So I'm still 18 really, and I feel so behind.

Let me guess, you are also one of those people who think that if you don't get married before 25 your life is essentially over

The idea behind unions is that if everybody stands up at once they won't fire all of you. Fuck forced state backed unions that have no teeth.

Which doesn't work in grocery stores at all since they could just let everyone stand up, then pull from other stores which generally have a bunch of part time workers willing to transfer for more hours at the drop of a hat

In something like a grocery store they totally can fire you all without batting an eye. those jobs are easy to replace.

it makes far more sense for SKILLED jobs like factory workers, teachers, etc

but how many backflips can u do while holding ur bootstraps?

That's the point of the unions you bozo. The bigger grocery chains do billions in sales a year. The least they can do is take care of their employees
