Because we allow big corporate publishers to hold copyrights to work done 2 centuries ago by people 1 billion times smarter than them.

Because we live in a corporate technocracy.

>democratic
>technocracy

pick one

>implying the free market is undemocratic
>implying corporations aren't people

I really dislike modern sci-fi/cyberpunk art, most of it is "take a picture/drawing of a city and superimpose giant structures on it" and the rest of it looks like a splattering of neon lights and shit.

The reason that we aren't advancing at incredible speeds is because we are wasting out time trying to reach other goals such as who can get to mars first and then commit suicide because of how boring it is. Also, you don't see as many intelligent people in today's society for a multitude of reasons such as social media taking away from their education and external sources such as shitty canned foods that last for 50 years.

Time and again it turns out core democratic values such as free speech are not enough of an incentive to switch consumers away from monopolistic corporations.

I think the biggest problem is the current government standing in the way. The people who actually make the decisions have everything they want, money, power, the best healthcare. Why would they want anything to change? The government also stifles innovation to prop up failing industries, we've seen it with the automotive, movie, music, and oil industried, etc... They subsidize education with student loans so that people that would do research and innovate are saddled with a life time of debt. Another problem is the voters, most people just don't understand the issues, they don't know anything about science, and they are stuck in the 2 party system mindset where you must vote republican or democrat.

>going to Mars
>stupid

Imho the real reason is social/cultural/political progress not being able to keep the pace of technological progress. You could put a group of experts working on a national/global online educational support system based on MOOC sites such as edx.org, and they could deliver a decent solution in less than a year for very little money compared to other expenditures. Such a system would save a ton of money in physicial text books, and improve education bypassing bad teachers and bad schools, giving students access to good material and video-lessons from great teachers.

But how much time would it take for such a thing to be approved in a political parlament?

Same thing for digital payment. Getting rid of physical money and going all-digital through a centralised system equals getting rid of submerged economy and other kinds of fraud, but go and ask politicians or even society to implement such a thing.

This. Technological solutions to most of our problems are incredibly easy and obvious at this point, and could result in an immense increase in health, productivity, and happiness for everyone. But corporations refuse to look at new ways to make a profit, people reject new and better ways to live, and governments thrive off of bureaucracy so nothing gets done. Society also crushes personal initiative and creativity through enforced conformity and public schooling, breaking most of the free thinkers who could implement such policies and leaving everyone else unable to even improve themselves without being led along. Letting retarded bullshit get in the way of the fact that we literally could be living in paradise right now just makes me hate humanity.

>Hating humanity
Kys loser. I enjoy both the stagnation and progress humanity makes.

Why aren't we all living under a single state?

Boy fucking Muslims, decapitating Mexicans, and baby raping AIDS infested niggers get a say in the goverment. Do you want that?

It's not that we're stupid, it's that we're complacent. Most people don't give a fuck about progress as long as they have their electrified cave, their corporate designated berry picking station, approximate two and a half partial genetic clones, an individual of variable genetic expression to keep them company, and their nightly fried poultry offering.

tl;dr
>If it ain't broke, why should I fix it?! LOL XDDD

This. I would think that in reality if we lived in a real scientific utopia that we would be going down with our ground bound infrastructure, not up.

Monopols are never a good thing. I'm really scared that today's nations become bigger and bigger, e.g. EU.
>1984

>Being scared of the EU
To be honest if you are scared of bigger nations who enforce will on you like 1984 you should be afraid of the Peoples Republic of China, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, Union of Soviet Socialist Republic.

To be honest you should be more afraid of the US than EU to enforce things/policies. Hell Canada is scarier than the EU in terms of 1984.

Not him but the EU isn't a threat to anyone outside its borders but within things are very 1984. The EU openly cracks down on political dissenters and heavily censors opinion. Merkel went to Zuckerberg to censor criticism people had of Muslims during the migrant crisis ffs. Juncker has even had a few slips admitting to lying to get his way. And now the EU has started its army that it is using to effectively annex Britain which voted to leave while making Britain pay for its annexation. There is no state in existence that is more of a coercive pseudo-democratic oligarchy than the EU. The US openly says it is a republic while the EU hides its true nature in a clusterfuck of unaccountable appointments.

Because incredibly smart people are usually incredible autists. I'm assuming you don't even have a science related job, or you'd know how stupid putting one of these people in power would be. Just look at how autistic Veeky Forums is, and the board probably only has a slightly higher than average intelligence. People want the people representing them to most closely resemble who they themselves are. Rednecks want rednecks, liberals want liberals. People who hold science as one of the most important things in life are no where near like most people. Not to mention being a scientist doesn't necessarily make you a good decision maker. They're knowledgeable in their field, but possibly as dumb as anyone else in other fields. A rocket scientist could still know fuck all about foreign policy and a theoretical physicist could still make a pretty shit secretary of state.

It's funny how many scientists fail to make companies.

I swear if Veeky Forums is representative of the scientific community we are so fucked, this board is nothing but dick waving, no one gives a fuck about actually making people's lives better.

No, I kinda want humans in my single nation. At least we won't need all that military, and that budget can actually go into useful things.

You almost got me until the "the EU started his own army to annex Britain"

>technocrats decide Veeky Forums is crap
>no more Veeky Forums

Because there are people who don't want to do things that they are good at.

Well at least they use veiled threat about economic reprisals etc towards GB.
But also in military way it becomes more and more a thread. Since years there's an extreme propaganda against Russia. They allow that the NATO installs missile installation in former soviet states, Sweden reintroduces conscription, last month there was a big troop movement in Germany towards east, etc. etc.
EU is an aggressor.
But worst of all is still the propaganda. I know, your media is also very biased, but the German public service broadcasting is propaganda 24/7.

Yeah, I'm fucking afraid about the EU.

the world's single biggest problem right now is psychopathy, particularly jewish psychopaths

remove their genes from the pool, and everything will get exponentially better

How about a direct democracy that uses technocratic principles to choose public workers untill we can get rid of those by placing soft AI in those jobs?

Really, this whole fake democracy we've had for a few centuries was a cool idea at the time, but it's outdated, with the internet we can have true democracy again, no need for politicians.

enjoy having russian and chinese hackers run the country

Real democracy is a pipe dream farce and there isn't enough to go around for everyone to have their own paeadise.

Stick to your science and leave handling society to people who don't let fantasy influence important decisions.

Obviously it would have to be very well prepared and created from scratch on an independent system that does not give a fuck and does not allow access to people on the outside

Because of (((them)))

>We've
>Fake democracy
Nobody really uses democracy. Hell even the United States who "supports democracies" isn't even a democratic state, its a constitutional federal republic

China is a technocracy.

Its working pretty well for them. They have a lot more faith in their government than we have in ours

But media say it's a dictatorship and Chinese people are suppressed and exploited?

Yeah but they love it

What we need is a godamn basic income to facilitate newer innovative ways of solving our problems that lead to exponential growth.

I have to ask

Is that a trap?

>I dont want to work
>Make decent people pay for me being a useless piece of filth

That's Jason Smith's girlfriend. My cuck friend.

as much as I oppose it, it will eventually becomeinevitable, as automation progresses

that bulge on her crouch tho

We live in a Representative Republic because the founders of the US were less stupid than you. Technocracy implies that those who control high technology control society, which essentially creates Fascism or Corporatocracy.

Your utopian bullshit doesn't make any sense and if you took ten seconds to think about it you'd know why.

If we surrender 100% of non-recreational human activity to machines and have everyone live like 4th century romans, we will lose the essensce of humanity and society will certainly crumble, or humans will be pased out by working intellkgent machines.

>If we surrender 100% of non-recreational human activity to machines
>If
>not when

all it will take to do it, is to machines become better and more efficient at those activities, witch is just a matter of time

There's something to this.

What we consider "smart" is some social reject REEEEEE level autist who can spout prime numbers for an hour, or play piano at 4 but cannot have a conversation. So many "omg smart" people are fucking broken in major ways. They are the equivalent to human calculators: simple machines who are good at 1 thing and fail at all others.

Historically speaking, that was not considered "intelligent". A truly intelligent person was someone who had a "classical education" or knowledge base...and studied all subjects to greater or lesser degrees. They may have excelled in 1, but they were polymaths who had a lot of knowledge in MANY subjects.

Maybe we should get back to that?

Stop doing stupid spelling bees and math olympics and go back to something more like academic decathalon? Autists and spergs are freaks who should be shut away doing repetitive tasks in a back room some where, not acting as role models for intelligence. More Da Vinci...less Rain Man.

It's an interesting line of thought. I often think our education system is broken for this among other reasons. The entire methodology used is just wrong.

>tfw know bases for most "mainstream" scientific fields
>tfw "inteligent" people still call you stupid

>Getting rid of physical money and going all-digital through a centralised system equals getting rid of submerged economy and other kinds of fraud, but go and ask politicians or even society to implement such a thing.

that's dumb as fuck though

if they get rid of physical money then I don't have anything I just have some numbers on a computer

>baiting on the high spectrum board

wanna see you pull that up on Veeky Forums

Democracy is stupid.

Have you SEEN how stupid the average person is? A direct democracy would hardly ever approach a technocracy, as the people smart enough to create and sustain a technocratic society are vastly outnumbered by people incapable of even learning to accomplish such.
