You can become a hunter and help cull overpopulated and invasive species. You can raise your own animals for meat, milk or chickens for eggs. You could also visit local farms and buy products from them when they have practices you find ethical. You can eat seafood, especially mollusks (which literally do not have brains). Be very wary of shellfish, especially shrimp, as the industry is rife with human slavery.

Find a local small farm, or find a day when they have "farm shows" in the country. Most will let you tour the farm to see how the animals live. Cows are dumber than rocks so I eat them quite a bit. Seriously though I dabbled in vegetarianism back in college because of animal cruelty. I grew out of it but to this day I still feel guilty when I eat pork. Pigs are such intelligent and wonderful animals and I think they are smart enough to actually comprehend their suffering. Sometimes I still eat it but I think it's best to stay away from eating pork.
