Is there a word for something beautiful and ugly at the same time?

Is there a word for something beautiful and ugly at the same time?

Dateable

snugly

In what way?
Is this for a story you're writing?

Lacrimae rerum

This is my favorite picture of her.
One of my favorite pictures hands down desu.

But to answer your question, not that I'm aware of. Uncanny might go some way perhaps. I think they have such a word in French but I'm not sure.

Grotesque.

Who is this?

bjork

Nah

Grimes.

i think grimes
it looks like chloe sevigny too

Thanks

Sublime apparently means so beautiful that it causes you pain. Maybe there is a word in the culinary world that is close to what you want as it is a pretty common phenomenon in food

I ask, the question above, only because, if you were writing a story it would be the perfect opportunity to practice your descriptive writing. It could be as short as two words or go on for a paragraph depending on your needs.

But if you're just doing a crossword puzzle...

And Grimes is not ugly. You just fetishize makeup.

Oxymoron?
How the fuck can something be beautiful and ugly, you tard?

Imagine being this simple

Autism

Something can be an ugly thing described beautifully. Do you even read?

That doesn't make the thing beautiful.
Or
it means that the narrator finds the thing beautiful, meaning that from the narrator's point of view the thing is beautiful and the narrator has no need for a words that describes both beauty and ugliness

So, fuck off and stop trying to invent a problem where there isn't

Words are meant to function with a fixed idea, but often (always?) you'll find they drift and meld.

>>That doesn't make the thing beautiful.

We all have different ideas of what beauty are. To many peace is beautiful. To others, pride is more beautiful than peace. Many think love is beautiful, many think it is an ugly thing.

What you do with this information you accumulate throughout your life, is up to you.

But to say you can objectively define beauty is ridiculous.

awful

The campaign is truly ugly, while what it's doing to the GOP is just beautiful. Thus, the word you are looking for is Trump

lol at this fucking nose

>I don't understand how words work

Get the fuck off Veeky Forums. How did you even wander onto here?

I think I told you to shut the fuck up you little bitch.
I've explained myself quite clearly, there's no such word in english language because the concept is 'something that's both beautiful and ugly' can only exist in figurative/metaphorical sense. What you're suggesting is fucking newspeak.

Beautifugly

Women

The closest I can get is 'Regret'.

You're going to do it anyway and for good reason, but you will regret it.

Regret what?

>I've explained myself quite clearly
this is why i come to Veeky Forums

the laughs never cease

Grimesical

Get off my board you fucking pleb.

?

Beautiful disaster, beautiful burnout, hot mess, grungy, unhinged, smutchy, slovenly, offbeat, scruffy, frowzy, jolie laide.

Iridescent beauty. Or at least, as I think of it.

jolie laide is the only correct answer you dullards

schonunschon (with the umlauts) could work

I'm not a native speaker, but it would translate to something like 'beautiful not-beautiful' with the 'un' invoking 'und'.

But yeah I probably couldn't even read 'babby's first book' in German so don't take this to heart.
Grimes and every female over 16 is pretty ugly.

Ordinary

thats two words and incredibly wrong anyway

and fucking gay

Donald Trump

Terrific

Fucky
>"She's a bit fucky, isn't she"

Maybe homely?

Reminds me of Kafka's description in his diary of when he first met Felice Bauer:
>When I arrived at Brod's on 13 August, she was sitting at the table. I was not at all curious about who she was, but rather took her for granted at once. Bony, empty face that wore its emptiness openly. Bare throat. A blouse thrown on. Looked very domestic in her dress although, as it turned out, she by no means was. (I alienate myself from her a little by inspecting her so closely ...) Almost broken nose. Blonde, somewhat straight, unattractive hair, strong chin. As I was taking my seat I looked at her closely for the first time, by the time I was seated I already had an unshakeable opinion.

The best way to describe something that is both beautiful and ugly is to just describe the thing.

You can have a girl who dresses cute and has an adorable face but has no notability in sexual features and has a rank tuna pussy.

You can have a girl with great sexual features and a great build and perfect skin and great hair, but her face looks like that of a dog.

Just describe the thing.

real

Bugliful. She was bugliful, yet her cromulence shone through.

>I've explained myself quite clearly

>homely

This.

I was just thinking about this with the word "pulchritude." It actually just means beauty, but it's an ugly fucking word that reminds me of puke or putrid etc.

>pulchritudious

>How the fuck can something be beautiful and ugly, you tard?
>being this stupid

thanks man, haven't felt so intellectually superior in a long time

>How the fuck can something be beautiful and ugly, you tard?

An object, a scenery, a person, can be visually ugly, yet aesthetically pleasing.

It can also be the opposite: Visually pleasing, yet cause revulsion..

Like a coal plant in fog, pumping out dirt in the air, or the mushroom cloud left by an atomic bomb.

A face can at the same time be grotesque, yet intriguing.

Beauty, in faces, is often deviation for a certain standard. But the standard is dynamic and so what is considered beautiful changes drastically over time.

Some faces are just caught between two extremes. They are not mediocre, not average, they are in a transition from ugly to beautiful, or the other way around.

Thousands of girls have pretty faces, yet international top models often have very distinctive features. Some were looked upon as ugly as sin one day, but declared goddesses years later.

Even I can think of many examples, for example how Tailor Swift often looks repulsive, even offensive to me, yet sometimes she seems like the prettiest girl on earth.

A lot of people also said Cara Delevigne looks like a boy, how her eyebrows disfigure her face. Well, sometimes it seems that way to me, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes both at the same time.

This becomes even more apparent with porn actresses. Sometimes those things that are supposed to turn me off are what make a face unique.

Look at the picture provided. Her nose is clearly too wide, her lips too thick for her face. The eyes are very small in proportion to her slightly chubby face. All these deviations are what constitute her attractiveness, without them she would just be one face among millions.

I guess if you're a complete simpleton and prefer generic faces, like to eat at McDonalds, get all your inventory at IKEA and only like hyperrealistic pictures of landscapes then yeah, you will never realize that there beauty and ugliness can coexist.

As for the opening poster: The only word that sufficiently describes this phenomenon is ambiguity.

You are all wrong, by the way. It does not matter what ones beauty standards are at all. Neither does subjectivity matter.

What the opening poster is describing is something that is beautiful and ugly at the same time, to the same person. You cannot answer with "beauty is different for everyone". Of course it is, it is just irrelevant.

The picture I omitted from my last post

>Neither does subjectivity matter.

This is a very stupid opinion.

Did you read my post at all? I will slow down the explanation to you since you seem inable to grasp even the simplest thing:

A person can be beautiful and ugly to one person at the same time.

How does subjectivity matter in this case? We are not comparing beauty standards, but rather discussing the issue whether or not it is possible for an object or a person to have both these qualities:

[1] Beautiful
[2] Ugly

The persons standards of beauty could be whatever, the answer is always yes. For every person there is something that can be both beautiful and ugly, even if they deny it.

All you described is the fact that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Nuclear shroom in itself IS beautiful. It's the destruction and genocide we associate with it that are ugly. Your examples of facial beauty are just silly.
>A person can be beautiful and ugly to one person at the same time.
Yes, faggot, from different points of view
X, Y, Z are people
Y thinks X is beautiful
Z thinks X is ugly
Does it make X both ugly and beautiful? Nope, it only proves that beauty is not absolute. You can't say 'Well, I think X is uglytiful!' because you are only a person just like Y and Z, and your opinion must reflect on your personal belief.

>All you described is the fact that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Completely wrong on all accounts. It is precisely what I did not describe.

>It's the destruction and genocide we associate with it that are ugly.

So what? Beauty can judge something abstract. An idea can be beautiful. The depiction of a mushroom cloud can be beautiful, while the idea of the mushroom cloud is ugly.

Both change the way we interpret our sense-data.

>Your examples of facial beauty are just silly.

Why? Is the best argument you can bring forward really "No..You!"

That is certainly pathetic.

>Yes, faggot, from different points of view
>X, Y, Z are people

Are you literally retarded? Do you suffer from mental issues?

I specific t w o t i m e s that I am talking about a singular person. One. Single. Person. That can perceive The. Same. Thing. As both beautiful and ugly.

Do you understand now? Is this still too much for you?

>Does it make X both ugly and beautiful? Nope, it only proves that beauty is not absolute.

I completely agree on this, infact that is one of the points I made. You missed it because of your poor reading comprehension.

>You can't say 'Well, I think X is uglytiful!

Taste can never be absolute. All I can say is: "X is beautiful and ugly to me (!)"

I specified*

an oxy moron?

fuck grimes

she is not ugly, she's cute
what's wrong with you ?

awesome

that would just describe the word you CUNT

life

dreamy
absurd

I find that describing a thing that holds two contradictory qualities is often impossible to do in one or two adjectival words, and this is precisely the proof of the negative structure of language. What is needed instead, in a case like this, would be a series of strenuous, dialectical sentences that seem to talk out of both sides of their mouths, strings of clauses that, one after the other, negate and upset the image painted by the one before.

Hope this helps.

tsundere

Grimes is a modern Mozart.

You know she produces all her own music? In this day and age? And her songs have incredible depth, it's amazing. I fucking love her.

Scoff and laugh, but in 200 years, she'll be remembered as a cultural figurehead.

incredible

Is that Poppy?

What would Zizek think of Grimes?

Bittersweet

You're uglier than Grimes

Is this the birth of FGTOW?

Androgynous.

This isn't Facebook.

Who the fuck uses Facebook anymore lmao

Meretricious is close to what you're looking for.

>You are all wrong, by the way.
Legit I could have taken this post into legitimate regard if you didn't say this.
Everything you said would have worked out just as good, hell, better, if you had decided not to start off so childishly.

Epic

Humanity

Sum total of this thread: Yes, it is entirely possible, even common, for things to be perceived as simultaneously beautiful and ugly by the same observer. No, there is no exact word to describe this experience.
