Let's talk about plays. What are your favorites and why?

Antigone because best girl

The Iceman Cometh

alcoholic pessimism just appeals to me oddly enough

Oedipus Rex. It's by far the most dramatically satisfying thing I've read.

Hamlet, because I'm just as much as a bitch he is.

Huis Clos, by Sartre (No exit is the translated title I believe)

Read it as a teenager a long time ago, made quite an impression on me

Streetcar because Williams was GOAT.

Go home, Aristotle.

This.

Also Leonce & Lena by Geord Büchner

>Implying Hamlet is a bitch

You can't really compare his apprehensions with killing his stepfather to your apprehensions with talking to qt3.14s user.

999/1000 times when people think they're like Hamlet, they're like J. Alfred Prufrock.

doctor

Macbeth
A Doll's House
Shōjo Kakumei Utena

Othello

Yeah, Hamlet was torn up with serious angst and all, but he was still passionate and got shit done. On another note, I think that the ghost from Hamlet really was the devil like Hamlet worried. Hamlet's actions, as prompted by the ghost, caused the utter destruction of the court of Denmark. So either it was Satan, or Hamlet Sr. decided to leave the country in shambles.

When I was young and just a bad little kid
My momma noticed funny things I did
Like shootin' puppies with a B B gun

I'd poison guppies, and when I was done
I'd find a pussy cat and bash its head
That's when my momma said

(What did she say?)
She said "My boy, I think someday
You'll find a way

to make your natural tendencies pay"

YOULL BE A DEEEENTIST
(Be a dentist)
You have a talent for causing things pain
(Pain)
Son, be a dentist
(Son, be a dentist)
People will pay you to be inhumane
(Inhumane)

Your temperament's wrong for the priesthood
And teaching would suit you still less
Son, be a dentist you'll be a success

you ever read Long Day's Journey into Night?

it's the same guy, but Long Day's Journey is pretty much seen as his master work. also filled with alcoholic pessimism, albeit slightly less suicidal

The Tempest, Godot, The Dog Beneath the Skin. My holy three

King Lear, there's a small monologue in there which always stuck with me, helps me through the tough times

I like Chekhov

i like julius caesar

My favourite play that I've read is Medea by Euripides, while the favourite that I've seen is Cowboys (Saša Anočić) or August: Osage County (Tracy Letts, directed by Slađana Kilibarda).

I like plays but the theater is a painful experience, so I mainly read them. My favorites are Racine and Molière, because they are French.
