What are the alternatives? Being poor? or rich? I mean being rich is nice but requires a lot of work and/or some very good luck.
This is how I see it. I think many people are homeless by choice because they would rather that than wagecuck themselves into debt. I am currently a wagecuck, but my intention is to get rent free by 2028. I will do this by living as cheap as possible, and spending very little. I'm an IT contractor so this is very doable if I aim for properties under 70k.
I work with lots of "middle class" people. Though really, where I am there is no middle class. Just people whose parents managed to buy a house in favorable conditions. The real rich people, those who are independantly wealthy I would class as upper-class or upper middle class? Those guys dont really have to worry about money too much.
The people I work with are those who are trying to become middle class. These wannabes do shit like visit hipster theatre productions, go on expensive skiing trips and wear brown brogues just to appear middle class/upper-middle class. They do very little for enjoyment and its all about increasing their status over their peers. As such, most of their lives is spent making snide remarks about how X person bought a house in the wrong area or bought the wrong car because the leather seats weren't responsibly farmed.
