Why do my ears keep getting clogged up with wax...

why do my ears keep getting clogged up with wax? every 3 fuckin months I have to get them cleaned and 1 month after it starts dripping out nasty ass thick brown wax. why, how do i stop this.

P.S. I'm a musician so I spend a good deal with in-ear monitors, could this be a cause, if so, nothing I can do about it I guess.

>I'm a musician so I spend a good deal with in-ear monitors, could this be a cause
That's absolutely the cause

>how do I stop this
Stop wearing IEMs. If you're not willing to do that, then just get used to getting your ears cleaned out regularly.

I thought so, my doctor said that def isn't the cause but I don't trust him, he tried to scam me once with an allergy test and he doesn't even know what note 440Hz. Anyway thanks for your help man, at least now I know the cause, passion takes sacrifices I guess.

mate... just use your finger to clean your ears in the shower. or use a q-tip (CAREFULLY) to clean in your ear every week or so.

how can you not clean that shit to the point where it starts coming out? it's like not wiping your ass.

Sucessful producer reporting in.
In ear monitors are a meme. Buy some real cans and simultaneously save face and your ears.

dude, it builds up from the inside and it just keeps pushing outward, even if I clean it it starts pouring out an hour later.

too used to them desu

Doctors are specialist and only know a a narrow set of things.

Not saying medican is a sham or anything but just that we put doctors in high regard alot of the time.

Clean them yourself. I have done it since I was a kid. amazon.co.uk/d/Ear-Irritation-Inflammation-Remedies/Acu-Life-400595-AcuLife-Wax-Removal-Syringe/B000SOJXGA

>an hour later

well that's a hell of a lot different than a month, buddy. if it's that bad you probably have a disease. actually not probably, there is definitely something fucking wrong with you. some fucking ninja turtles shit right there.

>mate... just use your finger to clean your ears in the shower. or use a q-tip (CAREFULLY)
ABSOLUTELY do not do this. I temporarily lost my hearing multiple times to impacted earwax because i did this. And i was continually reprimanded by my doctor because it could have caused some permanent hearing loss if i had continued to do it. Nothing should go in your ear canal, finger, q-tip no matter how careful you think you can be.

Doctor recommended method is to rinse out your ears with a hydrogen peroxide/ water solution 50/50. Let it sit in each ear for a good 4 minutes. Then over a sink with your ear facing down squirt warm water 4-5 times using a bulb syringe. Make sure the tip doesnt go in your ear so the wax can fall out.

Repeat daily for a max of 3 days give it a week and then try it again (assuming there are no results). Once clean you'll only need to maintenance maybe once every two weeks.

Also they have kits that come with a bulb syringe and a small bottle of a hydrogen peroxide solution (but it is too small imo just get a big bottle of just hydrogen peroxide as it is cheap)

>P.S. I'm a musician so I spend a good deal with in-ear monitors, could this be a cause, if so, nothing I can do about it I guess.

Yeah could the main source of the problem. Over ears will be better but not perfect either.

Good shit

P.S. NEVER EVER try to suck earwax out with either a bulb syringe or the syringe above. This can very easily and quickly cause a ruptured ear drum.

I've never had any issues with impaced earwax or eardrums man

and using a q-tip I never push it in really, more of just around the outside edge. after all, the wax produced moves outward, so cleaning at the outher edge gets rid of wax that would come out.

I meant an hour after I clean them.

thanks for the advice brodie

my doc said that I have narrow ear canals and combined with my allergy to pollen or whatever the ear doesn't get pushed outwards, that "mechanism" is broken. I have a couple of friends who have this as well, I get my ears cleaned up with a couple of my friends so I know I'm not alone in this

Wait... people don't use a q-tip every time they shower? What the fuck is wrong with you?

I used to but after being advised against it by everyone I know including my doctor I stopped

How odd I was just noticing my ear is super fucking waxy today, like 5 seconds before finding this thread.

>Doctor recommended method is to rinse out your ears with a hydrogen peroxide/ water solution 50/50. Let it sit in each ear for a good 4 minutes
how the fuck do you keep the solution in your ear for 4 minutes

You use them? Are you retarded? There's a fucking warning on the box.
Get a bulb syringe. The thing that looks like an enema injector. During a shower use the syringe to squirt warm water into your ear a couple of times. Do this once a week or whenever you have trouble hearing.

lay your head on a pillow and chill for four minutes, then repeat for the other ear
jesus, and I thought Veeky Forums had critical thinking skills

nice digits

i don't want to get hydrogen peroxide all over my pillows. also idk how to do this by myself.

maybe if i had a gf she could do it for me.

or just use warm water

>he doesn't even know what note 440Hz
Why would a medical doctor know this if he wasn't also a musician?

Not a meme for a stage musician that doesn't want to have serious hearing damage over time. I don't know of any over-ear headphones that offer -45dB isolation across the midrange and -10 or more in the lower frequencies like some IEMs do.

>I don't trust him, he tried to scam me once with an allergy test
Go to a different doctor if you don't trust him.

>even if I clean it it starts pouring out an hour later.
If you're not wildly exaggerating, it sounds like you have an actual disease beyond "my headphones make my ears drip." You should really go to an Otolaryngologist that may actually know what it is or how to find out instead of Anonymous internet experts.

>q-tip shits

Use a bobby pin like a man till your face does pic related

I have had to have my ears emptied due to wax buildup before; my doctor said there's a genetic component and some people just produce a lot of earwax.

Either way, it shouldn't be a big deal. I went to my doc the first time because it was a hearing issue, but if you know it's earwax buildup you can just go to any minute clinic at your local CVS or whatever and they'll do it in ten minutes for about $15. Just treat it like a haircut. It's one more thing you need to do every so often in your life.

You can thin the wax out to help it flow. Olive oil in a dropper, some pharmacies sell it ready to go, or make your own out of an eye dropper and evoo. A drop or two and hold it in for four minutes every day.

Use a towel or something you dumb fuck.

If he specializes in ears, then he should be familiar with the frequency range of the human ear

you dumbass

A doctor isn't a biologist. He doesn't need to understand how a human body works. He only needs to have memorized which symptoms require which treatments.

You obviously don'y know any doctors or have never asked them any questions

I use a small spoon with a round edge on the side opposite of the scooper, work pretty well.
I also eat the wax, delicious. Acquired taste due to the bitterness, but I recommend it.

As a med student I can confirm that my studies are just rote memorization. The schedule is too fast to acquire any deeper understanding.

The understanding of physiology and pharmacology develops later during one's career. The more you have to deal with a certain health problem, the more knowledge you acquire as a side-product.

Fair enough, my Dad's been a radiologist for 25 years so I suppose he probably knows more now from experience than any other source

had issues with my ears for years

would get completely blocked at least twice a year, infected at least once every year

only thing that has worked is I wash my ears by tilting my head under the shower and letting warm water flush them out

protip: your ears create earwax when the hairs and skin inside your ear is disturbed, if you stop putting shit in your ear they will stop building up with wax

>I also eat the wax, delicious. Acquired taste due to the bitterness, but I recommend it.

I do this too desu

I have the same issue and I can confirm it's probably because of the earphones. I wear earphones at work and then home. It's disgusting. Never ever insert anything into your ear, use syringe etc to wash the wax. I can hear about 50% of my full capacity. I hate this shit.

You realize that Q-tips are potentially more unhealthy due to the fact it pushes the bacteria farther in? This leads to a brain full of shit with lots of shitposting

>If he specializes in ears, then he should be familiar with the frequency range of the human ear
Read it again.

>he doesn't even know what note 440Hz
Why would a doctor be expected to be familiar with musical notation? Where did OP specify he went to a doctor that specialized in ears? Did you even think about what you wrote?

OP here, he is the ear doctor, his expression was priceless because he did the ringing test in my ear and was like "heh, do you know what frequency this is?" I was like, "440Hz, do you know what note that is?" and his response was "heh, 20 bucks friend"

Im from the UK and i have this too, i just put in a couple of drops of olive oil into them every couple of weeks/once a month and thats stopped it, thats what the doctors said to do.
