Upbeat Japanese literature

I enjoy the otherness and introspective nature of Japanese literature but all too often it's melancholic or depressing to read. That's fine, but sometimes I want to read something a bit less moody. Surely there's something out there?

i can't fucking find the appeal to these girls

Nor can their men.

anything by nishio isshin is very nice
He's a Veeky Forums type who does anime and a few manga, his stories all are very positive in nature.

Senpai don't lie to him.

Why do Japanese women have such poor teeth? Or is it just a porn thing?

Lala Pipo by Hideo Okuda.

i didn't notice it before, i think it's just the OP pic specimen that has problems

Because they're not vain like Americans and don't slap braces on every kid with a goofy tooth.

Give up and watch Terrace House.

Is the tale of gengi Veeky Forums?

What about this?

Orthodontology is pretty great desu

But they are vain, they think snaggle-teeth are cute.

those are exceptionally bad teeth for a jap but if you watch closely in the jav they all have terrible teeth

I am a Cat

>judging gooks by their porn actresses
lmao

They find it cute.

It's called "yaeba", having wonky teeth is considered attractive in Japan, they get it done on purpose sometimes.

Tanpopo
It's a movie tho

Bumping thread for more suggestions.
All my Jap Lit is pretty negative (Ryu Murakami, Koji Suzuki, Hitomi Kanehara, Osamu Dazai).

I heard good things about Disappearance Diary by Hideo Azuma. Any more suggestions?

Try Yasutaka Tsutsui.
Have you read Run, Melos! by Dazai? i believe that it fits your description, also his Schoolgirl wasn't that negative (or at least comparing to his other novels).
If you want more, i don't know maybe try light novels but little things of worth there
