>All my philosophy professors think Hegel is Crap

Why is this?

Because he is, obviously.

Analytics think everything is crap if it isn't outdated Logical Atomism 4 Kids

Read some Schopenhauer, fagit. What are you, zizek?

Incorrect. He explains the Universe in its totality perfectly.

Read him yourself, OP. Ignore the plebs.

Country? America?

If you are in a University where "professors" think that you should run away.

because he spoke about war in a fatalist way

there is no such thing as "anayltic" vs. "continental" divide

Only analytics say this.

ok then what is the difference then idiot?

and don't say well continental takes place on the european continent..or some bogus answer

what are the major differences

A greater concern for the historical dimension of philosophy, especially prominent after French Hegelianism in the wake of Jean-Hippolyte and Alexander Kojeve, and of course massively influential through the Baden neo-Kantian tradition and hermeneutic and Heideggerian phenomenology in Germany. Read Collingwood's autobiography for a good demonstration of the milieu that produced Russell et al., who even managed to deform the Marburg neo-Kantians' significant neo-Hegelian aspects (e.g., Cassirer) by focusing only on a thinned-out, Whiggish teleological progression to Vienna positivism.

See the misreading of Wittgenstein for an entire century by analytics, ignoring his total BTFO of logicism and resulting in his recent fall into decrepitude along with the rest of analytic Weltanschauung ("what's a Weltanschauung, man??? it's either true or it isn't, LOL!").

>Americans

If Hegel had written the whole of his logic and then said, in the preface or some other place, that it was merely an experiment in thought in which he had even begged the question in many places, then he would certainly have been the greatest thinker who had ever lived. As it is, he is merely comic.

—Soren Kierkegaard, (Journals, 1844[6])

>he is merely comic
Well, I guess then.

Obviously American philosophy professors think Hegel is crap. I'm sure there's some English professors at your school who know something about him.

Shots fired.

We have to go back to Hegel.

Of what I have heard, there have been criticisms that his writing is overly confusing and unclear.

And perhaps they do not like his belief that there was a logical, potentially unavoidable progressive path of history, because the thought may take away a bit from individualism. He pretty much thought eventually in the future humans will have created a perfect civilization, that history is the progression of relative utopia towards utopiaest

I suppose this is how it is said this influenced or related to marx/ists, suggesting eventually socialism/communism will be 'unavoidable' due to technological progression

Current philosophy is a scam. Nearly Nobody is intersted in truth anymore. What counts are getting a job, spreading "democracy" (because inherently good in all cases, no debate about this), doing social justice (related to getting a job), ranting about the opponent analytic/continental philosohy (it dosen't matter, no one can really classify, what excatly would make them different after the project of creating a ideal language of logic was given up) and mocking of ancient philosophers (because you know they where all bigots and unenlightend).

Continental philisophy has a supposedly pragmatic approach, they focus on "doing".

Also Hegel is the cause of postmodern philosophy, thats why people hate him

Funny how most people who criticize Hegel's clarity and style are reading translations. Heidegger and Nietzsche also. It's almost like German philosophy makes more sense in German.

>Weltanschauung
your saying alot of buzzwords...simplify it please

Most philosophers are conformists, not thinkers, trend-followers who will parrot anyone in their world who sounds authoritative enough. Hegel is no longer trendy. Worse, he is challenging. The tendency now is to blame him for their own inability to think and read outside their limited domain.

>t's almost like German philosophy makes more sense in German.

yeah i always figured "thing-in-itself" sounds a lot better in german, that's the most tedious part of hegel the shit like "the thing-in-itself in become itself negates itself as a thing outside itself which realizes the thing and itself" until you're like dude what the fuck ever man who gives a shit in itself

>All my philosophy professors think Hegel is Crap

That is what history is careering toward so it must be true

>All my philosophy professors think Hegel is Crap
>Why is this?
BECAUSE IT IS TRUE.

>be me
>talking about Kant's transcendental unity of apperception with professor
>say I'm starting to like Hegel
>"Oh no! We have to save you then... hehe, just kidding."

>Implying quantum physics doesn't prove either Hegel's or Plato's metaphysics are right.

That is literally the opposite of my faculty, which is full of Hegelians

I think the term is "Ding-an-sich" in German, which is better translated as "Thing-as-such" than "Thing-in-itself".

Hegel sounds like 'kegel'
and kegels are what people do when they have erectile dysfunction. Case closed.

>implying it does
