Peterson is not literature (or so the mods think)

peterson new god flow bask key at picasso type shit if you havent watched his uni course lectures titled maps of meaning you aint woke desu, u like my granny on thanksgiving about 730pm after 2 helpings of turkey t.b.h.

Hes staunch af

... what?

>It's another episode of the Right-Wing latch onto to their only moderately intelligent thinkers as to seem reputable to the public

Sad!

>its another episode of anyone who isnt far left is far right

He's a lefty. Used to work with the NDP and whatnot.

4 u it's another episode of pic related

and also dis

He seems well-read. Watched a 2,5 hour interview of him and he covered everything from Foucault, Jung, neuroscience, Darwinian thought, deh Greeks, evolutionary biology, Eliade.

It's hard to pin him down in a political field. He's pic related imo.

Do your self a favor and watch the first half of his Personality course

In the Academic world they basically are

He's a Jungian, thats enough to know he's thrash pseudo-intellectual

Leftist here. If I could get a girlfriend I'd let you all fuck her!

The guy's highly woke; so woke, in fact, that if you've yet to watch his lectures, "Maps of Meaning", then you ~can't~ claim to be woke; at least, no more woke than user's granny on thanksgiving afternoon (she often likes to snooze after her second helping of turkey).

What's this guy's name?

he seems smart

youtube.com/watch?v=MCOw0eJ84d8

Jordan Peterson

>Peterson is not literature

Wth are you talking about? He's an author as well as a college professor. How is he not Veeky Forums?

...

Go to bed Zizek

I'm sad he'll probably have left UofT before I've had the chance to take one of his classes

He's got enough clout to easily get a job at other universities, he also has a huge selection of his college lectures online.

Based

He makes a great martyr. He did pretty well in that recent debate too. If the anti-PC crowd is smart, then they will bank on this guy.

youtube.com/watch?v=68NHUV5me7Q

Just read a breddy gudd article about him: medium.com/@metamurphie/god-sent-jordan-peterson-to-the-alt-right-f113fb55b1ae#.m2g5xhwrl

Seems like a cool enough guy -- just kind of into himself a little too much.

saying jordan peterson is alt right is retarded enough but then it goes on to list ricky vaughn and sargon of akkad in the same sentence as if its the most normal thing in the world, can't begin to imagine what it's like to be that out of touch with reality where a former goon turned mpc nazi is the same as a youtube atheist

Didn't get the impression that the article was arguing Jordan considers himself part of the alt right -- seemed like it was just trying to explain why the alt right likes him so much

reading comp senpai, please

I'm about 80% of the way through Maps of Meaning.

The writing is terrible, but the ideas within are golden. He explains religion far better than religious people and fedora tippers alike.

all the 'public intellectuals' and love of 'public intellectuals' in Canada is fucking trash. Him included.

we should not forget we are lumberjacks, and miners, and it's in our blood for good.

he's been quite outspoken about the (radical) alt-right, especially the national-socialist side of it youtu.be/Bpim_n0r0z0?t=32m50s

> "They're so anti-semitic that it's painful to read."

Nazis BTFO

>The writing is terrible

If by terrible you mean unnecessarily convoluted and written like an instruction-manual then yeah I'd agree. Only read/seen small snip bits of it though but the style was pretty apparent.

How the fuck did you figure that out?

So if you're a well respected college professor and author and you suddenly have videos of your lectures on youtube and a few anons on Veeky Forums start talking about you and some idiotic controversial bureaucracy you're involved in you suddenly become a "public intellectual"?

a lot of profs have stuff up online, what im talking about is a cultural thing, look it up before you decide it is okay

It's quite funny to me that Peterson blew up in the media so quickly after I stumbled onto his 'Maps of Meaning' and 'Personality' lecture series on YouTube. I kind of wish he hadn't. I didn't know anything at all about the mans personal opinions but now that I do I cant help but project "alt-rightish" motivations onto whatever he says. Silly, I know. I think he's probably beyond that level of discussion.

Nonetheless, and as incredibly lame of me it is to say, his measured yet impassioned take on things impressed me and even helped me climb out of a pretty deep hole. I'm not a well read man and I struggle to snuff out a cheap rhetorician but he has my praise. For what it counts.

he denounced the alt right in interview with gad saad
Peterson doesn't like nazis

>a cultural thing

What are you talking about? I've watched a lot of his lectures and some of his public speaking about his stances and he seems like perfectly rational, decent intelligent person.

How has not wishing to accept authoritarianism become seen as crazy?

Unsurprising. It was a phantom gripe really.

Alt-Right or right-wing or whatever you name it likes basicly everyone who stands up against the anti-free speech bullies and the PC-SJW-lynchmob, but that doesn't mean the person standing up is an Alt-Right himself or herself. They can be, you know, just normal, like people with a little common sense.

>It's another episode of the leftists paint everyone as Right-Wing if they act like normal people with common sense.

Sad!

His lectures on depth psychology are the best thing I've seen all year.

If you actually take his arguments and think them through quietly and calmly, a lot of it is hot air... a lot. He is inspiring though in that he appears to be utterly lost and devoid of joy/mental stability and yet he still tries heroically

Please stop posting this tedious social justice warrior here. We're above this shit.

What the fuck are you talking about? He is literally the opponent of SJWs

Oh I see, you don't know a thing about the guy

Trans stuff? Sounds like a fag.

Greatest academic currently alive on the American continent.

This book is pretty much a must read.
>Not being an authoritarian leftist means you are a right-winger
Pls go back to dumblr or whatever echo chamber you were spawned in.

The responses to this post really just signal how correct it is

He's /ourguy/

Who is this man

please provide 100 words defending your first sentence.

Jordan B Peterson

He's a professor at the University of Toronto and a clinical psychologist. He first became known around here because his class lectures were uploaded to youtube.

He's also gained more notoriety on here lately for his tangle with the University regarding his public objection, and rejection to follow Bill C-16 with its plethora officially recognized trans-gender pronouns. Peterson refuses to call people by any of these pronouns because he thinks they are clumsy, first of all, and that they are limiting free speech in a way that leads down the road to far-left totalitarianism. He says that it's one thing to come up with a list of things that you Can't say to someone for reasons of limiting hate-speech, which Peterson is fine with, but it is an entirely different thing to make a law that states what you Have to say.

Essentially he is our guy.

He's the hero we need

>literally no idea who this is
>get linked a Joe brogan livestream where he's being interviewed
>he's shittimg on Derridas contrived babby Marxism
>top kek

Anyone who calls a faggot a faggot is a freind of mine

>It's quite funny to me that Peterson blew up in the media so quickly after I stumbled onto his 'Maps of Meaning' and 'Personality' lecture series on YouTube.
same here. i found out about him earlier this year in the Veeky Forums archive (from a post from around 2012), and now he's everywhere. spooky.

Wait, someone was talking about Derrida on Joe Rogan's podcast? What is the world coming to? First a meme president and now this. This is no longer podracing.

Damn, the two most POWERFUL minds of our time share thoughts for alost 3 hours.
youtube.com/watch?v=04wyGK6k6HE

he should be leading canada instead of le weed man

Lmao Joe was so fucking lost.

>and now he's everywhere. spooky.
That's just how it works nowadays. When that ball starts running it goes quickly. 0-100 real quick.

Whatup freak-bitches, today we're going to discuss how social-constructivism, while well meaning, ultimately erodes its own legitimacy by becoming too divorced from other discourses that it itself one claimed defined reality.

Hey at least he's trying, he could chill out in his mansion near the pool with a drink instead he's making a podcast with pretty interesting guests.
He also asks decent questions, his podcast has a good flow to it

Relax, I love Rogan.

Relax, I was not mad in my response.

I like Rogan. He's got a lot of problems and he's an idiot in certain ways but he's an outgoing positive guy who tries to give a shit about things and make other people give a shit about them.

I honestly find him unlistenable 90% of the time because he's such a dolt and he talks over his guests sometimes but goddamnit he's trying. He's like a big kid.

this, me too

A big kid but still above a big chunk of people in general just because he tries

So are all the Jungian connections he draws between religion/ mythology and psychology and sociology just complete BS or are they accurate?

Also, what do you guys think of his beliefs about nihilism? (That nihilism is pathalogical and undermines your ability to live)

it was from a post in 2012 though. complete coincidence that i discovered him the same year he blew up. i was just looking for writers like jung.

He says we should work and struggle to LIKE being and life but Stirner unironically ruined these kinds of things for me. It all just seems like spooks.

>mods
this thread has now been up for over sixty hours

I posted like 5 threads before this and they were all deleted, surprised the commie mods let this one though.

Wanted to pick it up from my university's library but it is checked out.

Just watched this lecture, some pretty interesting stuff. Haven't got around to watching his recent debate yet, will be interesting to see how well he argues.
youtube.com/watch?v=MLp7vWB0TeY

"Dr Peterson says he does not object to trans people or to choosing which traditional pronoun they prefer.
"If the standard transsexual person wants to be regarded as he or she, my sense is I'll address you according to the part that you appear to be playing," he said.
But he argues terms like "gender identity' and "gender expression" are too broad, are the "propositions of radical social constructionists," and are being used to bully opponents into submission."

he's not anti-trans, he just thinks that libs are falling for idpol buzzword bullshit (they are)

That's not what he's saying. He's saying you need a framework in order to make things meaningful. This isn't what Stirner was opposing, in fact it's part of his Creative Nothing; what Stirner says is that you have a choice in your framework and that the framework ultimately serves your cause, so saying it isn't makes no sense and is there only for you to control others. Peterson gives the framework he thinks is best but he's not against you having different opinions; in fact, any time he talks about shamans or artists he points out to how they're people who defy these frameworks, but that that has a level of danger to it and shouldn't be expected of everyone in society.

>i wish he was my dad
iktf

>i was just looking for writers like jung
Did you find any good ones? I'm reading Jung now and I would appreciate suggestions. Also any particular Jung works.

>that plug of his self-help program he sells at the very end
my sides

i don't think it's all just an act to sell it or anything but i found it funny

I'd love to see a debate between Peterson and Zizek.

So many lulz to be had as Peterson dismantles Zizek's anus piece by piece

...

Where in the post you replied to does it mention trans people?

And did you even read the OP?

Zizek would just talk past him or drive up the sniffing to disorient him.

He's just pedantically attempting to make respectable New Age ideology.

Approaching contemporary nihilism as an individual issue of pathology is all wrong. Nihilism hasn't just become so prevalent because of individuals irrationally rejecting traditional belief systems or their impotence to craft individual narratives for their own lives but the actual real decomposition of any collective social basis. Capitalism and liberalism are nihilistic and make nihilists, you can't just teach and expect people to act differently within within a gigantic nihilistic institution, you can only medicate if you really want to get different activity.

>Zizek begins to intensify the shirt and nose grabbing as his bullshit like a soft phallus fails to penetrate any of the arguments Peterson makes
>In the middle of the debate he starts crying

>Zizek has to execute his special attack, he stops sniffing for the entire debate then releases it all in one big snot filled projectile.

>mfw listening to this

What do you think of this self authoring program?

youtube.com/watch?v=RoGdMpdZXzs

I got the future self authoring thing when it was free but I'm in so much shit even this might not get me out.

>anyone who isn't a marxist is part of the right

I'm a classical liberal you fucking regressive. :)

>implying that isn't right wing
Why do you love unemployment?

I think it's funny that there's a related video called "Nietzche in 12 minutes". Which do you think is more informative?

Says a lot about the type of person that watches his stuff

The 'i like your penis but i'm busy with these other five ones right now'-facial expression aka '''''feminism'''''.

Did the first half of the future one.
I became a patreon so I'm getting the other ones too, the first one did have a positive effect, looking long term was something I didn't do often but I'm more aware of it now.

He points out a lot of dangers that modern sjws and liberals have with their mindset, which is basically:

>b-but I have good intentions! So It's ok for me to use fascist means! Plus I'm right, so I'm allowed to do whatever I want to people who are wrong!

It's another episode of That's Not True, bought to you by Stupid Guy

I think if you don't Stand With Jordan Peterson then you are lame
