The Fountainhead

"I am in love with [my husband] selfishly...I take selfish pleasure in it"
"If any civilization is to survive, it is the morality of altruism that men have to reject.”
β€œTo be free, a man must be free of his brothers.”
These quotes combined with Rand's atrocious writing style (please give me more bland and meaningless description) leads me to question why The Fountainhead, Objectivism, and Ayn Rand in general are well known and praised so much. She just seems to be an Anarcho-capitalist's wet dream and nothing more as her philosophy could not be successfully implemented into any modern day society. Why is she important?

She's not.
Now hold the L for getting triggered by a woman with no knowledge of history philosophy or lit.

...

Do anarcho-capitalists really believe that giving private unrestrained corporations control over every field of society and fuck nature and for profits is any better than what the corrupted governments of the world are doing now?

You've just put more thought into anarcho-capitalism than 99% of its adherents have.

No we just don't like being told what to do.
It's annoying.

I got half way through The Fountainhead and had to stop. The whole time I couldn't help but feel like Roark was a turbo autist far beyond the worst that even Veeky Forums can offer

The dialogue is shit, the descriptions are shit, and nearly every character is an entirely unbelievable mouth piece blatantly being used to make some "important point"

Why the fuck do people like this book?

>praised so much

lol do you even know what are you talking about

pretty much.

anarcho capitalism is just taking the whole libertarian/tea party thing to its logical extreme

i don't think anyone really believes in anarcho-capitalism as a realistic solution to the world's economic/poltical ails. it's more of a symbolic ideology of protest through self hyperbolization. they know it ruffles feathers, it's edgy as hell and that's the point. it's screaming "LOOK AT ME, LOOK SOMEBODY OPPOSES YOU"

not to conflate the man with ancap ideology, i'd say it's the same kind of thinking that won trump the election the moderate right lashing out

>tfw commies will never understand

gets me kind of hard tbqh

There's only one thing you can do with a girl like this. Walk naked into the sea together as the sun sets. Make love once... Then die.

>why The Fountainhead, Objectivism, and Ayn Rand in general are well known and praised so much
>Why is she important?

You have to keep in mind she lived during the Cold War, when Americans need propaganda, and this author fits perfectly.

We are talking about a country who believes in creationism, a country who "insults" people calling them socialists, and so on.

There is no philosophy in the anglo world. There is neither philosophical nor literary tradition in America. Americans are really retarded people (no offense, just saying the truth). So this woman, with her crap about selfishness, I'm special and better than the rest, etc. had her place in that context, and that's why she is so popular and considered in America. She's no one outside that country.

The more ideologically sophisticated tend to oppose limited liability corporations which would practically make any form of substantial large scale organization impossible.

Well you would be forced to comply to many more standards, any form of positive protections on your speech/actions would be abolished when all land/services you step on can dictate their own laws and imprison you for violating them.

OP here. Not triggered, just genuinely curious. I have to read this book for a class, and I'm trying to figure out exactly why. It's clearly not because of her writing quality, so it must be something else.

Yeah, she was praised quite a bit.

Watched the film now and was disappointed that it wasn't an exploitation film like your pic made me think and there was barely enough of that girl. It was nice though.

Kek

Just getting by with good
Looks. Only reason she got published

>Good looks
Damn, mama Ayn is one steamy Babushka.

She also saw the rise of the Soviet union before getting the fuck out of the USSR. She saw what communism did to her country, and went full retard in the other direction. I read through Atlas Shrugged and saw a lot of parallels to what's happening to the US right now.

>what's happening to the US right now.

*been happening

>"If any civilization is to survive, it is the morality of altruism that men have to reject.”

I don't know if this is true or not.

It is not.
