The passive observer

Any good books to read that talk about becoming a passive observer? I am too confused on the world, on life. I want to back away, detach myself from my bias, from my desires, and observe the universe as it is. Please rec me books.

The protagonist in T. Singer by Dag Solstad is a passive observer of his own life. The book isn't illuminating in any way, i.e. you don't get any profound insight from it. But it's a good read of a man who nullifies his own existence, without killing himself, in a passionless manner. It gets pretty bleak towards the end.
