If the universe is defined as everything there is, how can there be a multiverse?

If the universe is defined as everything there is, how can there be a multiverse?

Using shitty logic like that, there can be an infinite number of multiverses as well.

>if

Found the pholosotard

he's literally giving you the answer you imbecile. it's IF. obviously if you define it to be everything then it's fucking everything you gigantic fucking doofus

fuck off with your retarded pop-phil questions, underage fucking retard

Every thread that starts with if is retarded.

That's why you say observable universe instead of just universe.

Semantics

Observable is subjective to the size of your telescope so it's not a meaningful term.

Wrong.

Observable is the maximum you can see using any hypothetical telescope that hasn't yet been invented.

It isn't "if" the definition of the universe is literally everything. The question should drop the word "if" there's no need for it:

>Since the universe is defined as everything there is, how can there be a multiverse?

>how can there be a multiverse?

There isn't. There maybe larger constructs that define void area and non-void areas. Like Galaxy Filaments, but on a much larger scale. A scale so large that only a portion of 1 encompasses the entire known universe.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connected_space
A universe is a connected space. Multiverse is an unconnected space.

>implying string theory is even right

Isn't believe in multiverses just the belief of an additional dimension of space?

In a 2 dimensional x/y universe, the multiverses could just be defined as additional x/y universes now stacked in the z axis. If the z axis is space, as are the x and y, then we simply now have a 3 (spacial) dimension universe.

In a 3 dimensional universe we just define another dimension and aren't those all individual 3d universes, aka we have a multiverse now?

Regardless, multiverses are boring ass shit and pointless to talk about
sage

So, what is between them?

Neurotoxins!

your right, there can be more. The accepted hierarchy of -verses is

>Universe:
A particular individual space-time organization with a specified number of dimensions of space and time and definite and specific laws of physics.

>Multiverse:
The part of infinity that directly joins a given universe with all possible configurations of that universe.

>Metaverse:
In string theory houses the branes that each universe is attached to.

>Xenoverse:
The unknown alien elements that are beyond and part of the metaverse and multiverse structure. Compared to a patchwork quilt hanging on a line to dry in space that is multivariate inside the Omniverse. While Omniverse is said to be the outside ring of all that is known, the xenoverse is the inside the hypermacrocosm that is unknown beyond the metaverse - the unknown sets of laws that govern how branes behave to create metaverses, the laws of which govern the creation of multiverses.

>Hyperverse:
Multiple xenoverses and to a relative of and probably a quarter of an omniverse, also, not to be confused with Hyperversus and the off end of the multiverse: Metaverse and Xenoverse.

>Omniverse:
All possible attributes and modes are in play, multiverses are categorized by the attributes/modes active in its child universes. Some or all possible modes of existence are actualized. It's everything that exists, doesn't exist, anything in between, below, above, anything any being within All can imagine with a name, except God.

>The Outside
Is the Beyond Infinite surrounding nothingness outside the Omniverse.

>Allomniverse
The Allomniverse contains all omniverse's. Every Omniverse other than our own is a complete mystery to us, even their very "existence", leaving us to wonder if the Allomniverse is "real".

>The Box
If you can think of something, it's inside the Box. If you can't think of something, it's inside the Box. Anything that is even declared without thought, subconsciously, is in the Box.

Which one has your pills?
Time to take one, won't work unless you take 'em.

>the universe is shaped like an upside down cup

No thanks.

not in the 10min part linked

One way I conceptualize this is via a metaphor that was inspired by Greg Egan's Permutation City.

Basically, the universe is a string of patterns emerging from some set of information, giving rise to our continuum of existence, in the order of which we perceive it.

Imagine the sort of patterns which may emerge from the same information but strung together through a different order of time. Beings in that universe would experience a coherent set of patterns strung together in a linear fashion to their perspective but completely incoherent, and impercievable to us. That is a different universe.

I'm not saying that is literally how it works (it's impossible that I've figured out how it works by sitting here), but i use that to conceptualize the existence of more than one universe.

But that's wrong, retard

What's the best way to describe what's outside of the universe. does the universe look like a container from the outside. What's the shape of this container, if so?

>the set of all sets can not be contained in itself
ayy lmao

>everything there is within it.
