Books Veeky Forums tricked you into reading

...

Ι don't remember reading any praise for this here.

>reading female authors
>ever

Subtle trick. Or not.

Nah that's on you bud

We had to do it for school. Fucking sucked. Nineteen Eighty-Four fuck your Orwell for making your title so fucking long do you know how many times I had to write it in my essays? was immeasurably better.

The Road was worse though. McCarthy really dropped the ball with that one.

Thought Police detected.

The Road was great, you faggot.

I hope you like rats.

It was shit. SHIIIIIIIIIIIIT

I bet you liked Frankenstein.

What did you think of Metropolis?

Although I never actually read either. Or the Handmaid's Tale. Just the bits we covered in class.
Fucking glorious. You mean the film, yes?

for you senpai

How's the hsc treating ya? What was your related for mod c?

A-levels my man. I somehow managed to get an A, probably by dint of literally fucking everything I could have up.

What the fuck are you two talking about?

Mistborn
Tbf I asked for a fantasy recommendation so I deserved it. At least it was the last fantasy book I'll ever read.

High/secondary school.
Christ. Who recommended that? /sffg/? If it consoles you there's some legit Veeky Forums fantasy, and Mistborn definitely isn't it.

Nah this was when I first came to Veeky Forums, long before /sffg/ was a thing. I have gotten much better taste, and I have discovered some of my favourite authors thanks to Veeky Forums. So overall it has been a net gain

You had pretty good taste if you knew Mistborn was shit.

To sate my autism I will recommend The Worm Ouroboros.

The Book of Disquiet. Not that I read much of it.

Cheers, I'm not doubting that there's good fantasy out there, but it's a genre that I used to binge on when I was a pre-teen and for now I really have no desire to go down that road again. I remember some of it fondly though. The Hobbit for instance is a book that I will probably read to my children.

I haven't read the Book of Disquiet but Pessoa's poetry is amazing. You could try it if you ever again feel like having your soul crushed.

boring moralising and pretentious

Tristram goddamn mo'fucking Shandy.

Fight me.

It's like if Veeky Forums sat up and actually wrote something. It's full of literary references to the works Sterne squeed at.

It's glorious.

>pretentious
whaaat?

There are some good female authors out there. I can count them on one hand, but they exist.

>moralising

You didn't read it, did you...

>glorious
Nah. Soon as I saw that Schopenhauer thought it was the greatest novel of all time, I knew Veeky Forums had won.

how the shit is it moralising

it's about a deeply flawed man fucking his life up since the starting page

the fuck is wrong with Frankenstein

this book is one of the GOAT
fuck you

My diary, desu

jk rowling

Boring moralising and pretentious.

But she read Rime of the Ancient Mariner !!!

>Melodrama.
>Sledgehammer-wielding themes.
>Cut-and-paste real-world culture counterparts; no originality whatsoever. (Angland? Seriously, Joe?)

The women on the cover look like santa hats too

>another book hated by Veeky Forums
I'm sensing a theme.

Le meme theme

this is story about cuck?

>b-but it's funny!

'1984' is too long to write?
You hate writing big words in essay assignments with minimum page counts?

>'1984' is too long to write?
No, Nineteen Eighty-Four is. Made worse by the impulse to revert to 1984.
>You hate writing big words in essay assignments with minimum page counts?
It's infuriating. I ended up copying and pasting the damn title whenever I needed to use it, and I needed to use it a lot (In Nineteen Eighty-Four Orwell does... while in A Handmaid's Tale Atwood does...). And the problem with word counts is reducing them, not inflating them.

>>>Fucking reactiontards.

>while in A Handmaid's Tale (from now on HT) Atwood does...

Fixed that for you bud. Wow it's like I'm really in highschool

This.

All "great" female authors are only on par with "decent" male authors. Honestly, the entire gender can be skipped.

This.

Same for non-anglo authors aswell.

Yeah it's almost like I tried that and got bollocked.

to be fair, it is, at times.
The smugness and simplicity of his views on war killed it for me though

Journey to the End of Night. God, you fucking edgelords.

this is a wrothless cemment

It kind of made me nostalgic for the times when people were afraid of Christians.

Virginia Woolf and Iris Murdoch and the Bronte's and...

...

You have to have been in the military to truly enjoy this.

Same with Full Metal Jacket.

it had a kinda neat concept tho
but yeah I found it kinda disappointing too
I still have no idea how Heller managed to pan that shit out to 450 pages

>worthless cemment

Sappho jane austen george eliot hd elizabeth bishop marianne moore louise gluck afra behn etc etc
