Britbong here, I'm going to LA this summer and I'd like some reccomendations for good fast food chains to hit up.

>inb4 for me it's the McChicken

You can get for me's pretty much anywhere on earth 24/7, no need to go to LA for inferior sandwiches of the burger variety.

whatever random taco stands you happen to pass

>Good
>Chain

Pick one.

THE HAT
The most underrated fast food spot in california

>in-n-out

Prepare yourself for ultimate disappointment

how about you use your head you dumbass?
>hurr let me ask an anime image board where i should eat.
you are stupid and i hope you never reproduce.
do people need to remind you to breathe too, dipshit?

so ya in your case id recommend drinking beach and ammonia since you have to ask the internet one of the most basic fundamental questions of "what should i eat?"
kill yourself

Why not get real food instead?

> being this butthurt about a foreigner asking for suggestions on food not native to their country

Consider the alternative to living.

What real food? Tacos?
The only thing California is known for is In n out and Mexican food.

>The only thing California is known for is In n out and Mexican food.

The bait is so weak I just want to reply to see if this is a copy pasta or not

in n out doesn't do medium rare burgers anymore which sucks
still pretty good for the price though

Checked.

Please enlighten me on Californian cuisine

>asking for suggestions on an anime image board
>being this inept

it is you and the brit-retard who should // ur wrists

This.

Fucking this!

I moved out of California after twenty years there, and this is where I went for my last taste of fast food.

Please go ahead I'm waiting.

California is a huge state, it really depends on where you go. I hate the fucking state but judging Cali food just based off LA is the dumbest shit ever. It would be like saying that arizona has nothing but mexican food because it is mostly a desert, even though most of the north is wooded forests with elk, buffalo, and indian food.

>I hate the fucking state
Trade you for rural New York.

not a fucking chance, I am an AZ fag now and fucking love it

Tito's Tacos

What part of la?

yes they do you fucking idiot. try asking for a medium rare burger. aspie

they discontinued it in january 2017

Anytime I visit my friend in california I go there with him.
Double chili burger and a side of wet as fuck fries

>id recommend drinking beach

>visiting LA in the summer

Fucking why? That's like going to Ibiza in July or August for fun.

2hot4me.

eat lots of Mexican food (super burritos)
avoid places like 'big Bob's tacos'
"Henry's Mexican restaurant" or
"hungry hanks fun time burritos"
those places will usually have a drive through and are shit.
DO eat at Mexican hole in the walls with names like
"Santa Maria's taqueria" or
"juan-pedro's resturaunte"
or random 'Mexican super market with delicounter inside'

all of California is basically Mexican and Vietnamese food with stripmall chain resturaunts and fast-food scattered between
and overpriced pizza of course

LA at any time of the year sucks eggs

Finally someone else that thinks LA weather is shit year round

califag here, this user is surprisingly accurate tbqhfam
also go to the hat, shits cash as fuck

For me its the Big cheeseburgerat jack in the box it is wonderful

For me, it's the Triple Triple, Animal Style, Extra Toast, Add Chiles, Fries Well Done, and a Chocolate Vanilla shake.

seconding the hat. you won't regret it... I'm a big fan of the pastrami burger. pastrami fries are dope too

Seriously, OP, why would you fly a third of the way around the planet just to eat shitty food?

Find some decent taco stands, sure, but go to some good places as well.

I just think LA is shit desu.

LA native here. Hole in the wall places for Mexican food are rarely disappointing, big portions and inexpensive. You'll have to venture into Mexican neighborhoods to find them, when you see lots of signs in Spanish, liquor stores, check cashing/payday loan places and generally feel like you crossed the border into Tijuana, you'll know you're there. Tito's Tacos is a pretty famous place but I've never been there. Baja Bud's is a safe choice for good Mexican food if you are too afraid to go to the authentic places. Food trucks are always worth checking out, almost all of them have huge burritos for $5, tacos, and quesadilla with a huge variety of meat. I recommend trying at least one taco with Al Pastor meat, Carnitas, and Lengua (beef tongue).

We have a huge variety of food trucks, BBQ, Japanese food, Mexican food (mostly), burgers, and one called Kogi truck which is fusion Korean/Mexican. I'd highly recommend the kimchi quesadilla and pork belly burrito.

I know you said fast food, but you have to try the Japanese food here. Sushi is huge here, but often pricey. If you drive north into the San Fernando Valley, you can find really good and inexpensive sushi, and some really fantastic all you can eat places. There's a place called Izakaya M on Ventura blvd, which as you can tell, is a Japanese style pub. They have yakitori, sushi, ramen, chicken karaage, tons of different appetizers. Go for happy hour, you can get $10 pitchers of Sapporo. Little Tokyo in downtown has really good ramen spots, cafes with Japanese sweets, shabu shabu hot pot, and Japanese convenience stores where you can eat your favorite weeb snacks if you're into that.

Fast food is pretty limited when you consider all the other options available. I hate LA but I will admit the food here is fucking great.

Anything good near San Mateo? I see strip mall chain restaurants everywhere and nothing as good as The Hat. At least I have my Benihana's..

Adding to the quality burger list go to Shake Shack. It's a little more pricey than the Out but there's a lot more options and I'd go as far to say it's more satisfying. Plus their shakes are GOAT

Hi friend, I'm from LA and I'll recommend some really special places to eat.

One of my favorite places is called Dino's Chicken and Burgers, you want the location on W Pico Blvd or the one in Huntington Park. This place is really unique about the way they make their chicken and fries. The chicken is marinated in a really delicious tangy sauce that they call juice. They also soak the fries in it and it's absolutely incredible. My favorite thing to get is the DUI fries, it's their fries soaked in dino's juice, topped with chili, cheese, carne asada or chicken(I recommend the chicken) and pastrami. I'd also recommend getting a half chicken as well to try the bone-in. Check out the images on yelp for this place, it's amazing and there really is no comparison anywhere.

Next is my favorite Mexican food in all of LA. Living in LA you eat a lot of Mexican food, so holding the top spot really means something. And it's not just my favorite, most people I've introduced it to agree that it is the best as well. On top of that, my aunt is Mexican and she considers it the best as well. It's called Melody's Mexican Kitchen and it's located in Reseda. They have all the mexican staples, but my favorite things to get are the carne asada burrito(dry and substitute avocados with guacamole), machaca burrito(wet), and any of their tacos(carne asada, pollo asada, carnitas, shredded beef). Best part is there is an amazing free salsa bar to top your tacos with and add to your burritos. Definitely get a large side of guacamole as well, it’s a giant serving for around $9, absolutely worth the price. There is only one problem with this place, once I started going, I started refusing to go any other Mexican places because they never can beat Melody’s in either taste or price.

I’m Persian and one of the most popular Persian foods is kabob and when it comes to kabob, one place puts all others to shame. LA has one of the largest Persian communities in the US(google tehrangeles), so there are tons of places to choose from and this one is hands down the best there is. It’s called Kabob by Faraj and it’s located on the corner of Pico and Robertson in Los Angeles. It’s both a restaurant and a glatt kosher meat market. I don’t even keep kosher and it’s still the best kabob I’ve ever had, which is really saying something because 9/10 times the kosher option is worse when it comes to meat. I recommend getting one skewer of kabob barg(that’s tenderloin), one skewer of chicken breast kabob, and one skewer of kabob kubideh(ground beef). I don’t know how Faraj marinates his meat, but dispite my many efforts to replicate his recipe, I’ve failed miserably. I can’t close to how good it tastes and how tender he makes it, it’s really something special. Most Persians like to eat their kabob with basmati rice, but I prefer wrapping each piece in some lavash bread, you can get a whole package of it for a few dollars too. If you also want to try some other traditional Persian food while you’re there, try some gormeh-sabzi with rice and tadig, two of the most popular Persian dishes in our culture. Gormeh-sabzi is a sour/savory beef stew and tadig is sort of a crispy rice. Tadig is especially prized because it’s made by adding some extra oil to the bottom of a pot of rice causing it to fry while the weight of the rice on top of it causes it to compress, so you only get a small bit of tadig from a whole pot of rice. Top the tadig with some Gormeh-sabzi and it’s an amazing combo. You should also check out some salad-olovieh, it’s the Persian version of chicken salad and it’s a pretty unique take on it.

Next up is Kai Ramen on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks. I’m not huge on ramen so I haven’t been to that many places, but this is easily the best ones I’ve been to and most friends and family say it’s near the top of their lists as well. I recommend the spicy beef ramen with a side of extra chicken. The broth is excellent with just the right amount of spice and the chicken is marinated well and flavorful. But what really makes this place great is what’s next door. Just a few steps away is the best ice cream I have ever had. It’s called Sonny’s Amazing Italian Ices and Creams. It’s a little mom and pop shop run by a guy who makes the ice cream himself by hand. I don’t know how he does it, but it’s the creamiest and best tasting ice cream I’ve ever eaten. If you consider Haagen-Dazs tier 1 ice cream, I’d say this is two tiers above it. The first time I had it I remember just thinking, if this is ice cream, what the fuck have I been eating for the past 26 years? Check out the reviews on yelp if you don’t believe me, out of 150 reviews, I think there are 148 5-stars and 2 4-stars. Best flavors are the salted caramel and the cotton candy.

But that’s not all the strip mall has to offer, there’s also a great poke place on the other side of it called 8oz poke. It’s not my favorite poke place, but it’s still a really great one. What distinguishes them from other poke places is their crispy onion which is larger than average and they give a lot of. For the record though, my favorite poke place in LA is Poke Tiki in Tarzana on Ventura Blvd, mainly because it’s the only poke place I know of that has spicy salmon. I don’t know how one strip mall ended up with so much to offer, but I’m glad I only live 10 min away from it.

Those are the places I would consider truly unique, where you will eat food that is both memorable and likely won’t be topped anywhere else in Los Angeles. I hope you check at least one of them out and have a great trip to LA friend!

Honorable mentions: Mint Garden on Van Nuys Blvd in Sherman Oaks has my favorite Pad-See-Ew of any thai place. AYCE Gogi on Van Nuys Blvd in Los Angeles, best bang for your buck all you can eat kbbq with great ayce appetizers.

If you're in LA, you should check these places out too man. I'm sure you'll love them.

OP here, thanks for the super detailed reccomendations!

go to some small places with recent immigrants
if they cant speek english well its a good

Okay. Lifelong Angeleno here. Some good contributions, I'll pitch in.

Thai food is big here. Gotta get Thai food IN Thai Hollywood. Think about it. Each block has 3+ Thai restaurants in the area. Only the strong survive.

My favorite Thai join is called Yai. There are two locations, either are fine. There are two things you should order. First, if you are a fan of pork belly, you have to get Pad Krapao Mu Krob (Fried holy basil with pork belly). It's not on the menu but they're know what you're talking about. Second, get a noodle dish like Pad See Ew. What a lot of non-asian people don't know is that the secret to good noodles is the char from a seasoned wok with temps that get higher than a home stove top.

Sushi. Other user is wrong about sushi. You can get world class sushi without going into the Valley or inland (which are basically the equivalent to fucking fly over states to any true Angeleno). If you want cheap but good, try out Noshi Sushi off of Beverly. Go on a weekend for the freshest fish. Also, as much as this is a meme, get their spicy tuna, which is unlike any spicy tuna you'll ever have. Thats pretty much as crazy as their 'rolls' go. Also, their unagi is probably some of the best in the city. Uni is good for the price. Nothing drenched in 3 different sauces and 4 types of fish.

Korean. Ktown is legendary here. Hard to go to LA without missing it. Many Koreans I know even say that Ktown korean is actually better than Korean korean (this has to do with market availability of meat and american meat consumption, which is changing in Korea but has led to a HUGE difference in LA.) Korean places are hard to argue for, I love many. For a fun all you can eat experience, I'd say go to Road to Seoul off of Western. There's usually a long wait so either go to El Cholo down the street for magaritas while you wait or go early. It's not THE BEST by any means but it's a standard go to. Get the Road to Seoul beef, and of course some bulgogi and kalbi

THIS

SO MUCH PASTRAMI IN YOUR PASTRAMI SANDWICH YOU COULD MAKE ANOTHER PASTRAMI SANDWICH WITH THE PASTRAMI THAT FALLS OUT

More to add:

Ramen is a big thing here too. There's a few joints that I'd recommend. First, Daikokuya. There are two locations. One in downtown LA in little tokyo which is the original spot and one of the first OG japanese joints in the city. (also just go here for fun tourist shit, even if you're not a weaboo. Also the original mochi store is here) The other is off Sawtelle on the westside (our little little tokyo). Then there's Tsujita, which is also on Sawtelle. Avoid Tatsu. That shit is no good and is like the Chipotle of ramen.

Also, if you make it to Sawtelle, I'd also recommend hitting up Hurry Curry if you're into Japanese curry. I get their fried chicken (karaage curry). This place is criminally underrated. Often on weekend nights every restaurant will have a line EXCEPT for Hurry Curry. But really, it's great.

Chinese. This one is hard. Obviously we have an old china town which you should visit but honestly the food isn't that great. This is where you have to go to the San Gabriel Valley area and inland to find the stuff. If you must have Chinese there are one joint I hit up in the area but only because I don;t want to drive out. Yang Chow, which is just basically your americanized chinese joint. Not 'real' regional chinese though. An old LA staple though that a lot of famous types visit.

Okay, now time for Mexican. This one is hard. Everyone's got a place. More than their go to KBBQ place. I'm going to be humble about this one and say that I don't have a be all end all but my joint is a food truck off of La Brea. El Chato truck. This is legit and they will speak spanish to you if you're remotely brown. It's cool if you don't, there's no hostility. True LA experience.

Finally, the deli. This one is easy. There are two to take seriously. Canter's if it's passed 2am and you're drunk and want a old school feel. Get anything with pastrami. Also great bakery. The best however is Langers. Again, pastrami. I recommend the Ruben. Long waits.

Final thoughts. The Hat is overrated compared to both Langers and Canters. Amerifats in Los Angeles county areas but NOT true los angeles will talk up the hat. They give you giant portions for little money. But it isn't good.

Everytime I'm away from Los Angeles I eat at 4 places ALWAYS.

1. Yai (The best Thai food even comprable to southern style thai IN thailand)
2. Noshi (Decent sushi and knock out prices. Bring cash. Get the spicy tuna (Ignore it's meme status) and the unagi. Uni too.)
3. Hurry Curry (this is my leftfield choice, but I love it and understand it might only be for curry lovers)
4. In n out. (Double double ANimal style blah blah)

A few extra final thoughts. First, sorry for the typos. Second, I want to point a few thing above regarding the contributions of the anons. The user talking about persian food is absolutely right. Persians and their food are an integral part of our city and if you like persian food this is the best city outside of Iranian ones.

Additionally, Dino's is also a great recommendation but honestly more of a quirky LA leftfield pick. I get their chicken. I wouldn't put it near the top.

Last, and this is going to sound pretentious, many of the reccoemndations above are in the San Fernando Valley. Don't go there. For one, it's not fucking Los Angeles and it's a pain in the ass to go there. Second, the food just isn't as good just on the basis of competition. The user recommends it likely because that is where they grew up. You'll notice every spot I recommended was actually in Los Angeles and spread out within the city. No doubt some of that food in the valley is solid but it's just spill over to cater to the population there and no LA proper. It's not really the same food culture either.

You’re damn right you sound pretentious. Pretentious and completely wrong. While I agree that the northern portion of the San Fernando Valley is nothing special, the southern portion, especially the areas nearby the 405 and 101 are just as much LA as the city. To write off the places I mentioned as not worth trying solely on the basis of where they are located is also retarded. The reason I picked those places out is because they’re not just my favorites, they’re the favorites of my friends and family as well, most of whom actually live in the city.

I’ll admit that it’s almost certain that there are better poke places and ramen places than 8oz poke and Kai Ramen, but that ice cream is the best in LA. I’m not saying yelp is the end all be all of food ratings, but search ice cream in LA on yelp and sort by highest rated. Sonny’s comes out on top and it’s not a coincidence. The strip mall is great overall as a place to go because you can have some really good ramen and some fucking great ice cream for dessert afterwards. it's the combo of the two that makes it special.

I just talked with my cousin who is a huge ramen aficionado and Daikokuya is one of her favorites. When I asked her to compare to Kai, she said you can't since Daikokuya is pork broth only and Kai Ramen has other broths which are also great. Take what you will from that.

tsujita is fuckin terrible
but i do love hurry curry of tokyo

(continued)

You’re right when you say there are tons of Mexican places and everyone has their go-to so I can’t say Melody’s will provide the best experience for OP, but I really wasn’t lying when I said every single person I’ve showed Melody’s to has agreed it’s their new favorite. The Valley has just as much of a Mexican population as the City so it’s not like your Mexicans are better chefs than ours. I challenge you to try it before this thread dies and if it doesn’t come close to your favorite places I’ll concede that the Valley is inferior.

On to KBBQ. AYCE Gogi is my favorite place which is why I gave it an honorable mention but most people I know don’t agree on that one. Koreatown is the place to go for the best KBBQ and Road to Seoul is an impeccable recommendation. However, I’d say Ook-ook on W 8Th St. has the edge. My cousins and I usually get KBBQ dinner once a month and a couple of them are die-hard for Road to Seoul while the rest prefer Ook-ook. I’m the outlier with Ayce Gogi really, I like the food better and you get ayce bibimbap, shrimp and veg tempura, gyoza and other stuff.

(continued)

As for Sushi, yea you can get great sushi in all of LA, city or valley, but it'll cost you if you want quality. If you're in the valley though, I'd recommend Little Izakaya on Sepulveda in Sherman Oaks or Sushi Ichiban Kan in Woodland Hills. Ichiban has the best spicy mayo I've ever had, can't praise it enough.

And don't be a 310 elitist, the 818 is just as great!

To be truly sincere at least for me, its the mcchicken, the best value fast food sandwich.

In and out is the most over rated fast food joint in the history of California.

Respect. You're right. You obviously know your shit. I just got it in my blood to hate on SFV and SFV based recommendations. I'll check Gogi some time.

Shout out to you for digging Hurry Curry, Tsujita is overrated without a doubt.

Go get a half pound burger from Carl's Jr, which is my favorite burger place in LA.

STOP: In n out is garbage. its always been garbage it always has been garbage. The only reason the secrete menu exists is because its so fucking garbage that they have to slather on all the shit they can together to distract you from the fact that you are eating pure garbage.

You would be better off throwing a bunch of cheese and onions on top of grilled cat food with a side of fried card board with more cheese, onions and sauce.

They have decent milk shakes.

Thanks, you definitely do as well. I'll be sure to check out Yai.

Any chance you know any places in LA with some good poutine?

LA Gastronomy on washington blvd near the beach

Na I don't. I think Plan Check does it sometime but I think their food is overrated.

Make sure to order Animal style for your burger and fries

Fogo de chau, lunch special only
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse

You shut your whore mouth.

OP, order this:

> 3x3, animal style
> animal fries
> large chocolate shake

Make sure you have a hotel standing by because you will need a nap.

If in n out is a food destination for you, you're gonna be disappointed. But it's a really good value everyday burger.

Fast Food only? You're retarded.

Just yelp search filter one $.

The only fast food place worth visiting. If you're going that direction is the original Barstow del taco on the way to Vegas, and in n out of course.

>recommending chocolate shake over neopolitan

I've never had them but judging pics from a distance, it looks like you REALLY need to like thousand island dressing.

Umami Burger is better than In-n-Out.
