fuck off, faggot

>bragging about reading 12 books in a year

and i thought Veeky Forums was bad HOLY FUCK

we're a bunch of edgy psueds and we're literally some of the only people in our generation carrying the torch of classic literature... even english majors these days are getting by solely on gender/postcolonial studies. we're it lads.

Your mom sucks dick for free. Unless it's mine, then she has to pay me.

I always wonder if there are people on Veeky Forums who came directly from reddit or other sites and never graduated from /b/.

Want to make a top post on /books? Just say something along the lines that reading is important and it totally changed your life, it literally saved you and bla bla. The karma whoring there is ridiculous.

I like to browse subreddits of people confessing shit about their lives.

holy fuck i'm mad

the answer is obviously no

For those who don't want to expose themselves to the toxicity of Reddit, here is what was posted by the 12 books guy:

I always found reading to be a bit of a chore. There is so much visual stimulating mediums out there with television series, movies, video games, etc. that I found staring at pages to be a bore. After turning 29 this past January with a wife and a three year old, my free time was very sporadic. I needed a hobby I could do in spurts and that I could put down whenever I wanted.

So I decided I would write. I used to write all the time in High School. I write on forums and Reddit all the time. How hard could writing fiction be? I fired up Word one night, popped my knuckles, and started. An hour later, the empty white screen of Page 1 taunted me. I was lost. And the most common advice I kept reading was that "to write, you need to read". It made sense. A chef needs to taste all the ingredients and try different food to know how to combine those flavors to achieve the dish they wish to create. Reading a cookbook will show you how to put ingredients together, but not explain why you are putting them together. A writer needs to experience how words go together, not just read about how to properly construct a sentence.

So I scrapped any writing goals I had this year and shifted to reading. I told myself I would make the time to read one book a month. 12 books this year. It was going to be hard, painful, and boring.

I was wrong.

I signed up Goodreads and bought my first book in a decade. The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell. After the first few chapters something happened. It was like I was put on autopilot and things just clicked. The pages pretty much disappeared and as I was reading, the words painted literal scenes in my head. It is really hard to describe but it was something I never experienced when I was forced to read "the classics" in school.

I finished my last book of the year, book 4 in Jack Whyte's Camulod Chronicles, The Saxon Shore. My stats according to Goodread's "2016 - Your Year In Books":

Total Books Read: 23 Total Pages Read: 9215

That is staggering for me. I almost doubled my goal this year. The longest and most popular book I read this year was Shogun by James Clavell. I ended up loving that book so much I bought a few copies and handed them out to some friends of mine as Christmas gifts.

Cont.

I can't imagine not reading now. My kindle goes with me everywhere and every opportunity to snag a few minutes of reading time I take.

I read a few things that were harder to get through, but I didn't find difficult. But.. when you find something that clicks with you... it feels like you are transported a new world. Words disappear and all you see is the story you are experiencing.

Honestly, my original thoughts of writing have been completely cooled off. There is so much out there to read. So much to consume. The thought that every book I see when I walk into a library could be a portal to a completely new world is exciting.

Reading is exciting. I look forward to it almost every day. A whole new world, well millions of them, have been opened to me.

Gotta be honest with ya, that was so powerful, I almost shed a tear.

The way that guy wrote about it is cancer but I think it's nice he has rediscovered reading for pleasure.

Sometimes I think Veeky Forums forgets reading is meant to be fun as well

alright alright, this dudes obviously the duke of plebtown, C. Ommoner. But c'mon.. at least he started reading. I mean its clear the dude is enjoying his newfound hobby. Sure he's mostly reading super pleb stuff, but who are we to shit all over him for actually exploring something he previously thought was of no worth?

Fun?

we're patricians

...

At least he's having fun. Look at you, Veeky Forums. Are you having fun reading?

I agree with this. I think Veeky Forums is often too cynical.

I absolutely despised reading for most of my life until 24. There are many reasons to blame for that, most of which is the garbage kids are made to read in American schools. The teacher would always be like "we're going to find a book for you that you like" and they'd give all these YA books that pander to kids about loneliness or acceptance and these many didactic moral lessons that are just completely devoid of and interesting shifts or moral questions. Between that and trying to force high school kids to understand the subtleties of Shakespeare or Jane Austen, the American school attitude toward literature is absolute garbage that underestimates the intelligence of kids and then try to jump them straight to Beowulf.

As a result I didn't read a full real book until maybe the 9th grade. From about 16-23 I read about a book a year, several by Stanislaw Lem, White Noise by Delillo, some Brett Easton Ellis and a lot of nonfiction but it was always a chore and I would start and stop 20 or 30 books a year.

Around 24 though, I decided for some reason that I wanted to read Book of the New Sun and that really clicked. The fact that it was broken into 4 books with tiny chapters probably helped a lot. Made it very easy to keep reading with a good stopping point and it actually had enough substance to it to keep me reading and interested. Since then I read maybe a 150-200 pages a week.

It's an awesome feeling when you finally find that love for literature. It's like an entirely separate world opens and you suddenly have access to whole realms of thought that you previously thought closed for you or too laborious to attempt.

Anyway, wrapping up this blog post. I get why that guy feels so good, and yeah it would be nice for him to read slightly more challenging stuff but it's not like he's reading the Hunger Games or twilight and everyone has to start somewhere.

Take it easy, guys.

ITT:

>well at least the kids are reading!

Fuck off you cunts. You sound like your pleb parents.

...

holy fug

If your glutamate isn't inducing double-stranded DNA breaks then you're not reading.

Having fun is for babies. I'm a man, I have the classics instead.

Nigga this can't be true. Anybody knows about some good non-pleb literature forum?

>not taking 500mg of magnesium and a b-complex every 300 pages
>not minmaxing the methionine cycle and homocysteine metabolism

I bet you want your glial astrocytes suffocated by tau and amyloid brambles, you fucking brainlet.

My process was:
/b/ → /v/ → /co/ → /tv/ → Veeky Forums

holy shit wow, normies are being normies

>you have to go back

tl;dr

>fireworks are called "fake fire" in poorspeak

>>fireworks are called "fake fire" in poorspeak
Artificial means more than fake. It also means made by men's hand or art.

-ars,artis → work, opera
-facere → to do

>poorspeak
I may be poor, but I'm gonna hop the border soon, so...

Didn't you miss two squares

I hate the new captcha, use the legacy one

I remember visiting b when I was 14 and being scared away after seeing all the gore and porn.

>Who, in your opinion, is the most badass female character in all literature?
>Eowyn from LOTR. The scene where she kills the Witch King proclaiming "I am no man" is one of my favorite scenes of all literature.

It's funny because the majority of Veeky Forums only pretend to read

Let's get even more outraged together, guys.

Someone go to twitter and find a female author who complains about white men.

Someone go to tumblr and find a feminist or a numale who says something bad about masculinity

Someone go to facebook and find a nonwhite saying something stupid about literature

Bring back your loot and let us erect our idealized self-image by jerking each other off

I remember visiting b and thinking "holy moley... I want more"

Never ceases to surprise me how people on such high horses can still reach their keyboards

Cancer thread.

MODS please do your job. Reddit threads are absolutely worthless.

>getting butthurt over Veeky Forums shitposts
Go to reddit normie

...

>getting butthurt over shitposts

Yes. What's the issue?

>be /lit
>try to be special snowflake cuz I actually read book
>ponder to other elitist pricks about how elitist you are instead of actually discussing books
>realize no one on Veeky Forums actually reads or doesn't have the mental capacity to form original thoughts

you guys are pathetic

Ressentiment is ressentiment

>get mad that Veeky Forums makes fun of redditors
>so le pathetic! Loser virgin autists
Spotted the redditor

>virgin detected

Not a virgin m8, just a concerned Veeky Forums user calling out redditors and normies where I see them

>the same 3 pictures every time polacks get mad

>normies

You aren't on /r9k/, you pathetic piece of shit

He's been here for one whole day

warosu.org/lit/?task=search2&ghost=&search_text=&search_subject=&search_username=&search_tripcode=&search_email=&search_filename=IMG_0576.png&search_datefrom=&search_dateto=&search_op=all&search_del=dontcare&search_int=dontcare&search_ord=new&search_capcode=all&search_res=post

I don't even care anymore. This board has been lowering in quality because redditors want to make everything about them
>le r9k frogpostera need to be hanged
>disagree with me? gb2pol xD
>stop being mean to people! This is a safe space
You newfags haven't managed to integrate to Veeky Forums culture at all, and then you go and ruin every thread with your obnoxious liberal snark, it's exhausting.

It's a good picture.

Thats one dedicated froggy.

Ah, you're the one who thought there was a conspiracy against conservative views when your bait thread was deleted:
warosu.org/lit/?task=search2&ghost=&search_text=&search_subject=&search_username=&search_tripcode=&search_email=&search_filename=IMG_0574.png&search_datefrom=&search_dateto=&search_op=all&search_del=dontcare&search_int=dontcare&search_ord=new&search_capcode=all&search_res=post

And all frog faggots do need to be hanged.

You're new. You probably came when the 'le reddit socialist invasion' picture was posted on /pol/ and /r9k/ 800000 times, and now you're here to wage ideological war.

How many of the threads in pic related did you create? That was yesterday. This isn't a reddit invasion, it's a /pol9k/ one

There's a reason though. The board has been lowering quality because of people making threads that has nothing to do with literature lately.

But you, the brave aryan soldier, still make your stand against the omnious threat of the red(just like them commies!!!)ittors. Fighting the good fight all day without rest or monetary compensation.

>redditor calling me new
I wasn't spamming shit, put I do recognize that the mods are biased.

My issue is with people here who act like this is reddit's offsite meme factory and get mad at imaginary enemies.

Frogfaggotry is integral to Veeky Forums. The ability to discuss controversial ideas and to have fun shitposting is too. But redditors need to go in every fucking thread and make the same lame "jokes" (usually attacks on the character of posters, calling them virgins, Nazis, etc). It's just so predictable. I wish reddit had a good literature board so you guys didn't need to come here, we'd all be better off.
Reddit-tier

You sound triggered.

>usually attacks on the character of posters, calling them virgins, Nazis, etc
>"REDDITOR, REDDITOR, REDDITOR!"

>so much to consume

Plebs see reading as consuming books.
Fuck.
Fuck.
REEEEEEEEEEE

reeee and so on

Yes, i am actually. At least while reading.

YOU'RE ALL FROM REDDIT

how can you not have a powerful enough mind to imagine someone moving?

>filename isnt IMG_XXXX.jpg
Immersion ruined.

I'm not

Milhouse likes reddit!

Smug pepes only make it more clear how badly you shit up the board
I don't give a fuck what your views are or where you came from if you follow the rules of Veeky Forums, namely, not making threads about your autistic politics or thinly-veiled excuses to whine about women and blacks and instead making threads about books

This.

He'll call you reddit now, though

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

except we have those threads on Veeky Forums ...

dumb frogposter

There is a lot to learn from reddit. Specifically how not to become a shepherded normie that can only speak in a systematic pattern. I only go on there because I study rhetoric and am doing research on this stupid way of speaking redditors have which contributes 80% of their vapid smugness. The most important thing is to either start or end what you say with some vaguely condescending old timey Cracked bequeathal of satisfaction (and always satisfaction) such as "you, I like you" or "god bless you you magnificent bastard." Then there are lots of autistic fillings you can put in, which are mostly references and never ever original content. Maybe I'll post the thesis on here someday.

Please don't.

Please do.

desu most of our moms suck dick for free

/r/ literature

falseflagging

I haven't been having fun since I was born.

I got here by literally clicking a link from reddit. My friends told me never to go to /b/, and for years I just assumed that /b/ was all of Veeky Forums so I avoided the whole website. Eventually when I got sick of reddit and all the shitty dead message boards out there I gave in and jumped ship over here. Now I'm kicking myself for not coming here years ago when I had the opportunity. There's literally no other place on the internet with a high volume of discussion about geek interests, aside from maybe Twitter which is pure cancer.

>I may be poor, but I'm gonna hop the border soon, so...

BUILD THE WALL

Disgusting

>He posts a /v/ image

>I came from reddit
>scared of /b/
>geek interests
I bet you unironically tell people to go to /pol/ and /r9k/. Graduate from newfag college before you tell us how the site should be like you fucking normie. We hate reddit for a reason.

Me on the left

You on the right

>he's still here
>he spends his holidays keeping Veeky Forums pure from the reddit menace
>4 free

>Me on the left
This isn't Twitter

>He's STILL trying to convince people that /pol9k/ is real
Feel free to stop larping at any time

That image was made by a newfag. You can tell because they're a dumb frogposter who probably came to /b/ to look at ylyl threads.

I love the fact that no other board has as many redditors on board as /pol/.

I didn't say anything about how the website should be, nor did I say anything about /pol/ or /r9k/. What the fuck are you talking about?

>reddit newfag misuses a Veeky Forums meme
Why am I not surprised
Nope.
>y-you're a le newfag!

>He just realized that this isn't Twitter

>he's posted this pic 6 times in the last 24 hours

the absolute state of frogmen

m8, /pol/ colonized Reddit not the other way around. Redditors hate /pol/
