There was an old theory that stated that civilisations arose wherever people had to come together and build societies in order to tame nature and were then able to live off the land. Too far north and there was no chance to tame nature and too far south they had, as you say, already everything they needed.

This, seemingly, explains why all old civilisations are located around 35 degrees north.

Today this theory is dismissed as Nazi era thinking but I am not sure what we have instead that explains the latitude of old civilisations. Perhaps it was the word "urheimat" that was the straw.

The winters weren't as brutal as in, say, Northern Europe. This latitude was pretty good for agriculture.

Also most of these civilisations were based around major rivers that provided water for crops as well as means for transport. And with the civilisation, according to that disbanded theory, you could organise an irrigation system.

Greece doesn't quite fit the bill, rather arid and no major rivers like the Nile. Also it came much later.

Also Catal Huyuk lacks a huge river but apparently it was based around a trading intersection, not agriculture.

Another thing I don't quite understand is that also 20 - 40 degrees south there is plenty of land with similar climate and major rivers. Yet I never heard of any major ancient civilisations there.

Africa isn't a very hospitable place to live due to a variety of factors: malaria, inconsistent weather patterns, etc. Outside of a few cases it was difficult to build lasting settlements and even when it was possible these settlements didn't support much of any population. When your focus is on getting something to eat and you're constantly having to move around, it's challenging to make much progress scientifically or generally. You'll find that the civilizations that were able to have some lasting settlements were generally the most advanced.

Europe and East Asia are generally extremely nice places to live in terms of weather and arable land, which allowed for the development of civilizations and over the generations heavy advancement in technology and whatnot

The advancement of society and science is a collective effort, and depends a lot on how information is distributed and passed down. Also, much like science, it only builds on previous work. There are no "superstar" civilizations. Even Europe had regressions like the dark ages, and several debilitating wars, even before the World Wars.

Who does it isn't important, but because it's a cumulative process there are inevitabilities. Europe didn't have the Scientific Revolution because it was Europe... that was just how the cards fell.

honestly i feel you'd get better results on pol or his. remember that europe was able to develop sciences and further study them after the renaissance. this rediscovery combined with developments in astronomy and mathematics had helped europeans. this development in science eventually led to the church and other figures who held science back (church and galileo for example). once the church let go of its grip on this, science was allowed to be further studied and this lead to the enlightenment...etc. rest is basic history.

africa has even has a movement of fallists, who want to go against western science. (mainly that one university in south africa) the point is that they have not let go of spiritual culture to allow for sciences to be pursued.

Geologist here. The soil is not very good for farming. A lot of it is shit like Oxisols and Ultisols. YOU try growing crops in heavily leeched acidic rainforest soil deposits. The places where the soil is good,are places with very little rainfall. Even the Dutch failed to colonize Africa and believe me they tried.

When basic survival is at risk it's very difficult to have time for scientific achievement.

Just check out the US map of soils for comparison. See those Molisols? Right in the heartland of the US with plenty of rain? There's a damned fucking good reason the US is the breadbasket of the world.
