is the message not to be restless, because one has had consistently ill-fate?

femdom cuck

No it means odysseus is a wiener

>But he still lay there twisting and turning. As when a man is cooking a sasuage stuffed with fat and blood, and he turns it this way and that over the fire, eager for it to be roasted.

Truly a classic.

>steadfast
That's Fagles, not Homer.

This translation is great

Whose translation is that?

Tony Montana's

>free verse
GTFO. Why read this when you can read Chapman?

EY FUCK YOU MANG

Finally done with it and cried like a bitch when Ddysseus met Laertes

Next up: Ovid's Metamorphoses

Stephen Mitchell. I wanted to get Fitzgerald but the one the library was stocking was yellowed as shit with weird stains so I got Mitchell's translation

Here's a good one. From Charles Martin's translation of the Metamorphoses.

this can't be real

More.

>Stephen Mitchell
Holy shit you fool. He is one of the worst translators there is—in general, I mean. He practically rewrites the damn thing, only he doesn't insert his own great poetry like Pope.

Fitzgerald is the worst of the Big Three, but at least he's IN the Big Three.

Fucking hell man, now I want to use Martin's translation, but then again I don't know whether I can even say I read Metamorphoses if it's translated like the pictures posted.

Did you try Mitchell's Iliad or Odyssey translations before? Because they flow very well and I didn't have any problems with them at all.

Also did you have to copy paste that em dash lol

Flow isn't how I'd rate translations my dude. He does this thing where he tries to "capture the tone" of how people *should* sound, for example, making Achilleus sound like a veteran soldier.

This is bullshit.
>Also did you have to copy paste that em dash lol
No. That sounds exhausting.

Okay if I ever get the urge to buy either book I'll get Fagles or whatever

l a t t i m o r e

But Fagles is alright. Also you can get them both for free.

Cool post I found for anyone else like me who does minimal supplementary reading

Thanks but I don't like ebooks for books >400 pages. I'll get Lattimore when I have enough money for hardcovers lol

>ancient Greek piece
>fagless

Fat chance
