Basically, the answer is 9, based on modern order of operation if you write:

6 ÷ 2(1+2)

Order of operations is something completely arbitrary, so nobody is really wrong, it's just that some people don't understand what the majority of us accept to be the proper order of operations.
PEMDAS is the usual one, but it is redundant, and many people don't remember that the M and D, or the A and S, can be swapped.
It should be PEMA, with the understanding that division is multiplication by reciprocal and subtraction is addition by negation. That would clear things up.

subtraction and division are illusory. division is sometimes denoted as ÷ because it is really just the multiplication of the reciprocal, which is why the division symbol itself looks like a fraction.

Also, subtraction is just the addition of a negative number which is why its the same exact sign as a negative sign. its just a shorthand notation that saves writing a plus followed by a negative for every negative addition operation

The answer is 1. the only conceivable way you can get an answer other than one is if you do not prioritize the addition in the paranthese. This would be stupid since the very first step in the order of operations is the paranthese.

Order-of-operations isn't really math. It really is only a precedence hierarchy that people abide by so they can be lazy and omit the parentheses. I really think infix notation breaks people just like Roman numerals probably broke people's ability to do simple math thousands of years ago.

Independent of explicit instruction as to what order of operations conventions are being used, there is more than one answer. This is why conventions are discussed at the beginning of literally every math text. There's no such thing as a universal order of operations and if you think there is, you don't know 1/1000 of what you think you know about math.

6 * .5 * (3) = 9. It's always 9. Some people are just brainlets about it. Heck the order doesn't even matter if you use the commutative property properly.
