We have powerful leg muscles, are a decent size and can keep up top speed for greater distances than most mammals can. Yet compared to other mammals are size, our top speed is pitiful. The average human can't even outrun large mammals such as elephants, rhynos and hypos. Why is that?
>powerful leg muscles no, all of our muscles are weak as fuck
We are slow because we are bipedal and our muscles are shit.
Jayden Lee
humans predominate in slow twitch muscles for long distances (hence as you said); some theorise as an adaptation as part of hunting animals over long distances on the savannah but who really knows. we are unusual amongst animals in that most other animals rely more on fast twitch for fast bursts of speed maybe for quick escape and hunting. the only other animals which really match are muscle profile is things like slow loris'
Jace Turner
we went from 4legs to 2legs
Image dog on 2 legs. It's possible but nowhere near 4 legs
Ayden Stewart
>tfw the second fastest land animal on the planet has two legs.
anyone care to guess what it is?
Luis Brown
I'd guess Ostrich.
Joseph Garcia
>powerful legs very different from our own >entire body is orientated towards leg usage and speed
compared to
>weak legs and body, deriving from creatures fit for 4 leg agile movement in dense areas, like through a forest - not even good for doing that anymore due to impaired agility and weak muscles we are physically pathetic and prone to damage, our only asset is our brains. All things considered, we run fairly well, it's just there are creatures who can move their bodies faster and have much stronger muscles.
Nathaniel Moore
if we are counting birds, the top like 10 animals are all birds, with a bat or insect in there probably
Zachary Wood
humans are the subspecies of the animal kingdom
Connor Young
Womans didn't evolve to run fast, they evolved to walk very long distances which helped us far more in our style of hunting.
Lincoln Price
All im saying bud is bipedalism isn't a necessary reason we are slow.
And you could argue birds got their bodies from 4 legged animals too.
Adrian Williams
We are really good runners actually, just not fast. But we have more stamina than most animals.
Ethan Wright
by land animals i meant not flying.
William Jenkins
We were built to be long distance runner, run long and fast enough for the prey to get tired. Theoretically.
Aaron Gonzalez
>humans >slow
are you retarded? Humans are the fastest land animal over long distances. In 100 mile races, a human can easily beat a racehorse
Kevin Ross
>we are physically pathetic and prone to damage complete nonsense
Humans have the best heat-regulation system of any animal on the planet. Our hairless bodies and sweat glands enable us to carefully control our heat.
For example, when a dog runs, after a certain period of time it MUST stop. Because it overheats. Same with any other animal, a gazelle, or a lion or whatever. A human can just keep going and going and going.
Humans are absolutely relentless. Most other animals can be physically active for a short period of time, after which they "switch off" and rest for hours. Like a cheetah, or a rhino, or whatever. Humans never switch off. They can be "on" for 14 hours a day if they want to. Just keep going and going and going and going, absolutely relentless. Building things, moving things, running around doing things....etc.
Daniel Martinez
I'd love to see another animal capable of exceeding the escape velocity of Earth.
Carson Bennett
We don't need to run fast. Despite the "le humans are awful animals we are just good because of our brains XDD" memery humans are extremely good runners.
Lincoln Ramirez
This is the ultimate meme perpetuated by nonathletic losers who like to imagine they could outwear a cheetah. Anyone who has ever run more than a mile knows that running for 14 hours straight will destroy your body. Marathons ruin knees and0p have people pissing blood and they only last 4-5 hours.
>youtube.com/watch?v=826HMLoiE_o Here is a video of actual persistence hunting in action. It's a bunch of guys walking at a leisurely pace for hours until the deer are sleep deprived. Then the fastest guy quickly takes down the weakest deer. It's not ""absolutely relentless'" running, because humans in real life aren't like video game characters..
Colton Thompson
>are muscles Kill yourselves you illiterates.
Jace Taylor
>calls other nonathletic losers >claims that running a fucking mile A FUCKING MILE makes you realize how bad running if or you How fucking fat are you? I used to do 2x/70km a week for years when younger and it took years before it affected my health negatively. is largely correct despite you latching onto one number in his post, humans are one of the best long distance runners on the planet.
Ethan Stewart
>Why are humans so slow?
Easy, we descended are tree climbers, it is amazing how fast we do run considering our ancestry.
Ryder Murphy
Primate's primary evolutionary advantage was it's brain and opposable thumbs.
Evolution isn't "guided" by anything; good shit usually just survives.
It's not all animals seeking to max out all possibilities; that's not how evolution works.
