If radio waves go through walls, and so do x-rays, why doesn't light? It's electromagnetic radiation

If radio waves go through walls, and so do x-rays, why doesn't light? It's electromagnetic radiation.

cause light is photons and x-rays are magical spooky wavey substance.

idk man google it

different materials absorb different wavelengths
you could have googled this, idiot

but why is visible light the only one that gets absorbed?

That doesn't make sense. It's all electromagnetic radiation right?

>If radio waves go through walls, and so do x-rays, why doesn't light? It's electromagnetic radiation.
>put finger in from of flashlight
>shine bright like a diamond

>but why is visible light the only one that gets absorbed?
it's not..
you don't think all the xrays or radio waves get absorbed do you? it's just some fraction, which is dependent on the energy of the photon and material its passing thru.
photoelectric effect for example has interaction cross section proportional to E^3/Z^3

Do x rays go through walls? They don't go through bones.

Photon wavelength determines energy so it's really 'why does this substance absorb photons of energy x' and the answer is because molecules and electrons in it have energy transitions corresponding to that energy.

It has to do with the ways in which the nucleus, atom, and molecules can absorb the light; much like how a guitar string will only resonate at certain frequencies of sound. In the case of electromagnetic radiation, it is the frequency of photon.
The absorbent properties differ between materials. For instance, visible light and radio waves penetrate glass quite well, but ultraviolet does not.

How do you think xray works? How are we able to see your skeleton with x-rays.

It's almost like x-rays are absorbed by
the calcium in ya rattle bones.
It's almost like x-rays are absorbed by certain substances while visible is absorbed by another.
It's almost like every electromagnetic wave is interacting differently with different substances based on it's energy and size..

What a peculiar conundrum..

It's the opposite. Think about it. If something can penetrate matter, how would it be visible?

dude what if our eyes were made out of glass

Can you see glass?

>It has to do with the ways in which the nucleus, atom, and molecules can absorb the light; much like how a guitar string will only resonate at certain frequencies of sound. In the case of electromagnetic radiation, it is the frequency of photon.
not exactly. guitar strings will resonate at some frequency that changes based on the material/thickness, and length. photons will be aborbed/scattered by a material based on the photons energy(frequency) and material. 1 inch of water absorbed more 1 MeV photons than .5 inch water, but 1 inch or .5 inch water will absorb more 1 KeV photons than it will 1 MeV photons

That's not how that works.

Are you fucking retarded?
>put paper in front of light
>can still see the light
It's almost as if different things pass through objects with different difficulties.

Ask the birds who keep flying into apartment buildings.

Your choice of water absorption is an interesting comparison.
Guitar string:
There is interaction between the frequency of the sound and the vibrational modes of the string (affected by factors such as tension, mass and length), causing absorption of some of the sounds energy and vibration of the string in the respective mode.
Water:
There is interaction between the frequency of the photon and the vibrational modes of the intermoleculer bonds (affected by factors such as free electrons, polarity and temperature), causing absorption of some of the photons and vibration of the molecules in the respective mode.

Wrong.

Vacuum UV is absorbed by air.

Birds also fly into the side of my brick house.

Same reason some kinds of radiation don't go through some things.

Some kinds of ionizing radiation don't go through heavy metals, uv doesn't go through your sunglasses, etc.

>The energy transported by a wave is directly proportional to the square of the amplitude of the wave

There are these things called "Chemicals" that can be designed to absorb a certain wavelength of electromagnetic radiation.

You're about to get raped

omg our eyes are radios

>If radio waves go through walls
They either go through walls, or they do not.
If they do, then fckn say they do, and if they
do not, then STFU
Lrn2radio-waves fgt pls

diffraction
try again

It depends on the wall though. Wall isn't a material.

>There is interaction between the frequency of the photon and the vibrational modes of the intermoleculer bonds (affected by factors such as free electrons, polarity and temperature), causing absorption of some of the photons and vibration of the molecules in the respective mode.
you're trying the analogy game too hard.
that's not how photons interact with matter.
they are absorbed at different rates based on their energy level, and the material theyre interacting with. the water absorption scenario is not some sort of analogy, that's exactly physically what happens.

cuz photons are particles and radio waves are waves
