We had other instances during history were one could say that the chinese empire was the greatest power in the world. During those periods China had bigger landmass and wealth than the western powers. The fact is that during none of those periods China decided to expand beyond the Pacific, they were more than satisfied being a local power, different from the westerns who were pretty quick to go for world domination.
