For a blog post? Just write how you felt about it.

I know that's a cop-out but I'd rather read a genuine opinion made than something that sounds like somebody writing an essay for their lit professor.

I try to aim for around 800 words and usually start with a fact that somebody who hasn't read the book might want to know. Then I move onto plot and theme discussion with references to quotes and/or section of the book that stood out as relevant. One argument per paragraph. 100 words per paragraph.

If it's for something more important then disregard this post forever.

I just want to know what to look for so I can read deeper? or get more into my books. sorry am pleb.

I'd consider what are the core parts of the novel that might be important outside of the text and go from there. For instance, I wrote a post about Snow Crash recently and discussed how it ties in myths from ancient societies into its own futuristic universe thus combining old and new.

If that doesn't help then that 'How To Read a Book' book will probably assist. Good luck.

little 2 real m8

From the perspective of a book review-reader, I just want to see coherence in and commitment to the opinion given in a review. Just hate it when critics make believable arguments and then suddenly disavow everything in the last 3 sentences.

>Tfw I have a female friend who could fit that description
>Tfw she wanted me to bang her but I don't want to be the imaginary guy from this post
Vapid relationships sound like hell.

COR THAT BODY

only 24...

holy shit. that was almost perfect. I died at her ass starts looking like a lazyboy armrest that mike tyson punched six thousand times

best part is she's probably going to see this hahaha

Soul destroying. A masterpiece of our time.

hey guys can you laugh at the big Green text story and also shed some personal opinion on how to review a book. getting good stuff so far.

five star post 2bh

Truly excellent post.

god that face, he's already dead

Well, your knowledge about things is usually the limiting factor.
This includes knowledge about books themselves.
The more you read the more you know what to look for (subconsciously or consciously).

Try to focus first on what's obvious to you.
What do you like, or dislike about the book.
Then be more specific, in chapters, paragraphs, phrases, etc.
What subject in the book catches your eye? what doesn't?
What actions do the characters take, what do you like about those actions? or not like.
Are you familiar with a certain subject? Be it the food, relationships, up to law theory, metaphysics, religion, etc.
Etc., the more experience you have with the subjects you address the better the critique.
Applying the socratic method isn't a bad start, have the discussion with yourself.

Don't try to think in "what does the author try to say here" at first, you can, but a newb mistake is to focus solely on that and to read based on what you think the author wants you to discover exclusively.
You can also directly address faults with the author though. Does it feel preachy? like "he clearly has a personal problem with X thing and it detracts from the story". Or you can even tackle the style "holy shit, this author clearly programmed a thesaurus to run and replace every single instance with a synonym".

thanks. good stuff. I noticed that right now im focusing to much on what the author is trying to say. I want to be able to finish books I don't like but still be able to talk about them for other things. I stopped giving up on books last year and so far it has worked out.

...

Say whether you liked or didn't like something and provide reasoning. It's that simple.

There's more to a work than liking or not something.
It's usually the start, since people are always more eager, and find it easier, to talk about their feelings about things.
Though it can be the endgame too, unless it's pertains to our profession or a practical application, we tend to read things for pleasure.
Anyway, it's pretty open, no need to fret on it too much unless it's for a paper.

...

Amazing post, sir

I bet he's rethinking his relationship with her ugly ass

i hope she tweets about this

Tao Lin should publish this post.

Post of week award. Thanks for this user

An enthralling tale, user

I want to believe the dude himself posted this.

I'm typically against the pretentious "using Veeky Forums as my personal writers workshop" type of posts but this one gets my approval.

looks like i found a new pasta today.

Back to ribbit

Why not just break with her lel.

post of the fucking year

you read it, then you write your thoughts

hi mira what do your feet look like haha

twitter.com/miragonz/status/832817901279121408

...

hi mira, i love u, wanna fuck

I wonder how many times she has tweeted those words exactly. What a waste of user's inspiration.

>me
Embarrassing confessional.

>again
huh

Everyone say hi to Mira.

Hi Mira.

I liked her tweet. I hope she follows me on twitter.

lmao go away mira keep tweeting about how snorting weed makes you a feminist

mira i had a gf who was a lot like you, except more talented. i'd let you replace her though

it's nice to know that someone as hip and trendy as mira gonzolezstein has nothing better to do on a friday night than start threads about herself on Veeky Forums and then angry tweet when people talk shit about her.

she's just like me in a way, empty and ironically detached. i hope she screenshots this.

Mira what do you do for a living? I need inspo.

Also, do you feel more, or less, validated by the drugs you're prescribed for whatever you have?
I don't want to admit openly about being medicated because I feel like people will perceive me as playing the emotionally unstable fake artist. Maybe only after I'm old and someone interviews me, so that they go "oh, this is interesting in retrospect", but dunno if I'll even make it until then.

at least tao lin attempts at being interesting mira is literally

>is a bong an instrument lol
>too sleepy to eat but too hungry to sleep
>i bet the guy in this porn is a trump supporter

I love the smell of fresh new pasta

holy heck

so...

Who is this kid?
Why is there a thread about her?

Eerily good simulation of Mira tweets, can you do some more?

Also, what happens to girls like Mira when they hit 30-40 and no one is listening anymore? Do they transition to saying things like this to uncaring cashiers at the grocery store, like lonely old ladies talking about their dogs?

tao lin's former sidekick

she also probably started this thread "ironically"

mira quote me on twitter and i'll buy u some shit from your amazon wishlist

I always meme her here. because she's the voice of our generation lol

her name is mariachi elizabeth wurtzel

yo normie that look at this thread. go watch carliclaire on YouTube. she's a dope ass booktuber.

>booktuber

I fucking hate normies like you

Looks like meat's back on the menu boys!

Savage

I don't even dislike mira. I just feel sad for her. The fact that her poetry, which to her is exciting and meaningful, is garbage and boring to everyone else. The whole "twitter poet girl who uses lower case and talks about how they feel" shtick got played out years ago. And then there's the fact that she has to tweet about a post on Veeky Forums that destroyed her so she can get validation from her orbiters. She's barely clinging on anymore, and the whole self-loathing mess persona isn't attractive.

Is it mysoginistic of me to say that women should knock it off with the "my life is a mess, I'm ugly and hate myself on Twitter" thing and maybe get married and raise a family? I think these women need to start acting their age.

>Is it mysoginistic of me to say that women should knock it off with the "my life is a mess, I'm ugly and hate myself on Twitter" thing and maybe get married and raise a family?
yep

>slowly being punched in the face for three years
I didn't know she was influenced by Bergson

A girl I loved wrote like this.
Should I kill myself?

>Is it mysoginistic (sic) of me to say that women should knock it off with the "my life is a mess, I'm ugly and hate myself on Twitter" thing and maybe get married and raise a family?
Proposing that the only thing they can do to redeem themselves is to get married and raise a family is misogynistic indeed.
But I do agree that publicly exposing the persona of being a broken mess isn't productive nor will it help with their situation.

I don't think that's the only thing, but I do think it's better than whatever they are doing now

If they can't even deal with themselves, I can't imagine them in post-partum depression and being responsible for the mental health of even more people.

>I don't even dislike mira
obviously you dislike her so do I why would you say that
>Is it misogynistic
of course it is and you know it. fucks sake.

Maybe if Mira didn't abuse drugs and had a proper routine she wouldn't be so depressed. I can't understand fucking around with pills, if you use them a lot bad things are going to happen.

When it rains outside people get wet.

she just seems so one trick. at least tao tried to grow as a writer.

That's not fucking poetry, that's sadposting on livejournal.

Hi Mira

nah that guys post just triggered me but i will mention she's still tweeting about this thread

Mira why don't you want to talk to us? The water's warm.

of course she is, she made it after all

Shut up Mira.

Now that you mentioned drugs. Some of the first ones people should give up (I mean, ideally all of the party drugs) is coke and weed.
Everyone praises weed as the cure to everything, but holy shit, weed induces terrible depression states when coming down.
So yeah, Mira should give up drugs.

I wish I could make a career poorly articulating basic human insecurities and embodying a stereotype of the postmodern inner-city artist

Is there somewhere I can submit a resume?

how did she even find out about this thread

It's only misogyny if you fall victim to the cognitive bias that any criticism of a woman, or women in general, needs to be scrutinized 100x as hard, and by default you are a misogynistic hateful fucking rapist for levelling it.

If you're a normal person, yes, it's normal to look at a generation of young women who are ruining their lives with short-sighted behavior and say "What you're really missing is long-term meaning in your life. You know, like people with families and purposes external to themselves have. Traditionally that comes from getting married and not being a gigantic slut who attention whores about how miserable she is being a slut 24/7."

It's no different from looking at a generation of young men who are channeling their desires for camaraderie and adventure into video games and checking out of society, and suggesting that maybe they'd be happier in the long run if they built careers and families, or at least sought their adventure through hard-working means rather than purely in instant gratification.

That doesn't get you called a misandrist by default, because no one is reflexively on guard against it. If you haven't figured it out yet, this reflex to shield women from valid criticism is exactly why they're so miserable in the first place these days. Half a century of your dumb behavior being excused will get you some entrenched dumb behavior.

Mira is going to have a rough time when she realizes life as a woman doesn't consist of your 20s, when attention is free and plentiful. There's a few more decades after that.

she made it/attention seeking user alerted her/she lurks

Narcassistic twat is still reading this thread as she lays in that crusty, cum-stained cot of hers.

Weed just turns everything into a blur. It deadens pain but it deadens everything else along with it.

So, it's like being gay?

I searched her mentions. No one directed her towards this thread. Bitch either lurks or started it herself.

She made the thread or she simply saw it, she browses Veeky Forums.
Unlike Tao, she never quit.

Nice bait.

Only when riding it constantly. Every time the effects start wearing down it's depression town, for me at least, which is why I avoid it entirely now. M is the only thing that doesn't fuck me up, but it's not as fun as when I was a teen.

I think she started it. These posts by the OP are clearly in her style:

>amazon wishlist
Why the fuck is your glitter so expensive.
Go to a miscelanea.

damn, probably correct

Mira, get Tao in here, we miss him

>the voice of our generation

mira please post your feet i really need to cum really bad ccan you post your feet please thank s mira please

buy me a gallon of glue from amazon then we'll talk

i'll shoot my glue all over your toes, please mira, i need to cum post hte soles of your f;feet please mmira thanks

Are you going to heat up the glue in the microwave, mix in some lukewarm water and take a video of yourself getting a "monster facial"?
Those vids are always lame.

...

Is she drinking an egg?

She’s sitting there staring at a white box in front of her.

If you fucking newfaggots didn't shitpost about her constantly I wouldn't even know who she was

fuck I probably wouldn't even know what twitter was

Mirin Gondola at least can potentially amuse me, all you faggots do is annoy me and kill other threads. Other threads that are probably shit because you faggots posted in them instead of killing yourselves, but surely threads of more aesthetic value than this abhorrent cumstain

Thanks for reading, now please kill yourselves, or leave this thread forever and talk about books

This could be the worst post ever made on this board. Well done.
