Eh, I don't know. I think KISS had a really unique guitar sound, it was primitive yet accessible, heavy yet poppy, rocking yet hooky. They weren't as grim as Sabbath but not as grandoise as Zeppelin, and musically kind of unique...Ace inspired most guitarists of the 80s, Gene had a rough quality to his voice that was unique to American bands at the time, and Paul had a lot of soul and RnB flair in his thing. Lyrics? Yeah, kind of generic in the sense that there its lots of celebratory themes about girls, partying, and the general concept of "rock n roll" but I personally like that, I don't see anything wrong with feel good rock and when they wanted to be they were as "dark" as any band, songs like Black Diamond, Going Blind, God of Thunder, War Machine, blah blah blah emphasized this. But they also always had a heavy emphasis on individuality and being yourself, which I find to be an important value.

Sure, and the New York Dolls are also great. KISS have admitted over the years though that they re work other bands shit into their own, hell that's what every band does. Led Zeppelin are one of the most "untouchable" bands of all time and they got big largely by being a cover band because they could fool white people who had no idea about the black people they stole songs from lol. Also as far as the guitar sound itself goes, I feel like KISS was more refined....New York Dolls had a much more garage band/proto punk feel, KISS felt more in tune with early heavy metal bands.

I would say KISS innovated, their particular mix of heavy rock, glam, and theatrics basically gave birth to the next generation of bands. They took from early metal, glam rock, and old Beatles esque pop formulas and made it into their own thing

For better or for worse, mind you.

Exactly, KISS started the era of decadence rock and metal....the American style of glam/sleaze metal that would be dominant for quite some time and probably started with Van Halen after KISS, and their heavier side also influenced the thrash bands who ditched blues and went full on with a combo of kiss style riffs, NWOHM, and punk influence. Whether you see that as a good or bad thing is up to you and your own preferences, but nearly every big band for the next decade after KISS had their heyday was directly influenced by them and their philosophy in some way

Thrash was more a mix of punk and NWOBHM, going crazy up and down the scales with more complex chord progression which came from NWOBHM like Iron Maiden, Venom etc and heavily distorted sound and raw speed which came from punk, KISS was more bluesy, slower and all that

Sure they have influenced it in some way but influence can mean anything, like how I was inspired to take up singing and shit in metal bands by the old rock stuff my dad used to play in the car like Led Zep and other classics even though musically I am more of a heavy metal singer, I can definitely believe they influenced these bands to take up instruments and all that kind of shit and get in to music but musically I don't hear it.
