Whats the consensus on the flu shot?

Do you get yours or no?

No, I don't want to get sick.

I have asthma so I get one every year. Young people in general are better off not getting the jab, you need to give your immune system the occasional workout and the flu is seldom dangerous for young people.

Fuck no. The flu is a weak disease to be getting shots. Just knock back elderberry extract if you get sick and you'll be right as rain in only a few short days.

I usually do not get one, since I am in a low risk group and they often run out before all the old folks and such can get one.

if you are in any off the risk groups yes, if you arent than fuck off

Yes, i interact and treat 100s of ghouls on a daily bases. The filth and infesting abilities of man is unimaginable. Get dosed or contribute to the plague.

Only inmuno-let virgins get the flu vaccine, real men infect themselves with HIV to build stronger resistances.

I already have autism.

No

If I die from the fucking flu I deserve to die

the flu shot isn't just about your personal immune system it's about making sure you're not a vector that can infect immunocompromised people

no i didn't, to lazy. maybe i go this week donate some blood.

Made me chuckle

Those people are polluting the gene pool. Murder them.

The flu virus mutates all the time.
You'll still get sick.
Happened to my mother.

Not getting that shit.

Not falling for (((their))) tricks just because they wear the science mask.

I get mine because a major component of my job involves herding the elderly.

If I didn't have to get it, I wouldn't, but only because I'd rather just get the flu than feel crappy from getting the shot. At least I'd have an excuse to take a few sick days.

No because I don't want incompetent nurses to infect me with autism

I had a math prof (he works in mathematical bio) give a class section about the flu. He recommended that everyone be immunized because it does seem to lessen the spread of the illness.

I'm actually sick at home with the flu right now. It's not fun.

This. I haven't had one in 8 years and have been fine.

How long until my fever breaks? My baseline T was 97.5F, last night I was a degree higher, and today it's been 99.5-7 for a few hours.

99.9 now it's been nice knowing you guys

Dude fevers below 100.4 or so aren't even significant.

if my baseline was 97.5 with this thermometer it's closer to 101, no?

Even if that was true (it's not, exactly), it's still a pretty low fever.

Calm down, take some tylenol (if you haven't already) and drink some Gatorade or something.

I haven't had a cold in years even when people around me are always getting sick. I like to think the flu virus likes me because I help to spread it and getting a vaccine will ruin our relationship.

Oh please, we all know you're also polluting the gene pool you fucking neet

Never gotten it. Never will.
I'm not anti-vax, I have everything else, but the flu is not life-threatening for 99.99% of people in Western Society, and it's unnecessary.

My aunt is a nurse and she never gets it either, and said everyone who gets it inevitably gets the flu years later and when they do it's 10x worse.

I'm pretty sure cancer must be an hoax too, I haven't had one since birth.

You can't pollute the gene pool if you don't reproduce.

>My aunt is a nurse and she never gets it either, and said everyone who gets it inevitably gets the flu years later and when they do it's 10x worse.
That sounds like an anecdotal conclusion rather than anything worth listening to and I certainly wouldn't let it weigh in on my decision whether to immunize myself or not.

Not that I have ever gotten a flu immunization, nor do I plan to in the foreseeable future.

Got the flu for the first time last year and it wasn't so bad. Just got three days off work so I wouldn't go infecting other people.

I'm a nurse practitioner so I'm required to get it :(

hello m'lady

im a dude

Yeah, I do. I have some upper respiratory issues that make me high risk plus I already have autism so I'm not really worried about catching it from a vaccine.

oh so you're an engineer?

>My mom got vaccinated and still got it
>Im young so its alrite

Look up what the vaccine really is, so you can understand why sometimes it just doesnt work.

Your retarded ass coughing in the bus can lead to someone dying.

Its a large-scale game of disease control and public health.

It's surprising how often nurses have completely fucking retarded opinions about medicine.

hummmmmmmmmm are you saying women can't understand medicine?

nope, primary care provider :D

can you not read you dumb frogposter?

No. There are plenty of male nurses these days.

>caught two newfags

I admit I don't come to sci much

The Vaccinated Virgin VS The ImmunoChad

I didn't get mine because I was afraid of needles (lmao) and my mother was OK with it because she remembered being vaccinated by Soviet doctors which left permanent scars on her arm and infected her. I am currently on a 10 year streak of not spending a single day in bed, even when everyone around me spends weeks at home recovering. Really sad desu, I even used to walk around in a simple shirt for the whole Russian winter trying to get sick and get a day off, but it never happened.

I need this

If they made a vaccine that actually worked I'd do it.
>the vaccine makes you sick
>doesn't work of EVERY type of flu
>lasts less than a year
WTF is the point?

What if the Flu is a contagious nocebo? What if we're all always carrying the flu virus, but the sound and sight of someone sick is enough to trigger a nocebo effect and lower your immune system enough to get ill. What is the flu is one giant mass hysteria?

Nah because it's full of mind control drugs and fluoride and causes down syndrome

Someone make this please.

(You)
Man, with the absolute state Veeky Forums is in nowadays i dont even know if you are a run of the mill retard or baiting for them juicy yous.

Kinda fun that you hear the most retarded shit in the science board.

Yes.

Well if your boiling right now you should listen to and drink some liquid sugar.

>not an argument
When you can't argue based on logic, just insult their intelligence, right /pol/?

cdc.gov/flu/professionals/vaccination/effectivenessqa.htm
>ACIP now recommends annual influenza vaccination for all U.S. residents aged 6 months and older. These universal vaccine recommendations make it unethical to perform placebo-controlled RCTs (randomized controlled trials) because assigning people to a placebo group could place them at risk for serious complications from influenza
Proof that there is no proof flu shots work better than placebos. I know people who get the flu once a year at the EXACT same time every year even if they have a flu shot. You can't tell me simply being in proximity to a sick person doesn't induce a subconscious fear and that might trigger a nocebo effect. Nocebo is a very real and studied phenomenon. All I'm asking is, how can we know how much of a role it plays in spreading the flu?

It's pretty normal to see retarded science-related stuff on Veeky Forums rather than on /po/

Unironically yes. I don't want to take vacation time to be throwing up for a few days. I went through enough of the flu in college to know it makes no sense not to get the shot.

I get it because I work with a lot of people and cold/flu spreads like wildfire

Kek

I have nothing against it but I occasionally skip years. I got it last year and forgot to ask about it this year at my annual doctor visit. That being said the flu isn't a big enough deal for me to go out of my way to get it.

It causes autism. I know because I got the shot and I have autism. Be wary, I got the shot 6 years ago and I have been masturbating to pony porn ever since.

>Anecdotal evidence
>Showing absolute lack of knowledge on the matter

If you read the link you posted, you would see that multiple trials have been conducted on influenza vaccine, showing different degrees of efectiveness.

I have never spent more than 30mins in pol in my life, and dont give half a fuck about politics in general

As for the nocebo effect, there may be a somewhat impaired immunity caused by stress, and that can be a factor on developing the disease but there is a huge gap from that to implying implications like

>What if we're all always carrying the flu virus, but the sound and sight of someone sick is enough to trigger a nocebo effect and lower your immune system enough to get ill.

The virus and antibodies generated against it can be detected.
How do you suggest we carry the virus without causing an infection and immune response, and without it being eliminated.

Are you saying that is more plausible than the well proved method of droplet transmission?

If you look up how the vaccine works, you will understand its shortcomings. Nobody promises godlike immunity against flu, everybody is well aware that its impact can be very poor, depending on the season.
That is still better than nothing for the patients at risk, and the more people is immunized the less will the epidemic spread, and the less people will die, ideally at least.

tldr

Go get the 'tism needle goyboy

never

I use lauriciden, megdoses of liposomal ascorbic acid, medicinal mushrooms;Shiitaki,Miataki,Reishi, Cordycpes and frequent cold water immersion to beat off the flu and other virii.

never take the flu shot . never have ,never will. I am 54 and rarely get ill. In the winter in new England I go about in shorts and T shirt sans overcoat all the time unless its snowing heavily and I need to remain outside for very long..

I don't usually get one.
I used to get them while in college.
If your everyday life brings you into contact with a lot of people, or through high traffic environments, it might be better to get one.

You haven't felt heatenings until you've gone over 104

Why don't they get a flu shot?

No because I don't have a shitty immune system. My girlfriend got it, sneezed on my face multiple times, still didn't get sick.

Just a reminder that people are advised to sneeze into their upper shirt sleeves instead of their hands, as a place to direct the sneeze that isn't likely to come into contact with other humans

No. I'm not in a risk group and it infuriates my wife (she's a nurse) because her cousin or something died of the flu despite being an otherwise healthy person in their 20s. It's one of the few ways I can assert my independence.

GodNIGGERfucking damnit this is why normies are such a danger to everyone this time of year. They don't even know which infectious disease they're spreading. You had VIRAL GASTROENTERITIS, which is not preventable by the influenza vaccine or any vaccine.

You can also get the Flu vaccine via nasal spray.

Your wife is a nurse and you think you aren't at risk of getting the flu?

If you're a healthy adult that doesn't interact with children or the elderly, it's possibly not worth the time/money it takes to get the shot, especially because it's effectiveness is so variable.
If you can make the time though, there's also no real reason not to take the shot anyway.

I just didn't get mine because I'm lazy.

All are talking about getting autism. What vaccines are proven to cause is something much, much worse. Nacolepsy.

You got to pay for it in USA?

Don't you mean narcolepsy ? And we only talk about autism ironically.

I work in a hospital where it's mandatory unless you want to wear a mask at all times during flu season.

I don't want to wear a mask at all times during flu season.

Are you being purposely dense?
Is it that hard to google your claims before posting?

A single (1) vaccine created for the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, by one pharmaceutical company, was correlated to an increased incidence of narcolepsy.

The seasonal vaccine is perfectly safe

How about get the jab so you don't get sick and risk contaminating others, dumbass. Dicks like you are part of the reason flu spreads as bad as it does.

She gets the vaccination.

Only if you're an idiot.

That would be a reason to get a flu shot silly

Yeah I get one. I can't believe any of you motherfuckers saying "No" have ever had that actual influenza in your body fucking your shit up. It's very convincing.
