No?

I feel for those in USA/Canada who need good GPA, ECs, MCAT, essay-writing skills just to get into med school. But the ride never ends because they have to get into a good residency program then fellowship

Hate? no. but they're usually some combination of annoying and whiny

most of the hate stems from the fact that to be successful in medicine you only need 3 skills:
>writing
>reading
>memorization
most Veeky Forumsentists view it as ezmode because you dont have to have pretty much any original thought. and biology is the weakest of the sciences as well.

No, it's just a vent for my fear of the dentist.

I respect the shit out of doctors because they have to manage so much possible information, and work extremely long hours.

I wouldn't say it's ez mode. I think most people on Veeky Forums would be adverse to the idea of being a doctor because of the memorization studying. Memorizing is easy. Memorizing a shitload is not.

The amount of academic integrity when it comes students on the pre-med track is extremely low. That's what I hate about med students

Only premeds. MDs are fine.
And also believe themselves to be genius while they're hardly above average.

med students and doctors are legit, although sometimes gaps in their knowledge can be pretty funny. But, what can you really expect when they're drilling tons of info with all their time.

Pre-med isn't actually a major, so, people who declare themselves pre-med often just come off as douches who don't care about the science they learn on the path to being a doctor. I think this becomes a broader narrative of med school hopefuls because some of them just constantly complain about needing to know shit, and have no appreciation for chemistry or physics or math or thinking about anything other than how they just want to be rich already.

I botched first sentence; I just meant people shit on the for memorizing but there is so much to know before you can get into practice that it's understandable.

OP here. Seems like the hate is mostly towards pre-meds. Since I'm from Europe, I sadly don't understand your hate (we don't have any "pre-med", atleast not in my country).

Do we hate:
>Doctors?
No.
>Medical students?
No.
>Premeds?
Yes. In general they're dumb shits who barely get through classes way over their head by rote memorization. Most of them will never enter a medical program. Even fewer will ever wear a white coat.

Medicine contains some of the hardest disciplines in STEM. Endocrinology, neurology and oncology for example are all insanely complex fields.

i dont hate doctors, but i do hate pre-meds. they're the most insufferable students around

Describe pre-meds to a non-american

students who intend to apply to medical school after they receive their bachelor's degree

because medical schools are so competitive, they obsess over and dispute every lost point on homework assignments and tests and generally act like they're on the verge of suicide if they get a course grade less than an A-. they also tend to be really obnoxious and egotistic

all the mds in my family are in it for the moneygrab, the only concern with people dying on them is the possibility of being sued. bloating fees x10 over the actual cost, blocking people from life saving procedures? having contracts with overpriced pharma companies for the gains, with the same effect? not their problem. and i won't even go into the stories about fuckups that happen.

it's a disgusting profession based on limiting the supply of professionals, and exploitation of the general population by forced helplessness. on the ladder of beings they're on par with loansharks.

Imagine that you're a student who's excited to learn about, say, biology. You're a sophomore biology major who one days wants to do go to bio grad school, do bio research. You're in your first microbiology class and you're just super happy do finally be able to do "real" labs, and learn "real" material after your year of general bio, which was just a repeat of your high school biology class.

Now, imagine that three quarters of your bio class is filled with people who just couldn't give a shit about microbiology. They don't see the point of learning microbiology, because it won't help them "cure cancer." They're very vocal about this. They have a hard time paying attention and understanding the material because they just don't care about microbiology. But they NEED to get a good grade in microbiology, so they ask inane, dull questions about the material that reveals their fundamental lack of understanding. After every thing that the professor says, they ask "will that be on the exam?" They take up time in office hours having the professor repeat basic information, instead of letting you discuss interesting questions that you have with the professor that may lie outside the scope of the course.

But that's not even the worst thing. They act like they're better than you for not caring about the material, because THEY are going on to "save lives," and they're going to have a "huge salary" (I once met a student who "wanted to find his wife in college" because he'd make so much money once he graduated from med school "no one would love me for me"). They brag about their course load, the amount of hours they spend studying, and yet they seem to be just struggle with even the most basic principles of the field.

This is actually the shared experience of basically EVERY natural science major, since premed students have to take bio, physics, and calculus courses they inevitably end up ruining class experiences for pretty much every other major.

To get into med school you need to take gen chem 1-2, physics 1-2, org chem 1, biochem and bio 1-2. You also need to take the mcat. You can go to med school without having a medical background as long as you take these classes.

Pre-med is a psuedo major designed to streamline the process of getting into med school. There are NO requirements to be premed. Many of these people have no business taking stem classes. There is no garentee premed students had a high sat score or good prospects coming into college. This means these people absolutely shit up the entry level stem courses and stand out from your typical chem/phys/bio major. Many are not prepared for the content and typically dont care.

>tfw have a best friend and roommate who is pre-med
>constantly have to hear her whine about how hard O chem is and who she has to take all these biology classes she doesn't care about
>she has a nervous breakdown every time she doesn't do super well on a test
>has been hospitalized before after one of her panic attacks from realizing she might not be good enough for med school

To be honest, I don't think she'll make it. She just doesn't get the grades to get accepted even though she tries really hard. And she's had so many nervous breakdowns and panic attacks over it, even if she gets accepted she still probably won't make it through. Getting into med school is only the first part of a long journey.

Why doesnt she become a nurse?

pretty much the same problem with nurses

If you can't pass the pre-med with good grades, you can't pass a nursing program. You need at minimum an 80% average in most of your classes in order to actually do the nursing clinical stuff to get registered.

Studying to be a doctor and actually being a doctor are too different things. Being a doctor is not easy. It's a horrible job.

Nursing isn't as easy as most people tend to think.
As this guy said.

Not even joking, she unironically wasn't accepted into her school's nursing program.
So after some soul searching, destructive behaviors, and a move to another school and state she reevaluated her life and decided to work towards med school.

This girl unironically decided that after not being accepted to nursing she was going to work towards being a doctor instead.

I don't have the heart to tell her how stupid she is.

Have you fucked her at least you cuck

Tell me pls, i am 4 course ms and after my residency i want to get 2nd high education in math or physics , cause i rly like them. Is it wasting of time and am i retard?

Yep.
That's the benefit of living with a female roommate. When we drink she gets really flirty and comes on to me. Then she feels bad about it because "she doesn't want to complicate and ruin our friendship" and says to forget it happened. But it always happens again.

Sorry, but I think you mean "symptomologists", OP.

Nice.
I live near campus with my wife, in a house we rent. The amount of pussy on parade makes it a challange to stay faithful.

lmao. Well at there's always prehospital care, although it'll probably take her a few tries to even get to EMT-B level. God bless us if she ever gets into ALS.

Assuming you're not shitposting, what makes you want to leave medicine? I'm taking the MCAT in January and wouldn't mind hearing some negatives from your perspective

What country? Does 4 course mean you are in your 4th year? Is the 4th year the last year of medical school before residency in your country like it is in the US?

Because Prehealth students are CHAD and it's just easier to hate on CHAD

>not business

This. I think 90% of my biochem major were premeds, and I really let it get to me.

I wonder if there are doctors out there who don't understand the only reason we can mass produce human insulin is because of people who studied microbiology. Or maybe the ones who don't care about biology never made it to med school.

>watch Dr. House series
>apply to med school and graduate
>some intense Dr. House live action role playing
>be a total dick to nurses and colleques
>why people dislike med students and doctors?
>???
>profit

That's awful. I'm a premed student and I think if someone going into a science field doesn't appreciate science or math, they shouldn't be in it. I also wish those people death. Ill use them for my experiments when im a surgeon ;^)

Ikr why are there so many chad like people going into the medical field? It drives me crazy. I fucking hate them. They're idiots and are all egotistical

No, why would I?

currently double majoring in pre-med (yes, major) and electrical engineering, AMA

All of the knowledge that is put into their medical books could just as easily be put into an expert system while the tests can be done by less-trained and lower-cost nurses.

It's like having a pilot in the cockpit of a plane that has autopilot and can land itself. They are just there to talk to the passengers and make them feel comfy.

They are just high-dollar boots on the ground.

I give more props to surgeons and the boys inventing new treatments/drugs.

advice youd give a highschooler?
what classes did you take in highschool?

uhhh take all the APs you can
nothing can really prepare you for college because it's literally >=50 hrs a week of work
I took dual enrollment for my senior year. Not necessary but I hated my high school

hi I have a discord for pre-med students, pls join: discord.gg/xQEPXp3

>Do you guys really hate doctors and medical students?
Yes, with a passion
>Why?
For a great many reasons that no med-fag can ever truly deny. They're passionless faggots who want to do it for the money because they grew up broke AF and ache to have stuff or they grew up rich as shit and are scared shitless of ever having to go down in life style. They're GPA whores who make professors miserable by autisticly screeching about every single point on even low level assignments. They're not at school to learn, develop soft skills, develop as a person both physically and emotionally, they're there to boost their GPA and apply to med school. Because of this they're always insufferable and often will take up valuable undergrad lab positions to pad their resumes often by lying about their intended career choice to the professor to get said position (I've seen this so many times). They also assume that EVERYONE wants to be a doctor but are too much of pussies or are too stupid to try even when being a doctor is legit the last thing you'd ever want to do in your lifetime. I have also never met a med student who didn't violate the academic integrity policy of a school every chance they got because fuck actually having to show that there's something you legit don't know.

Personally I've never gotten on with anyone pre-something but atleast law fags and engineers are honest with themselves.

Just remember, not all. Especially not me. I don't care if I don't get payed at all. I just want to do surgery, and I will.

Yeah but your kind are extremely few and far between and can often be the most insufferable because they know this and behave like they have some kind of higher moral fiber and character than others. THOUGH you do get the one guy who knows he'd just legit enjoy being a doctor and wants to do it simply because of that and doesn't wear it like a badge.

i dont have a higher moral fiber i have no morals and i dont care if i hurt people i just want to do surgery. I don't care about helping people that much I just absolutely love anatomy and the science of humans.

Then be happy being the one in 1000 who people don't want to choke out.

>that awkward moment you realize there is no science in surgery, you are literally a glorified mechanic

His language makes him sound like one of the sociopaths who commonly become surgeons. And if he wants to make an honest and lucrative living that way and he doesn't mess with anybody else, then god bless him - to a point.

You sound like one of the many highly-functioning sociopaths who populate the profession of surgeon. As long as you stay cucked by the mandates of the law and of your profession then in principle I have no problem with you doing your thing and making your money, though one should exercise a certain suspicion about surgeons as people.

It does take a certain lack of empathy and detachment from the human condition to be able to cut people wide open on a regular basis and play around with their bloody bits. Even when the patient is under.

Microbiology major here.
Right on the fucking money. Fuck these people. I just want to study denitrifiers and iron oxidizers with fellow microbiology majors who love similar shit, but these fags shit up my undergrad experience.

I should add that it's funny and ironic that your "blunted affect" (as I read it, anyway) and (if true) being a sociopath as I've suggested actually makes you preferable to the other premed students that these other anons seem to hate so much.

yawn, electrosynthetic microbes are way cooler

>Biology is the weakest of the sciences
I don't get this meme

I hate doctors in general because they always deny my prescription requests.

Funny, I hate doctors in general because they always just throw pills at me to get me out of their office asap. Usually it's been about mental health stuff and just getting endless SSRIs thrown at my face whatever the problem but there's also docs that aren't sure if my illness is viral or not but gave me a heavy-ass course of antibiotics anyway. Basically these types of doctors could be replaced by pill-dispensing machines.

As for med students, around here medicine starts at undergrad and is fairly hard to get into (because of the heavy lobbying from the doctors' union to restrict the amount of doctors trained despite the entire country having a shortage of doctors, thus ensuring their salaries stay bloated). Med students generally let it get to their heads, even if they think they don't, and act like med school was what everyone would have done if they could and like bringing up their major asserts their superiority.

biologists don't lift, unlike mathematicians

Im probably JUSTing my haematology and oncology exam tomorrow lads
For the third time

I usually have no troube memorizing lists of shit, but chemo courses and shit is next-level fuckery to remember

I just wanted a salary, free time and a gf what the fuck am i doing

Remember to like and comment

>best friend
>her
Are you a girl or are you gay?

Cant even quote OP properly fuck

brb killing self

Us

Because, imo , in math and physics y need to use your brain more, than in medicine. A lot of ms cant even say what is induction or solve different math exrs and so on. They only study medicine and have very small amount of knowledge in different fields.

shit argument m8 everyone specialises

In my experience biology has less rigorous methods for gathering data compared to other sciences. My brother was helping with a study where they measured the number of dear in a park by spotting dear, and assuming that there were a dozen more they didn't see for every one that they did.

Medicine is literally a shit field with barely any good results. It is a massive money sink.

Biology is a big field. Stuff like systems bio, QTL mapping, GWAS, randomized controlled trials, epigenomics, and the like shouldn't he limped in with ecological field research (not to say that ecological field research is totally bankrupt as a field.)
I do think that there are a lot of garbage papers out there, even in top journals like Nature or Science, and this is due in part to the fact that biology is moving incredibly fast meaning reviewers don't have the time to really understand everything 100%.

I don't hate Doctors or medical students, but after going to med school I lost all affection for the field and developed a severe hate for the healthcare system (europe here).

>free time and a gf
>in med school

Sure that sucks but you do realize everyone, including you most likely, does this for every class that isn't in their interest? Can you honestly say that you didn't complain about the liberal arts classes you had to take for core? Or act superior to the actual English, sociology or whatever majors are in that class? I mean you're just complaining about something everyone does.

Your experience is extremely limited

Nope. I'm a straight normal dude.
We each just like different people. I had my old gf and she dates who she wants.

Why is a guy and a girl being friends so strange to you people?

I don't like doctors because they want touch my pee-pee, and somehow they aren't molesters.

I'm in med school right now and really enjoying studying pre-clinical stuff (cell biology, physiology etc) but working as a doctor seems horrible.

I'm thinking of switching majors after my pre-clin stuff is done. Any ideas? Leaning towards molecular biology

I wouldn't say I hate them...I have known plenty of good doctors. Speaking as someone who is working a trade that works with physicians and went to college on the side for an unrelated major, I took some of the same classes physicians did, and physicians are not as academically special as they or the rest of society think they are.

Many medical schools turn down stellar students with excellent GPA's who would excel in both medical school and a medical career; Ironically I have known failed pre-meds who would make better doctors than some of the successful ones I knew.

Admissions are unnecessarily competitive, and the environment it creates in the pre-med classes I found myself in for my major was toxic; it bred a certain sort of arrogance in the pre-med students. I notice this same toxicity in the medical field as well, and I swear to God, I can't wait to be done with working in hospitals. I also dread going to the hospital after taking these classes and possibly meeting one of my former classmates as my future doctor.

>GWAS
ha

Stay in med school and become a pathologist and do research
