because it sounds a hell of a lot cooler than Mathematical Engineering

science : A particular area of knowledge or study; a recognized branch of learning;

science : A discipline, field of study, or activity concerned with theory rather than method, or requiring the knowledge and systematic application of principles, rather than relying on traditional rules, acquired skill, or intuition.

science : A branch of study that deals with a connected body of demonstrated truths or with observed facts systematically classified and more or less comprehended by general laws, and incorporating trustworthy methods

from Latin scientia

what a retarded fucking post

I think they should call it Computer Computer.

fuck no it dont lol

In what way is it retarded?

long, said absolutely nothing, and still comes off as pretentious

It means that "science" doesn't equate to utilisation of the "scientific method", unless you specify in a given context, that it does. In this, mathematics and computer science are sciences.

the context is Veeky Forums. there are other boards for things that are "science" but not science.

no.

computing computers

what else would you call it?

applied math with compilers?

Would it not be more accurate to call it computer logic? It shares more in common with formalized philosophical logic than it does modern science.

For example research in quantum computer is scientific.
Some work in complexity theory might also be considered as a science.
If you have an engineering field (and CS has a lot of engineering topics),
some might consider research in that field as science, because it follows heuristic methods.

>Computer "engineer"

Nothing triggers me more than this

Somebody post that gif and source to that lecture, please. It's on YouTube but o lost the link.

astrology science
esoteric science
Luddite science
bible science
etc.

Computer science is a misnomer, it's really the study of systems.

lmao that sounds so much more intelligent than "muh computers"

Everyone agrees that the English name is shit. Even CS students.

...

Sounds advanced as fuck desu

it doesn't get shit done

t. engineer

Came here to post this

CS is in fact a science, mathematics is also an experimental science. It may not look like it to you undergrads reading rudin or whatever but how those theorems and "slick" proofs were found was with hypotheses, trial and errror

nah, "science" as in the general word, not scientific science, is better because the field is actually extremely broad. T.bh it should be broken up and dispersed into new fields + preexisting fields.

How is computer science the study of systems? That would be cybernetics, buddy.

Is software engineering something Veeky Forums considers an engineering field??

What a homossexual.

Depends. Compiler/assembly software engineering or wordpress/javascript "software engineerin"g?

Audible kek

>"Am computor scientist"
*crickets*

>"I am a mathematical engineer"
Literally every qt asian grad student on your dick
