So I've been told by a professor at university that calculus is a "meme". What did he mean by this?

A meme is an idea that is persistent. The term was invented by Richard Dawkins.

It means your professor is in all likelihood reading this right now.

stop making posts like this

it's handwavy, watered down into mindless repetition which anyone can do and no one understands. it's a shame, analysis is very rich and intuitive.

drop dead

Wow fucking retard, if it weren't for calculus we wouldn't even have invented the wheel.

Why do you think Archimedes was the only man that ever reached an IQ of 250?

he's not saying calculus is bad retard, he's saying it's taught awfully

my sides

Technically every idea is a meme.
Calculus just happens to be a useful meme.

a full circle ie a wheel

>So I've been told by a professor at university that calculus is a "meme". What did he mean by this?

It means that it is a set of ideas that can be transmitted from one mind to anouther.

many people think calculus is something only "smart people" can understand

Because all of the calculus you spend 2 years learning in undergrad is just 1 operator and its inverse on R^n, the rest is just memorization of how to use it in trivial cases even wolfram alpha can solve.

I was told in my calc I class that "Calculus doesn't exist"

>undergrad
Americucks lmao
>paying like 50000$ to learn Calc

Its really unituitive compared to stuff like fractions or quadratic equations etc. that's why people say its difficult not because learning the rules is hard

We had wheels before calculus you autistic handbag

>What did he mean by this?
He meant (inadvertantly) that he is a retard.

Memes are cool.
He wanted to say that calculus is cool.
