Tried to volunteer for a lab and the professor treated me really bad. I wasn't even asking for paid work.
Don't be mean to undergrads.

Fuck

kekekekek
>I'm kekking sooo fucking hard

I can't tell if you actually find it funny or if you're making fun of me for sharing a news story link. pls no bully, this is supposed to be a safe space for autism.

dun worry lil buddy, I'm not making fun of you
I just think have a prostitute prof would be an interesting experience

What did you do?

I just went there to see if I could volunteer for the Lab. I'm electronics and they work with signal processing... I really liked their work. And two guys who work there explained everything and spoke so nice to me at my first visit.
So I just went to see how's the policy for volunteering and the chief professor told me to fuck off and learn MatLab (after I said that I already know it), and other just bad mannered behaviour... I'm so sad. They looked so down on me.

>Don't be mean to undergrads.
this is why I'm mean to undergrads

Get bullied, nerd.

At least you gave it a go. Bound to be some dickheads around, don't let it stop you from trying again friend

>tfw engineer
>tfw not homeless
>tfw suck dick because I want to, not because I need the money
Feels good man

Ah, justice.

This is how mad scientists are created.

>" chief professor told me to fuck off and learn MatLab"

top lel, are you paraphrasing? sounds like something a Veeky Forums shitposter would say

prof probably didn't have the time / lab space / inclination to take on some random undergrad (since you'd probably need a lot of training on the lab's specialty to get up to speed enough to start contributing)

still lame for prof to act like that tho, what a dickhole. It costs him nothing to let you down easy.

I think you dodged a bullent here OP

>Don't be mean to undergrads.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Know your place faggot.

t. OP's professor

I haven't told anyone to fuck off recently so unfortunately no, but I would have loved to be the one telling him to fuck off.

There is one thing you faggots need to understand. Undergrads are worth less than dirt. LESS THAN DIRT. I wouldn't even wipe my ass with an undergrad in fear of my asshole becoming retarded.

>having such a small penis that you take pleasure out of bullying kids

lel fuck off nerd, literally no one cares about your research either

>HE's an undergraduate
>in a science lab

Woah Rick take it easy. Must be hard for you to endure all those dumb people around you.

Undergrads are meant to search for this kinds of opportunities where I study. It's a scientific starting program.
Yea, but he could've just said that instead of acting all stupid. I also think I dodge a bullet. He told one PhD to shut up when he tried to help me in the conversation.

Is this a public university? I don't see how anyone could do that in a private uni and not get kicked out unless he's a superstar in his field

>this is supposed to be a safe space for autism.

Reread that post in rick's voice. sounded pretty spot on lel

Yes, it's public. They can get away with this kind of bs because the government will never ever fire them.

>fuck off and learn MatLab (after I said that I already know it)
Maybe not well enough. Did you actually prove that you know what you're talking about?
>other just bad mannered behaviour
Such as?
>They looked so down on me.
Of course they looked down on some electronics
>He told one PhD to shut up when he tried to help me in the conversation
You shouldn't need "help" in the conversation.

Brazil?

Yes.
The student just tried to help me out when the guy asked what I was interested in... We had chatted before and he's a really nice person. Just wanted to end my suffering.
>Of course they looked down on some electronics
It was in the electronics department. And it's one of the hardest courses here around.

More people apply to be volunteers than you think, and they ESPECIALLY get lots of undergrads who are applying to "help" as a means to an end within their studies, and aren't particularly invested in the actual selflessness of volunteering. But I'm not saying this is you, and don't give up, simply keep applying and you'll find somewhere eventually.

Thank you.

Brasil

>Tried to volunteer for a lab and the professor treated me really bad.
I think you leave out some parts of the story, for example the part where you behaved like a bad-mannered bitch

>mfw the government fell for the soça meme all thanks to fucking Gramscism

I did not. I swear I was very polite and respectful. I tend to respect - a lot - people who know more than I do.

What Uni? UFRGS? USP?

Prefer to not disclaim. It's a Federal one in the South.

be really happy it took that short of a time to realize that lab is run by shitters. Some people join a lab and think everything is fine and then a month into it their adviser turns shitty.
But yea this isnt super uncommon, even as a 1st year grad student you sometimes get shit on by people who forgot what it's like to be in that position. If ever you doubt your PI's personality, avoid them like the plague.

You might have been like the 5th person to apply that month don't let it bother you because it's not personal.

I'm from UFRGS/Math. A lot of engineers complain about their professors here. Our ones are pretty chill.

What a sad person.

Yes, I didn't realise that some high position people in academia are like this. It's all overwhelming as a 1st year, so it's easy to fall on these traps.
Yea, maybe. Gonna check with my colleagues to see how's the overall view about that particular lab.
We have the same professors as the physics and math courses. They're great. On the other hand, the engineering professors hunt you down as if you want to steal their jobs. Btw, my uni is at an island. Know where it is, right?

I got it. Sucks for you man, but don't worry, a lot of opportunities will show up if you give your best.

Thanks a lot. :) I'll find another place, for sure.

>I wouldn't even wipe my ass with an undergrad in fear of my asshole becoming retarded.

>as a 1st year
what exactly did you say to the professor you dumbass freshman?

See
.

>hating on undergrads
>not enjoying being their senpai

why don't you stop beating around the bush? it sounds to me like you asked to volunteer, he asked what you were interested in and some simple questions to see if you knew anything, you failed miserably, and then he told you to go away and learn matlab for real. am I wrong? then tell us -exactly- how it went.

You're sweet, researcher-kun.
Dude, can you chill? You sound awfully interested my little anectode.

hm Brazil, I think is pretty normal to tell people to shut up there, it is?

as universidades públicas americanas também tem tuition

not OP, but fuck off

>Dude, can you chill? You sound awfully interested my little anectode.
see? you're a fucking loser. you went and sperged out, and when the prof turned you down for being such a loser, you came to Veeky Forums to vent and make him look bad, which is fucking pointless in an anonymous board when you don't even give any specific info

git gud or git out

dude, fuck off

No it's not. Where did you take that from? It's as impolite as anywhere.
Dude, what? Stop, please. I didn't come here to make anyone look bad. I'll stop replying you.

you came here to tell lies and whine. your thread is shit and you should feel bad.

>No it's not. Where did you take that from? It's as impolite as anywhere.

Travel and reading, I dunno, but it seems that a "fuck off" even between working colleagues (not friends) is common, well, that's what the videos said:

>They are pretty intimate, and swearing and kidding are not uncommon even between simple working colleagues or students in the same classroom.

It's a different kind of "fuck off". Jokingly, ok, that is common, but in a serious tone and matter, it's really impolite in any situation like every place in the world.

Tu assiste todas as aulas dele?

We are at the same island, user.
It happens to the best of us, you see. I had a similar experience when trying to first volunteer at an experimental lab in my department, in which the responsible professor was a total jerk. Although I was certainly demotivated at first, the months came and went and I was able, after a while, to work at the central laboratory of the university for this subject, due to an entirely different route (I have not talked to that professor ever since).
Not only that, but the central lab responsible team actually acknowledges my point that the professor cultivates this stupid behavior with everyone around. Even working at the same field, they do not stand dealing with such rudeness, thus creating a rather unexpected distance between both research groups.
Either way. Just keep studying, be interested in the fields that you consider most appealing and try to focus in different possibilities. You might end up working with it in a totally different context before you realize it.
Also, English, once we are not at >>>int .

That Italian fucker would be proud. We are all screwed.

>"porra anão, só pq eu ia te ajudar, tu tem que acreditar nesses sistemas retardados."
>disse o estatista

to

>I'll go into an american anime imageboard to mess around with other brazilian faggots in another language
fuck off

>implying

Good to know there are other anons here :) Thanks for the kind words. I'd pay you a coxinha.
Yup.

humanities lecturers deserve this. notice also they never mention mean pay for adjuncts, just a bunch of anecdotes.

there wasn't a single STEM lecturer in that whole article too.

Maybe prof was having a bad day. Not everything is necessarily about you, young faggot.

>working for free

I seriously hope you don't do this
