Start with the Greeks

>Start with the Greeks
>Realise how simplistic and boring Christianity is when compared to the classical worldview
>Feel sadness at the realisation that Christianity was an intellectual regression which set western civilisation back 1,000 years.
Seriously, in the entire Christian era after the silver age of Latin and before the Renaissance and it's rediscovery of classical texts, we had *ONE* great author: Dante. Now, Dante is seriously good, in fact probably the second greatest poet who ever lived, but that just shows how sui generis he was in his own time, his genius all the more amplified in fighting against the current of a barbarous age. Apart from Dante, all of Christian literature before humanism is AIDS and cancer compared to the Greeks and Romans. Imagine what great works we could have had if Christianity had never destroyed the pagan world.

Hey I'm a Christian, take it back.

>Seriously, in the entire Christian era after the silver age of Latin and before the Renaissance and it's rediscovery of classical texts, we had *ONE* great author: Dante.
Wrong. Chaucer, Daniel, and Cavalcanti are all great authors.

Guess what, Nietzsche realized the same thing almost 150 years before you did.

Did you get that stupid drivel from History Channel or what

Christianity includes the best parts of paganism and expands on them, it's not like one day one weltanshauung disappeared and was wholesale replaced by another.

christianity didn't destroy the pagan world, low birth rates by romans and high birth rates by barbarians destroyed the pagan world

>Chaucer
Granted. He is drinking from the well of Dante, however, so one and a half.

chaucer "drank from the well of" boccachio not dante u fucking plebeian shithead

>implying the pagan world was destroyed

It's alive and well. Just looks a little different.

What is the House of Fame lol

Masonic Eye of Providence is not necessarily Illuminati. It could be just that --- Eye of Providence, symbol of God looking over the world, the triangle representing the Trinity. Otherwise, beautiful and well-done picture. Consider also Osiris-Isis-Horus as God-Mary(or Holy Spirit)-Jesus, or Father-Mother-Son trinity in general.

You haven't read any Christian literature. Fuck off you brain-dead Hellenophile.

Greek and Roman literature isn't good.

Enlightenment and Renaissance nonsense is beyond disgusting. I can't stand but vomit at your kind.

''''classical texts'''' did nothing but cause centuries of boring one-note literature based upon making allusion to a non-existent canon of myths and the terrible proponents of them.

Carmina qui quondam studio florente peregi,
flebilis heu maestos cogor inire modos.
Ecce mihi lacerae dictant scribenda Camenae
et ueris elegi fletibus ora rigant.
Has saltem nullus potuit peruincere terror,
ne nostrum comites prosequerentur iter.
Gloria felicis olim uiridisque iuuentae,
solantur maesti nunc mea fata senis.
Uenit enim properata malis inopina senectus
et dolor aetatem iussit inesse suam.
Intempestiui funduntur uertice cani
et tremit effeto corpore laxa cutis.
Mors hominum felix, quae se nec dulcibus annis
inserit et maestis saepe uocata uenit.
Eheu, quam surda miseros auertitur aure
et flentes oculos claudere saeua negat!
Dum leuibus male fida bonis fortuna faueret
paene caput tristis merserat hora meum;
nunc quia fallacem mutauit nubila uultum
protrahit ingratas impia uita moras.
Quid me felicem totiens iactastis, amici?
Qui cecidit, stabili non erat ille gradu.

Poem by a Catholic, Roman senator while he was in prison being tortured by the Arians, as good as any pagan poem.

It's not like if Greek and Roman poetry was THAT good tho. BTFO by japanese and modern occidental poetry at any time.

This image reeks of conspiratory thinking, "the church is the illerminaty" shared by slack-jawed holy-rollers on facebook.

Christianity being originally from the middle-east, and not forming out of a vacuum in space and time, naturally took many symbols and archetypes from older traditions of the region that had since long taken on new meanings. Equating it with "pagan" is absurd in that if those symbols and archetypes are not valid 'Christianism" since they origins in something older, then what is? Even if you are using those pagan elements in defense of the Catholic Church over Protestantism as a richer tradition is still misguided. Everyone has their own idea of when Christianity "started for real" because everyone has their own agenda to push and their own very personal interpretation of what the religion *should be*

The obsession for puritanism is one of the most destructive forces in any religion. It turns any religion into a dead husk, a managerial philosophy, empty moralism.

Catholicism is not Christianity.

the illuminati were all diests and/or protestants, saying the catholic church is illuminati is fucking retarded

You wouldn't even have the NT without the Church.

Why do you accept Revlations?

Why don't you read the Didache?

Why don't you read the Shepard of Hermas?

>HURR WE FOLLOW DA BIBLE

That was assembled by the Church. You will note that there is no divinely inspired table of contents before Matthew.

If anything, this would just make Catholicism even cooler.

Anyone else not like Christianity because of how cheesy it is presented most of the time? Gay ass Christian rock bands, those modern "hip" churches, the pope being a spineless heretic.

It's the pet perspective of Chesterton in his apologist's guise.

I prefer that shit over Islam. If people have to be religious, then I want them to go with the mildly annoying one rather than the really annoying one.

Granted, it poisons politics, it poisons art. On the other, hand it isn't going anywhere-- what it needs to be is appropriated by able hands.

>fat chance

>it poisons politics
muh rome!!!!!!!!
>it poisons art
muh arm-by-side statues of blank-faced naked men!!!!!!!

k but what about Milton

the quality of posts is extremely important to this community

That's cute, but i was referring to right now. SF59's ok, I guess..
