I've always wanted to try a glass of proper cow's milk (i.e. without all the nonsense hormones added and whatnot)

UHT milk has basically been boiled to kill any spores or bacteria. it can last for months. Boiling milk will denature some of the protiens and likely ruin the flavor.

Never seen this in stores in burgerland so I cant say how it tastes compared to real milk

In the US, pretty much all milk spoils within a week, at least in WA. First time Ive seen UHT milk was when I went to Italy. Tasted pretty bad. The fresh milk is about as good as ours

What he said.

UHT milk also tastes very sweet and weird. People generally buy it so they can have milk storaged. You generally don't have to keep it cool either.

hormones aren't added to the milk they're added to the cow you mental titan, you

do you mean unpasteurized milk? because that's the only major change that will likely affect flavor

UHT milk is ACTUAL milk. All milk in the USA is pasteurized. The difference is the temperature at which the milk is pasteurized and for how long. Pasteurization is essentially a form of canning.

Normal pasteurization lasts 30 mins at a certain temp (google it), and that will lend the milk a certain shelf life before you open it and after you open it, in the US usually for your gallon container is about two weeks of date and a few days to 7 days after you open it.

UHT is what they call aseptic canning, the milk is packaged into a bag and that bag is pasteurized at a ULTRA HIGH TEMPERATURE for a very short period of time, high temp will scorch the milk, so UHT milk will have a "sweeter/burnt" flavor for some people, others can't even tell. It lasts six months or longer in a tetrapak container and also about 7 days or longer after opened.

>what does real milk taste like

If you're in the USA, unless you own a dairy cow, you will never find out.

Most states have some faggoty laws about purchasing raw milk from the store, so you need to purchase it directly from the farmer who milked it.

Check out www.realmilk.com for a listing of farms in your area that sell raw milk

you ever read the article on the raid on the farmer selling raw milk? shits hilarious and sad at the same time. like dont they have "real crime" to take care of?

im from Argentina and have a farm.
it taste better but sadly it can get a lot of bacteria , "dulce de leche" and honey also taste way better without all the chemical bullshit but still is some risky shit.

A dude once sold me honey with 4 dead bee on them , it was kinda disgusting

>What does UHT milk taste like?

Is long life milk really this rare in the states? I'm surprised it's completely normal in Europe and Australia, and we also think Canada is weird for putting milk in bag.

UHT just is just regular milk that's been "canned" (sterilised and placed into a air tight sealed package, not condensed milk).

The difference is like fresh tomatoes with canned tomatoes. It doesn't taste as good on its own but you probably wouldn't notice at all in a meal.

I'm from the states.
UHT milk sucks ass.
It's also known as "shelf-stable" milk, because it doesnt need to be refrigerated.

It's such low quality flavor that we pretty much only use it as a coffee creamer, or give it to children.

We really don't need long life milk in the states, because a family of four can drink nearly a gallon every day or two.

take your arrogance somewhere else burger, everything you buy from a grocery store is shelf stable, including your fucking honey

how fat is your family?

hola iorio

>take your arrogance somewhere else burger, everything you buy from a grocery store is shelf stable, including your fucking honey
Actually we have options. You can choose what kind you want to buy. I know that's a crazy idea in socialist utopias like venezuela

>how fat is your family?
I already said we're american. that should answer your question

>honey isn't always shelf stable
please continue with your tale of fiction.

lechoooncito maaaamon

qué bacterias? no sabés que la leche se puede hervir para esterilizar??

provinciANO

I've got to say it surprises me. I think it Yanks would love that high-tech convenience regardless of tradition or food quality.

I mean you guys put cheese in aerosol can...

aguanteeeeeeeeeeee

>All milk in the USA is pasteurized

No. I buy raw milk from a small dairy where Cletus sells it at the farmer's market. Stop lying on a Liberian lightning sorcerer's board.

Well technically it's not an aerosol because the cheese does not mix with the propellant. The inside of the can looks more like a syringe, and the propellant in the bottom just pushes the plunger up. But I see what you mean.

Having soft meats, pate, and cheese in cans or tubes is a global phenomenon. American just made the spray can because they're SO fucking lazy that they cannot squeeze a tube onto a cracker.

I'm honestly shocked that we don't have spray can potted meat (because I'd really love that)

>If you're in the USA, unless you own a dairy cow, you will never find out.

That isn't true. You can buy it straight from the farmers. They get around it by selling under "animal consumption only" There's a small local club near me and I always buy cheese from them, it's very good.

They sell unhomoginised milk here in Australia it's nothing special

I had some unpasteurised milk in France. Awesome stuff, but I'd probably only have it for an occasional treat - doesn't last long in the fridge and I'd still be slightly worried about listeria and other contaminants.

You can buy crystal meth, cocaine and heroine to, but it isn't legal.
>inb4 on state xyz you are allowed to buy ra...
no you're not. raw milk is illegal to be bought sold or used in the usa

Just because you don't like its flavor, doesn't make it lower quality.

>all this backpedaling
You claimed the only way to taste raw milk is to own a cow. Clearly that's not true any more than if you said the only way to try heroin is to be a pashtun poppy farmer

If you consider that you need to know the farmer you're buying the milk for him to be sure you're not going to fuck him by being a USDA agent and then be subjected to the same type of criminal law that marijuana consumers are subjected to, to be easy access then sure I was wrong.

>I'll just try to flood out this thread until people think I was in the right
no

>b-b-but raw milk can only be sold in back alleys by gangstas in trenchcoats to addicts

Yeah, no. Cletus brings his raw milk to a farmer's market at the county seat located at the courthouse square where a USDA extension office is located. There's a continual line of people buying his raw milk until he sells out. Every. Fucking. Week.

pretty sure that guy is like, some kind of butthurt FDA employee or something. nothing else could justify his level of retardation

Federal law literally trumps state law

UHT might have significantly less folate, thiamin, and B-vitamins. So some people who lack those nutrients will wind up with cracked nails and dandruff

UHT tastes a bit funny
Don't use that shit in any recipes
