does he do audiobooks?

Nah but I was waiting for an excuse to buy this

shniff

Why do you fags worship this reddit "philosopher"

Because he's a sound fella

Žižek is, ironically, one of the best defenders of common sense and a pragmatic leftist.

They are kinda repetitive.

>>r/zizek

Thats actually a good subreddit for finding new lectures and articles of his. Though the community is so small barely any discussion happens

Is amazing how "reddit" has become synonymous with the fear of the great Other.

No it is not, it is typical human behaviour

I thinks a miss reading, I think reddit rather represents the ideal ego, its who people here fear they would end up being without constant vigilence towards their ego ideal.

The fear of Reddit can be easily explained by castration anxiety

Yes, yes but when someone says "this is reddit" what do they mean? Is it a specific adjective to describe something objective or ist actually an abstract idea of "what no to be"?

Here I would invoke the example of the newest form of defamation in Veeky Forums: "reddit spacing". Is that really something real or just a cheap shot to refute an argument attaching it with an "evil reddit" connotation.

>tfw he's going to die in the 2020's

Is the fear of Reddit ideology in its purest form?

>"reddit spacing". Is that really something real

Yes it is, because on reddit you have to double space or a sentence will all be on the same line for some retarded reason.
People recognize redditors aren't simply "normies" though, thats the big difference and why it refers to something far more specific than an abstract other, its an entity which is very interior to our identity itself. They're regarded as nerdy, politically interested, intellectual to some degree and sexually inadequate.

The issue is however that they operates under a commitment to the Superego whereas Veeky Forums operates under a commitment to Id. They're the good boys who listen to Mammy and as was pointed out already accept their castration, whereas people here are wrapped by their castration anxiety.

one of the other issues, which dips from psychology to sociology, is that the larger boards with clear 'user-approval' metrics via upvotes autofilter the contents of that particular subreddit. So, once the population peaks above, say, 10,000 people, any ability to discuss a board topic goes out the window and the 'fastest rising' content becomes a memtic amalgamation of shitty references.

And then you watch that process repeat dozens of times - and then you realize it's actually the same on Veeky Forums, albiet with a bit more panache and whimsical cuckery

I would agree with you but you seem to have forgotten something and that is that "reddit" is no longer synonymous with "good boys" and "pc" but are now quite the same as those who invoke this insult. One can argue that the increase in /pol/'s cancerous activities could be directly linked to the influx of r/the_Donald's refugees. In a way reddit has become Veeky Forums.

...

>In a way reddit has become Veeky Forums.
I refuse to believe such a thing and frankly I think you are a madman and a bigot

good post, almost my exact thoughts

It precedes the election and the Donald subreddit by some time though - in fact, the most likely inception point was when Veeky Forums's content began to populate reddit in, say, the late 2000's and early 2010's, which caused redditors to come to boards like /b/. When they became acclimatized to Veeky Forums's culture, they assumed all there was, was to be irreverent, and lacking in wit, intelligence, or - most importantly - their own fucking opinions, they repeated the most extreme views they could find as loud as they could. Thus proto-/pol/ was formed.

Thats not to say we didn't all say nigger and faggot before /pol/, but it was generally used in a way to admonish anyone who identified as other than user, the racial version of Tits or GTFO

I really do wish you were right

going to correct one bit in this post - 'faggot' was completely and totally ubiquitous in both a sexual and nonsexual context, it was just one of our words in the good ol days

Post your Zizeks

who here /eatingfromthetrashcanallthetime/

ok user but only because I love you

>Implying anyone can escape ideology

CHIM is achieved by escaping ideology.

/r/the_Donald is a tiny niche community within reddit and just gets off provoking the community at large. They're the equivalent of a bratty child in the classroom

>I saw this on Reddit

The worst fate Veeky Forums could suffer, would be becoming an extended comments section for that website

Do you guys think that Zizek wrote himself a b-day card since, unlike capitalist burgouise intellectuals, he sees himself as nothing more than a mere instrument of history?

...

...

he doesnt look like hes almost 70, he looks more like a tired 55 year old

>tfw he was born in the exact year and day as my dad

its J.S. Bach's birthday today. Have you listened to any of his music lately?

Has Zizek even read The Gulag Archipelago?

I'm going to listen to Bach and read Zizek.

Doesn't Zizek come from the Gulag Archipelago?

...

>peterson
stop shilling this fucking hack

Zizek is actually one of the best critics of 20th century communist regimes

What's his best book?

If you're interested in his thought and theory, The Sublime Object of Ideology, followed by The Ticklish Subject.
If you're interested in the application of that thought and theory, then Violence, followed by Living in the End Times.

Thanks.

Which of his books would you recommend to start with? I've seen some of bis lectures, that's about it.

First as Tragedy then as Farce is the mist entry-level book. Not much Hegel and Lacan thrown around. More of a critique of "the end of ideology" and "post-history"

Thanks.

But desire is just the desire of the Other

>all these hacks trying to explain Reddit in terms of psychoanalysis
Reddit is just the apotheosis of Lowest Common Denominator, plain and simple.

This post is pure ideology

>one PragerU video
I laughed

We are not talking about reddit you fucking pseud. If you stopped and read it through you would see the subject is Veeky Forums's obssesion and fear of being branded "reddit".

>In a way reddit has become Veeky Forums.

Yeah reddit is almost like "prime" /b/ nowadays. Eerily regular repetition of specific points and even identical word clusters. Pointless cynicism and irony. "Science bitch" shitposting. DAE video game logic lmao? I can't believe weed is still illegal. Have you heard about this thing this celebrity did? Well I don't care about it HEH!

>the apotheosis of Lowest Common Denominator

Its not though, not even close

You know that there are subreddits dedicated to hating reddit right? No need to stink up this place with it.

Controlled opposition

Violence is pretty good.

What is the origin of this zizik bartleby meme?

He thinks freedom requires for you to shut up and stop it otherwise you continue to produce the same conditions and so on.

If he spends so much time and energy pointing out the flaws in implementations of Marxist ideology, why does he still subscribe to Marxist ideology? Like, at some point any critic of Marxism should start to wonder if there isn't some type of critical internal flaw in the framework because every implementation turns into a hell on earth almost immediately.

Id recommend to anyone trying to get into zizek to read his essays

why do people act like the types of "communism" that have been implemented were wildly different takes that ended the same when it was just stalinism again and again

This is why, as I always repeat, with all my sympathy for Occupy Wall Street movement, it's result was . . . I call it a Bartleby lesson. Bartleby, of course, Herman Melville's Bartleby, you know, who always answered his favorite "I would prefer not to" . . . The message of Occupy Wall Street is, I would prefer not to play the existing game. There is something fundamentally wrong with the system and the existing forms of institutionalized democracy are not strong enough to deal with problems. Beyond this, they don't have an answer and neither do I. For me, Occupy Wall Street is just a signal. It's like clearing the table. Time to start thinking.

>tfw iktf

Sounds like you have an unexamined ideology or ideologies, friend.

>tfw read the entire thread with zizek's voice in my head
>with the sniffles and everything
>and the shirt tugs
Anyone else?

Reddit as a descriptive term makes sense but it gets really abused.

r/the_Donald isn't edgy nor Veeky Forums though. You can always tell those people apart by how they spam unfunny shit like Bogandoff and go on and on about how "lefty are da reaaaal raycists."

...

I've been thinking we need to write an examination of reddit as an adjective and define in detail what exactly reddit is and means. How it refers to the type of opinions and rehashed jokes you'll find on the mainstream subs and what the underlying themes of those opinions and jokes are.

Only way to read desu senpai

Fuck, now his voice is in my head too

Interestingly enough, a lot of philosophical thinkers use the phrase "and so on." Kind of like a short hand, " you know all of the other bullshit people say..."

No. That is not sufficiently interesting.

Zizek plays a key part in developing a new left. He is most critical of other leftists because that is exactly what is needed. The left must be purged of
>dogmatic adherence to 19th century theory or 20th century regimes
>identity politics
>fetishization of labor
>the liberal concept of 'multiculturalism'

forgot to add, this must happen instead of 'haha stupid conservatives racists drumpf btfo xd!' for the rest of eternity

the labor movement needs to be revived and cosmopolitan 'leftist' elitists (your typical hillary supporter) need to get the fuck out

A frogpost with 83 non-ironic, positive replies.
This board is doomed.

As a POC I find this statement extremely problematic. You "socialistbros" are the reason we lost the election, instead of voting for Hillary, which was the only candidate who understood the reality of not beung priviledged, you voted for 3rd parties and you insisted on running a toxic campaign against her when she was running for the primaries. We are the new progressives, deal with it you commie fascists.

Don't bother with his big theoretical works unless you're already interested in heady issues in social science and the rest, sublime object, parallax view, ticklish subject, shouldn't be read first. I recommend his incredibly comfy popular political books where the technicalities are sparse, he's a great essayist and is really good at illuminating different subjects without simplifying them at all, books like Living in the End Times give a fascinating tour through entire archives of history, popular culture, classical music, cinema, literature, politics, science, he really reads and watches and listens to and is open to just about everything. His concepts seem obscure and there's been all this awful academic secondary literature on him, the worst example is probably Adrian Johnston, of people who try to clarify his work and explicate it, when really it's best read as it is. Žižek risks being sucked up into the academic interpretation machine which he hates so much. At best his books are pretty open and work in the intersections of our intellectual life.

Only read violence, can't remember any thing apart from the Gandhi bit and the dirty jokes

This and First as Tragedy, Then as Farce if you're somewhat familiar with Marx

The Parallax View is end-game Zizek

Just make sure you don't have to read it twice!

If you need a terse explanation on what "Reddit" as an adjective is all about, you should examine their use of the "/s" after their posts to signal that their post was sarcastic.

>We are the new progressives
>Aren't prograssive at all

what does he mean by ideology?
just watched that movie and don't fully understand it

Ideology is like the static background of any societies idea of what reality is.
Its an accumulative product of all the major influencial forces pushing their conception of reality throughout history and today.
Its a white noise which is always present in how we think and communicate but being so used to it, we don't even realize its there.

WEEEEEEEW

...

Race politics and multiculturalism are a plant by the corporate state to divide the workers. Some idiot 'leftists' will tell you that racism is a tool used by the right to divide the population but here we can see better.
