What's the point of using this piece of shit...

What's the point of using this piece of shit? Why should everyone learn some bullshit syntax if the same can be done 1000x easier in MS Word or any similar software?

>if the same can be done 1000x easier in MS Word

you say that... but good luck

elitism.

The latest versions of MS Word support latex syntax so it's very easy to manage.

ms word lol

it's free software with great flexibility that is simple enough to learn. It just werks

looks a lot better and is easier to use when typing a lot of math imo

MS word:
>add one image or a table
>entire document gets fucked

LaTeX:
>make a table or include graphics
>picks the optimal place for you
>document looks good

typical comment of someone who never tried to actually make a document with more than 3 lines.

LaTeX is clearly better than Word for a number of reasons, but the syntax is fucking ridiculous and I can't imagine there isn't a better way to achieve the same thing.

>You can use an equation editor like Symbolab do automatically generate LaTeX codes
>Type once, run anywhere and it'll look exactly the same anywhere, unlike docx documents that get fucked when you change your editor
I don't even need to say anything else, these two reasons are enough.

Just because you're a brainlet and having a hard time using it does not mean its shit

ugliest shit I've seen all day

and I'm coming out of your mom's house

I always feel like they started with basic math, realized how stupid the syntax gets for anything that's not basic addition, and said "fuck it" and kept it anyway.

Do it in Word and post it then, engineer

To not be a [math]F^agg o^t[/math]

>implying these random, scrambled archaic ancient runes have any actual meaning

>[math]\rm\LaTeX[/math] is hard
Someone please count this faggot's chromosomes.

>faggot
Why the homophobia?

They are defined elsewhere in the document, you dip

>We
>I
Pick a person, faggot.

>optimal
Kek. Still much better than word.

because Donald Knuth is our autistic lord praise be.

>What's the point of using this
It separates real scientists from pop sci plumbers.

We get this issue every two weeks, Time for pasta?

Not him but I did my PhD thesis in LaTeX. It was rock solid.

Later I was documentation responsible on an industrial project and I had to use Wrod. It had the stability of jelly nailed to the ceiling.

Try LyX.

You ARE aware that Word (or RTF) uses a similar syntax under the hood.

>not using word to program latex

t. retard

You don't seem like you're in a field where you would need to learn this.

fuck off, it's a rough draft

>not making everything in photoshop
brainlet

>What's the point of using this piece of shit? Why should everyone learn some bullshit syntax if the same can be done 1000x easier in MS Word or any similar software?

>be me
>hate the absolute SHIT that is LaTeX
>butt hurt that my professor makes me use it
>decide to be a cheeky rebel and use MS Word
>Open document begin typing project
>UGH so EASY. Why isn't LaYSUX this simple
>as paragraph takes form, notice the indents look weird and the spacing is awkward
>it's okay... Just do this and that... There!
>have to type equations and the steps required to get from one to the other
>Alt + till my hands fall off
>intents in previous paragraphs ruining my paper, equations everywhere
> can't get anything to align properly
>inserting pictures fucks up my paragraphs, headings and ewuations
>bu-bu-bu-but MS word is sooooooooooooooooo much simpler than LaTeX
>finish paper after days of work
>Chad friend finished in a few hours after the project was assigned by using LaTeX
>mfw I'm a whiny bitch who can't learn a 5 minute typesetting language

you're supposed to do the formatting last dude

>having to format things at all
Eww.

>the same can be done 1000x easier in MS Word
MS Word files look ugly

[math]\mathbb{I like}[/math]
[math]\mathcal{Latex}[/math]

That's just an example. Other things that are easy to miss in Ms Word are auto labeling of equations, easy referencing of figures, citing papers, creating sections that auto number, create custom commands for uncommon equations, reworking how the .tex file compiles based on a .sty file, creating slick looking beamers you can use for posters or PowerPoint, the list goes on. Everything you do in LaTeX is designed to save you effort down the road. Sure you have to learn the syntax, but this is so commonly used that a quick Google of your issue will fix your problem.

>having to format things at all

obviously never actually done anything in latex besides play with 3 equations
