Fried chicken can be pretty messy so I wouldn't go that route myself. Just grill some burgers or chicken for something easy and outdoors. I usually have a German style potato salad but you can do a macaroni salad instead. Regular green salad too. Make your own ranch if you're trying to do the American stereotype theme. Food wishes has recipes for all this stuff.
