Hey cu/ck/s i'm going to be traveling to Des Moines and wondering what restaurants are noteworthy.

Also, mid-west genertal

I fondly remember looking down at Idaho as I flew over it, and contemplating the true nature of the potato.

Then I went somewhere else.

Do they even have things that are not chains there?

what

>Des Moines
>Idaho
This is either quality bait or you're a true American

What are you looking to eat while here?

Ur mems box

Wisconsin here

Not too many noteworthy restaurants, everything that is great about our food is best in the back yard or around a camp fire. Beer / Cheese / Beer Cheese.

If you're ever driving through pick up a 6-pack of New Glarus Spotted Cow, grab some aged cheddar, 4 years or more is best, and if you can find fresh cheese curds get on that shit fast.

Holy shit does Madison look comfy desu

Krunkwitch has some killer ramen
Apocalypse Tacos has big burritos
Fighting Burrito for quick bites
Flying Mango for real Carib comfort
Zombie Burger burgers are wacky
Cheese House has tasty charcuterie
Hessen Haus feels like Bavaria
in Ames, Hickory Park is tops for bbq
Blu does Pan-Asian right
A Dong's specialises in Vietnamese
Django is French excellence
Lucca for Italiano autentico
Fongs puts Chinese on pizza
Centro does neo-American well

>Smokey D's BBQ (most awarded in the state by far, I usually get the burnt ends, but everything is good)
>Uncle Wendell's BBQ
>Tasty Tacos (original (beef/bean)soft shell taco, or pork enchiladas)
>BeBops (if you must get fast food burgers)

I go to 'Fawns' if I want Thai food.

Don't eat at Abuelardos unless you want food poisoning from money laundering illegals, even though it's 24/7.

Don't eat at Felix&Oscars unless you want bad service and a $5 coke that will never be refilled with your cold Chicago deep dish garbage.

What's the nigger situation in that city? It looks nice.

Madison fucking sucks now, it's full of niggers, pan-handlers and meth addicts.

About 10%.
They're concentrated in Des Moines itself, barely any in the rest of the metro area.

Stay off the South and East side of down town and away from Drake University and you won't see many.
They've been gentrifying down town pretty hard for about 10 years now.
It's very hipster.

Just use common sense and avoid lousy places where you see them.

Did you just make up those restaurant names?

All real Des Moines restaurants

Krunkwich on Google

That's a pretty decent list. It seems to hit most of the big names except 801 and the Drake dinner. Bubba's is also worth a try.

This list seems to be just about downtown, but if you go east there are plenty of good Italian restaurants like Chuck's, and if you go west, you'll get plenty of chains, but Des Moines is littered with restaurants. This list barely scratches the surface.

I've eaten at all of those and I personally recommend zombie and Centro as well as 801 and Drake dinner. A lot of the restaurants here are too experimental and overhyped. Especially krunkwich and apocalypse (they way over-salt). I'd recommend hessen for atmosphere alone, but the food is honestly meh.

I'd recommend hickory if it was in Des Moines too.

There's like one bad spot but the rest of the city is fine. Madison is diverse for a small midwestern city, but it's diverse because of the university so you have a shitload of asians and indians, not a ton of blacks.

It's unreal how comfy Madison is.

Also, forgot to mention that Zanzibar's breakfast is the best that can be had anywhere. Trust me
