Who's the best fantasy author since Tolkein?

And why is it Sanderson?

I love the way he has multiple worlds connected through this big Cosmere with some characters crossed over. That just does it for me, along with his world-building.

Sanderson's stuff is borderline YA and I hope it doesn't have too much influence on the genre going forward.

I agree with both these points, and I would add that, although he's still very formulaic, the stormlight books have had by far his best characterization and I hope his writing continues to improve.

For me it's Michael Cisco, though I guess he is a bit more surreal than typical fantasy

bitch please.

sounds like he's ripping off Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion.

Ursula LaGuin for the win! :D

...

Jack Vance

...

His arms are huge.

ironic shitposting is still shitposting

Don't know about best but Joe Abercrombie's First Law was good. He went downhill after the initial trilogy though.

This guy. Or Vandermeer.

Tolkien was pre-emptively usurped by Robert E. Howard as supreme fantasy author

Please no.

I like Prince of Nothing, as edgy as it seems at times.

It's not, it's Jordan

These.

Also, Terry Brooks, but only up to the mid-90s. Somehow he becomes shit in all ways of contending.

Mark Lawrence.
