>combinatorics
not science or math

not at all, never saw any practical use for it
>inb4 math doesn't need to be practical

Kill yourself you faggot tranny. It is math.

>Kill yourself you faggot tranny.
Why the homophobia?

>No practical use
>What is probability

>combinatorics
>probability
>same thing
u wot m8

I never said combinatorics IS probability. I said that it has applications in probability, you foolish undergrad.

See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combinatorics#Related_fields .

Yes

Whoosh u fucking idiot

Wow, great argument. I am thoroughly convinced.

>friend and i math majors
>starts to tell me about combinatorics
>dude, this stuff will blow your mind!!! you've gotta check it out!!!!
>omg man, combo is like. the greatest thing. it's beautiful! it will change your views on math!
>y-yeah i guess...
I just didn't want him to hurt me...

>why the homophobia
why the homophobiaphobia, faggot?

hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

>not at all, never saw any practical use for it
Wtf are you talking about?
It's literally one of the very few math subjects that a layman can make use of in his everyday life.

all math literally IS combinatorics
kys you faggots

Why the homophobiaphilia?

All math is just set theory, and set theory is NOT combinatorics you utter garbagefire.

>this is what set theorists actually believe
why don't you fuck off and shove a large cardinal up your ass

There are so many practical situations that can be abstracted as "things connected to other things".

That's just graph theory.

Respect, yes. But it's still my least favorite field of math.

*reconstructs your entire theory from ZFC*
thank you very much :^)

>muh factorial

analytical combinatorics is hard as fuck

im so fucking confused fuck this shit

combinatorics is unironically the hardest field of mathematics

*makes you irrelevant*

Discrete mathematics is certainly high on the list of fields in terms of beauty. It also has huge applications in probability that you would have learned in Elementary Stats if you had studied more than African Culture Studies at university.

Go play in the ordinals you non-discrete fuck. You and the physicists too.

Define a sequence to be the number of objects at that "size."

Define a power series that has that sequence as the coefficients.

The singularities of the function given by the power series correspond to its rate of growth. So by studying the singularities, you characterize the growth rate of the object class.

That's literally all of analytic combinatorics. The rest is just manipulations.

The rate of growth of the coefficients, that is.

>non-discrete
set theory was literally invented for the purposes of analysis and the continuum

Only if done by Hungarians.

>set theory is NOT combinatorics
but it is

Samefag.
