I work in a deli AMA

...

Do you enjoy your life?

Do you still have all your fingers?

yes , believe it or not
yep, took a good chunk of knuckle off in a meat slicer once though

Subway doesn't count as a deli, faggot.

most and least popular sandwiches?

I don't work in a subway, it was just a nice looking sandwich I grabbed off google images. I work in an Irish chain called SuperValu

What is your favorite sub sandwich?

Most popular: Baguette, taco sauce, spicy seasoned chicken fillet, lettuce, cheese, red onion

Least popular: Anything with cold lunchmeats desu

my favourite has to be a roast chicken, sundried tomato, red onion, rocket, grated cheddar roll with a little chipotle+ garlic sauce

sounds tasty. any interesting stories about customers or weird requests?

worst order that comes to mind is this indian guy that comes in every few weeks and gets a baguette with, egg salad, sweetcorn sun-dried tomatoes, olives and ketchup. the tought just makes me wretch for some reason. weirdest customer story has to be this 80 something guy that comes into the shop every once in a while. he used to come in everyday and get five chicken legs to the point that we cooked an extra five for him everyday, but one day I came back from my lunch and all the other deli staff were in a cluster whispering about something. When I asked what was up, they told me said old guy had been caught in the car park of the shop getting his dick sucked by some autistic guy, who asked for scratch lotto cards in exchange for his services. Old guy doesn't come around much anymore

Did you win anything at the lotto?

I won a free ticket, don tel n e 1 tho

Most annoying customer?

I worked in a grocery store deli when I was younger and it was always the dumbasses that popped in at 9:59 with some atrocious order. "I need a pound of salami, a pound of ham, a pound of roast beef, a pound of turkey, and a pound of chicken, all sliced paper thin. Then I need 2 pounds of sliced cheddar, a pound of pepperjack, and a pound of swiss."

iktf user, worst is when they come in fifteen minutes before you close and ask for freshly sliced meat, despite the slicer having been cleaned for the night two hours prior

>cleaning the slicer two hours before closing
You deserve it

It's a small deli senpai, everyone leaves you by yourself for four hours before you close. most of that is spent serving customers, and I only have a small amount of time to scrub out the hot counter, scour the sandwich counter, take in the salad bar, wrap the ham counter, wash the slicer, bleach the ovens and extractor fans, fill out the HACCP forms, clean the dishes, trays, knives etc., wipe down all the surfaces and sweep out the walk in fridge/sweep the floors. cleaning the slicer earlyish is a necessity really

Never worked in that environment before? There's usually a huge checklist of cleaning that needs to be end of night, and on -most- nights it makes sense to get some of it out of the way early. Occasionally it comes back to bite you, but usually it's the best method to ensure you get it all done by close.

Nobody with any sense is going to blame customers that come in just before close with an atrocious order, but in a general sense it does indicate a lack of consideration (or awareness) on their part.

basically this

I used to work in a deli. I miss getting to make my own sandwich creation with all of the shit there. I developed my own thing that had pastrami, Swiss cheese, dijon, horseradish, and jalapenos on a ciabatta bun. It was spicey as fuck.

yeah, that has to be my favourite perk, nothing like being able to experiment and create the perfect sandwich

NICE!
