The Machine Stops by E. M. Forster

I'm imagining fat people doing nothing while another species attacks. Totally worthless against our weapons.

Anyways, human sexuality is a thing so don't expect people to do absolutely nothing all day like in wall-e.

Player Piano, but it's a pretty weak argument against it from someone with a clear bias.
Also, Piano's automation is not true automation, it's just mass factorization. Still needs humans to do most of the maintenance and control work. So maybe don't read it, it's not entirely fit for purpose.

What happens is this with a few key differences.

>Religion and culture maintain behavior and ideals
>Humans can create their own communities
>Humans might be able to escape, and the world wouldn't necessarily be as limited
>Humans find a way to work with the automation, so that man will still work.

>when automation is 99% succesful succeeds

>when automation can't correct your shitty English

>And everyone died. The end
Jesus Christ, all the mice died?
They couldn't bounce back?

I've attempted this lifestyle and the back pain from constant slouching makes it impossible

Every group of people from the first ghetto nigger to make a fertility statue to the artists of the European civilizations at their greatest moments thought thicc women were ideal. Your perversion is a historical and biological mistake

>Your perversion is a historical and biological mistake

>Equating your preference for unhealthy fat women to some sort of biological imperative

Pathetic.

riders of the purple wage

>no one said The Pale King
it's literally about this is in the most abstract sense imaginable, beyond just technology.

Universal basic income is a stupid concept and gives rise to the same 99% vs 1%/class vs party warfare as communism and capitalism, only without any of the social mobility of the latter.

Just let people seek employment as they desire, dismantle the overbearing Secondary Education system and its stranglehold on professional career opportunities so that people can learn to do as they please without ungodly initial investment costs. Even if they do not make significant profit, automation will drive down the cost of nearly all their living expenses once it breaks the threshold of increasing returns.

Isn't providing for a rapidly growing pool of hundreds of millions of people who add 0 value to the economy unsustainable?

Like, imagine how much power China will have if they automate, but decide not to provide for their citizens. That's money in the bank.

It seems like the goal is GLOBAL central planning, since China and Russia have shown such a system can't stand up to capitalism.

In other words, we need a one world government. Someone with the authority to tell EVERYONE to do the right thing.

>Someone with the authority to tell EVERYONE to do the right thing.

Okay I'll do it.

True automation would lead to post-scarcity, there would be no economy as it is currently defined.
Even by Marx's retarded Labor Theory of Value, the machines involved in automation, once they reach a certain point of advancement, can be exploited infinitely, rendering the initial investment of capital into the production of any particular product to be asymptotically 0, and thus making profit margins increase asymptotically, rendering the process of equating these figures to economic value meaningless.

There's a finite amount of precious metals in the earth, though, and a finite amount available at any time. There's gonna be a whole glut of goods involving precious metals (electronics) with definite trade value. Post-scarcity isn't gonna happen.

Industrial Society and Its Future

>automation succesful
>humans still being around

pick one, meatcuck

You do realize we're already living in a system that provides a rapidly growing pool of hundreds of millions of people who add 0 value to the economy, right? You do realize that the entire textile, entertainment, pop technology and automobile industries are at this point churning products at such a rate that they have to make us accept some memes and think they're adding utility to the world, right?

If you limit your resources to A: what's on Earth and B: unrecyclable material, yeah.

Hefty female figures indicate a healthy and fit partner to mate with. It means you're well-developed and not malnourished, good for breeding with.

That is the 'biological imperative'.

I'm sure we'd find something to fight over, and some way to fight for it. Assuming such machines could even be made, that is.

Could they be made?

I would fuck the shit out of that useless hoggish woman.

>impolying that would actually work
