Well, you can be good at solving picture and word puzzles, but what good does it do you if you can't identify a scam?

I think there are 5 layers of IQ skepticism:

1) Pro: "Well, if you can solve the harder puzzles you must be smarter"

2) Con: "But wait, how can puzzles be objective if they're not made by humans?"

3) Pro: "Oh, it doesn't actually matter what the author intended: the solutions are determined by cross correlation"

4) Con: "But wait, what are they cross correlated to if there is no point of reference? Autocorrelation to a false past? This whole thing is bullshit!"

5) Pro: "The cross correlation of question and answer selection simply tries to approximate a histogram that looks like a bell curve. That's all it is, and that makes sense"

you've got it the wrong way round, you can study anything and make contributions to basically anything above 120, with hard work. and you have the added bonus of being able to actually communicate your contributions without sperging out or letting chad get all the credit.

Standard deviation is a man-made concept. Different things can have wildly different SD:s thrown arbitrarily onto them. In the context of IQ tests, SDs of 15, 16 and 24 have been used in the past.

The measure of intelligence is not any test, it's the ability to philosophize about the material you learn and create something useful with it.

You can score a 180 on an IQ test but if all you do is wank yourself off over it, you're a fucking moron. You can score a 90 but be a well learned engineer who designs bridges, you might as well be a genius.

IQ and personality are separate traits. Having a high IQ but being lazy, unmotivated, and unconscientious doesn't make you any less smart, it just means you're probably unproductive.

not really, I've read the majority of the research of the subject - lynn, jensen, gottfredsson etc. I know it inside out
the fact still stands that item selection can be manipulated to produce a completely different population distribution
even the fact that a normal curve is used is only because of ease of statistical use, most physiological traits aren't normally distributed
of course I think intelligence exists and it's possibly mostly heritable, but IQ is mostly a shitty way of measuring complex cognition

Autistic interest in a specific subject will not grant you the spatial and logical reasoning skills required to succeed in mathematics research, for example, while it may very well lead to a fruitful career in a more forgiving, less rigorous scientific field, such as sociology, art or history.

I took one when I was going through a half anorexic eating disorder, as part of a general cognitive checkup I suppose. Got 118. But I did it in the early morning, and I was sick at the time, reckon I can score a few points higher now.
What I do remember was that my VIQ was substantially higher than my PIQ. Something like 137 vs 110. Well, I'm not gonna be a civil engineer I suppose. Wish it was the other way around
