Tfw I only see novels as entertainment but mountains and mountains of pseuds claim otherwise

>tfw I only see novels as entertainment but mountains and mountains of pseuds claim otherwise
>tfw have to read mountains of boring as fuck stuff or else people will claim I'm dumb

If I actually listened to my own tastes I would have stopped reading Brothers Karamazov within 50 pages. I would have given up Nicholas Nickleby after less than 200.

Unlike many other people, the writing or style is rarely something that makes me give up. Neither is length (I recently read three 500+ page James Ellroy books in quick succession, though I know that doesn't count because they were enjoyable). The reality is that these books are filled with stretched out trite nonsense. This was the pulp of its day and now everyone pretends that every single sentence contains profound psychological and philosophical insights and you have to pretend as well. That makes everything doubly excruciating. The book is crap and I constantly imagine the pseuds' specious reasoning about why everything is profound.

Oh, some half assed aside about whether religion is inextricable from government! If I point out that only a pseud could claim that this is answerable a priori (and even a posteriori you could never claim two starting positions are equal) the pseuds would claim it is merely characterisation, a novelistic conceit. When I claim that it was fucking boring they'll claim it is profound.

This is depressing. I once forced myself through an entire 80+ page (and it was the giant collected works edition with tiny text) Plato dialogue where he speculates over whether names are arbitrary or "truly" reflect the "nature" of the thing being named. This is horrific. But pseuds claim I'm supposed to suspend my bullshit detector and pretend this is profound. And after 500 topics like this, one of them may admit that it was a bit stupid, but what about the "literary interpretations" (i.e., incoherent or unfalsifiable extrapolations i.e., bullshitting)? Or the "historical value" (i.e., a bait and switch where you come for the insights and are held hostage by the threat that you have to find all of history interesting or else you're uncultured and stupid).

Of course I have to mention the awful literature related acaxemic departments and their suspiciously incoherent or infinitely malleable and unpredictive "theories", but if they are academics they must be smart, am I right???

>complains that books are unnecessarily long and trite
>writes unnecessarily long and trite rant

>I'm dumb and have shit taste
>baaw why do people laugh and point
Nice blog, faggot. Either stop being retarded or stop being insecure and dependent on public opinion. Also consider suicide.

>giving two shits about what others think and not just reading what you're interested in and enjoy
come on

You're so insecure that you post this here to get validation. Grow up

The evolution of this meme is one of the greatest things I've ever witnessed in my life and I'm glad to think of the ways it will change in the future.

Dostoyevsky prophecized what would happen in 20th century Europe. Read The Possessed and then Gulag Archipelago. Russian authors are some of, if not the best in the world.

Most posters here are pretty conservative, and follow the conservative adage that older = better

>Most posters here are pretty conservative
Are you memeing right now?
Veeky Forums is full of bloody neo marxists

conservative left exists, faget. dig your head out of the honey pot of ideology, pooh bear.

I didn't say anything about left or right
Talk about honey pots of ideology lol!

>Gulag Archipelago

Peterson go home

>tfw I hate the classics, but I also read the classics because I want to fit in. I have no sense of identity.
>tfw other people that understand texts better than I do so I call them "pseuds" that are pretending.

Left is progressivist by definition. Conservative left is an oxymoron. Read instead of shitposting, poltard.

Not the same user, but, lets say a countries social values are conservative, and economically they are socialist, they would be conservative left.

this is why all the non-pseuds are in STEM

you're so far in the cave you'll never find your way out

I liked it

then your pic is definitely related.
you didn't like Cratylus, OP? Try a different dialogue, man. Some of them are not going to be enjoyable on the first run-through especially if a) you're new to philosophy or b) you're new to reading or even c) you're new to Plato.

>If I actually listened to my own tastes I would have stopped reading Brothers Karamazov within 50 pages
You know, this and similar statements make the poster sound really pathetic. Nobody except for stereotypical Veeky Forumsizens and an occasional pretentious academic thinks that everyone should read and enjoy all the classics. So this pathetic fuck is basically submitting himself to an idea that almost nobody actually holds. He is determined and guided by an anonymous imageboard. He fears to disobey it.

>less than 200
I don't have to claim you're dumb
