They should. Even if you max out with reading, the only people who don't lift are /tv/ drones. You have enough time in the day to marathon a decent amount of high literature and start lifting. You can level up in both in 2 hours.

You can lift every other day, in fact, it's recommend, because every day ranges from virtually useless to harmful. So you could run every other morning, lift on your off mornings, or combine both in a day and in a month people will notice. You can knock out both workouts in an hour (tire out both sets of muscles) combined.

Going out for a walk or doing a little bit of recreational activity is fine, even doing a couple of pushups and situps if you think you are that out of shape is fine. Anything that costs as much time and money from a hobby such as lifting weights is merely a distraction from more important things, and is mostly just a social tool.

As for "time and money", unless you want to take supplements, getting fit is cheap, and takes about 40 minutes to an hour a day, not every day. It will not affect your reading and the benefits go above and beyond anything social.

This is not true. You can get an athletic-looking body type relatively quickly if you're starting from a thinner base and moreso if you've played sports in the past. You're right that hulking out requires dedication and (((other means))) but you're off the mark. I won't defend lifting "culture" and the self-help rhetoric around, though.

The cost of a gym membership + extra food is the only valid reason not to lift. It's true that it is expensive. Anyone who denies this is lifting a shitty gym and probably doing gomad + mcdonalds.

What the hell are you talking about? There are a good amount of us that actually do put a lot of work in at the gym. You can easily get pretty buff and have an aesthetic body at the gym. I spend 10-15 hours a week working out at the gym and have plenty of time left over to read and do other things. You're just making sad excuses for yourself. Doing a few pushups/situps and walking isn't going to do anything for you. Put your kindle down for a few minutes and do sets of squats and deadlifts. Jesus. Being physically fit and in good form is essential if you want to have a good mind. The Greeks knew this, and you should not ignore it. I'm able to focus so much more on what I'm reading and writing after killing myself at the gym every day.

SS is excellent imo, but most newbs fail at either:
sticking with the program
not evolving the program to their needs
diet

With SS you'll learn a few basic things. How to lift the basics, to diet, to rest, all based on a lifting program, not just "being an active person". That said, it's very barebones, it doesn't include many accessories that are beneficial or needed. Once you are past 2-4 months you have probably learned the basics, and you can start adding accessories.
The no cardio is a meme, you do need to keep doing cardio. Biking is good, so keep that.
The SS diet is shit, so get that from anywhere else. Go-mad is a joke and is only for the skinniest of skeletons.

You're doing something wrong. Gym can be cheap, you don't need to have a pool or sauna in your gym. A squat rack or power cage, a bench, and some cable machine for rows, maybe some cardio machine, is all you need and they are cheap.
McDonalds is more expensive than cooking a full healthy meal at home. Make your mom cook for you or learn how to do it yourself, dumbass.

This is like people who "dont have time to read". You actually don't have time to do something slovenly and bad for you, like watch TV or play videogames. If you work out one hour every other day, and you can do your arms and cardio in that time, and your other down time for reading you will still become fit. There is no way, unless you're working 30 hrs a week and a full-time, 15 hr/week student, that you don't have that extra hour (and even then, you probably do, and would probably be better for it). If you are reading every second that you are not showering, eating, and working, you must be living a miserable existence.

baby steps is exactly how I pace myself, like I said, 30 min sessions, twice a week, basic compound exercises, some minor improvements, adding weight only if I'm absolutely sure I'm making no progress anymore, and then one day bam elbow joint gives out and I can't even work out with reduced weight for weeks. It's really demotivating and I don't want to do it anymore.

I don't fucking want to, I used to squat 195 for 5x5 before law school, I tried again this week, a year later. My gains are gone. My diet is shit. I don't sleep enough. I'm weak and the mental fortitude it took is now gone for other purposes. Also the school gym is full of silent bros, it ain't the lifting senpai like at the old Olympic/strongman gym I used to go to where people would help with form and be friendly.

Question. I'm 5'11, 210 pounds. Not terribly fat in the gut, but I have huge ass and thighs. All my weight seems concentrated in the middle of my body. I used to cycle a bit in high school, and it kinda leaned me out. I'm no thin by any means, but what kind of result do you think I would get with this body type within a couple months of working out? I'd like to get lean, but I really don't see that with my body type.
