Dude, there have been like 3-4 Benjamin threads in the last month or so on Veeky Forums, and in each one there has been a couple of poltards spewing their conspiracy theories about benjamin being an evil marxist casting kabbalist spells in effort to murder the white race.

That whole conversation is uninteresting and leads nowhere constructive. I'm a socialist cultural zionist anyway, so I am one of your demons (and we will win). Also, the Benjamin threads on here so far have been shit and carried by one or two people. And I don't him to become a meme.

FS was more elitist when it came to mass media and their aesthetics were more a reaction to avantgarde experiments and revival of german idealist aesthetics. the 68ers rediscovered benjamin's aesthetic essays and clashed with the "old fashioned" FS over role of pop culture and so on.
apart from that frankfurt school did use benjamin as a "charismatic guru poet" who anticipated them, like heidegger did with hölderlin or german idealists did with jakob böhme or giordano bruno.

The only truly offensive member of the Frankfurt School is Adorno, who remained uncompromising to the bitter end in his bristling hatred of everything he saw and depended on. This is antithetical both in itself and in terms of liberal virtue ethics that demand you believe in the society you live in. But what Adorno saw in Schönberg's twelve-tone serialism was exactly a strictly ordered way of advancing contemporary music as a guard against the new free form improvisatory styles of jazz. These new improvisatory styles, especially in their radical free forms, was in general embraced by the European art vanguards from the surrealists onwards.

Adorno hated this 'degeneracy' and wanted to save classical composition, a semi-reactionary position. He is very much contrary to the general avant-garde movements.

In theory critical theory sounds interesting, but every time I see a critical theorist they're spouting non-sense that makes undergrads studying Nietzsche seem like decent human beings.
