if she's already attracted to you then she'll like either of your opinions
if not then it's irrelevant what you think

Decide for yourself. If you like him you like him. He's ok but I think the hipster crowd has elevated him to a god.

That one girl in the Haruki Murakami book--the lesbian--dressed like Kerouac.

>what did i mean by mentioning this?

I read On The Road like a year ago and honestly don't remember much. is it worth going for round two?

I found that one to be one of his weaker novels desu. Dharma bums and big sur were better imo, HOWEVER, if you don't like the stream of consciousness/Beat Generation style writing that focuses on drugs, drinking, being free and happy while simultaneously being isolated and depressed, you won't enjoy Kerouac. He was groundbreaking for his time, but you have to keep that context in mind. Most people who read him today are mostly pretentious hipsters who think he's glorifying drugs and drinking when he's actually providing commentary on his generation, or people who think he tries too hard to be hip and cool (when in reality he basically created the modern hipster culture)
Sorry, rant over

for me "on the road" typifies the soul of bebop

I like bebop and thus I like "on the road"

What if I've never talked to her in my life and we've only made eye contact maybe three times

you're an insufferable faggot and i hope you get run over by a bus or shot tonight

it's true though, it captures that age well

i know its true thats why he/you are an insufferable faggot

>liking bebop

absolutely degenerate

And lemme guess, you only listen to Western art music from the Common Practice period, right?

>not appreciating the technical virtuosity of jazz musicians
>not appreciating the spontaneity of improvisation and the spiritual surrender inherent therein
>thinking you're some sort of patrician because of this
just gtfo

thanks user

it's so rare anyone else in this world likes hard jazz

Fuckin nothing beats getting stoned out of your mind, throwing on noise cancelling headphones and jamming out to some jazz in your kitchen with the lights out

well playing it comes pretty close

I'm pretty shit but late night sets in dark jazz clubs have been some of the best nights of my life

actually all music is degenerate

*tips fedora*

*bud ap be dup* Oh, glorious poster I *be bap schwing ba ba loo bap* can't believe that I *da dun tsss be dap* love this cool cat so much, his writing is just so *ba rap ba rap da ding* emotional and truthful and it made me believe in the *de bop* big Pooh bear in the sky. Owieee! *jazz solo*

so this is the famous Veeky Forums """""""""""""""banter""""""""""""""" I've heard so much about

Doll, you're all wet. Boogie your way on outta here *snaps* and go fuck yo mama before I get there first *does the skiddly bop* *becomes godhead*

This actually made me laugh out loud, thanks user.
This is the equivalent of braaaaap posting and I dig it

Have you read Kerouac? Having something thoughtful to say and being able to engage in conversation might be more impressive than regurgitating the misinformation that this shithole will give you.

Not especting anyone here to actually read, though, it depends on the girl. It's okay to like Kerouac. It's better to like Dharma Bums more than On the Road. If you want to be edgy, like Big Sur best.

go to bed Socrates

>when in reality he basically created the modern hipster culture

You're an idiot. Who probably spends his days worrying who people think you are, even when those people have no capacity to judge you. How about reading about Dandy culture, or for a starter, "The Rebel" by Camus. Your self polished knob barely shines. More auto-fellatio for you. And fuck ton more history. Or how about some Wolfe.

t. angry pseud who doesn't like mirrors

go back to r/books

Oh no. They discovered me on the stage. Did you clap for my gun show. Or are you still waiting for it to hail fire. You also forgot the dot, dot, dot, big bro....

Shouldn't you be shooting up a supermarket?

the only answer is the non-committal gallic shrug, desu.

>mysterious af
>ZFG

bonus points if you casually take a drag from a cigarette then tap the ash off it while smiling into the void as you do so

I'm not saying he created hipsters you mong. But go up and talk to any pretentious ass looking hipster and talk about literature with them and more times than not their favorite author is Kerouac because he is the literary embodiment of their "muh drugs, freedom to travel, lets trip at festivals together and lol so philosophical and spiritual" ideals.

jazz is music for people who don't actually like music desu

Prove that On the Road isn't just a more artistic and free-wheeling version of Tucker Max's "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell"

>you can't

This isn't even an insult on this board anymore. The moderated pretension , the "specific" views, the group-think: all qualities here are that of r/books.

Most of you people, myself included, need not just better friends, but better communication skills and the confidence to express a contrary view without projecting their personality as a contrarian.

Surface twats, fully hygienic, razor cut for the gangs appreciation.

Did someone just yell, "War"!

Shouldn't you believe I need to be put away. Cause don't I look like I'm having too much fun for a game such as this. What does a nihilist get for a prize at the end of the peace conference?

this is the gayest thing i've read all week, and i was reading naruto x sasuke erotica last night

>try to prove that this classic book that came out 50+ years ago isn't a more free spirited version of this book that came out ten years ago
T. Brainlet

This was really good user don't listen to the anime weab

Tucker Max (as well as modern frat ""culture"") could not have existed without the moral collapse ushered in by the post-war decadence of the 50s. They are more connected than you know, brainlet.

Back to the subject, but with a reach around? If it pays are through the dessert, bro? Dude's loaded yaknow. We'll get a rise and then get gone or whatever, you know what I mean, pussy.

I know they're connected you dumbo. Kerouac influenced Tucker so why would you try to say Kerouac is a less/more ____ version of Tucker when Tucket is the less/more version of Kerouac?

As a rhetorical device. One is "higher", the other "lower". But in essence they are the same, even though one will never acknowledge the other.

Fair enough. I just got irrationally angry because I thought you were a 16 year old vineyard vines wearing faggot who was forced to read Kerouac in English class and thought he was stupid, but Tucker totally gets me lol *retweets TFM*

On the Road and beatnik culture was the proto hippie culture promoted by jews to mislead kids by telling them that it was cool to worship blacks, live a hedonistic lifestyle, and have no sense of direction. This is what mainstream jewish culture still promotes, it's just a lot worse these days. On the Road is a mediocre piece of fiction and if you think that it's some hip, right of passage, you are simply ignorant about how this opinion of yours has been constructed for you over the last 50-60 years.

Jews want you to read books that tell you being a deadbeat, alcoholic, drug addict, niggertunes worshipping hipster faggot with no ambition is cool because you aren't a threat to them if you are engaging in that lifestyle. White men must fight against this urge and fight against the jew who has taken his corruption of our culture and the youth to new, sick heights.

yeah yeah, maybe. what does Uncle Julius have to say on the matter? find out for yourselves:

Pol pls go

More innocent times, I can understand why Evola would have taken a more sympathetic position. But we can see more clearly now what the intention was, who was behind it, and how it led to much worse cultural machinations.

>disappointed_harold_bloom_with_headphones.jpeg

bloom hates jazz

He's right though

Your opinion is irrelevant. Knowing how to state them is the important part, that's where you build atraction.
Also, do biceps workout before the meeting to get that size squeeze while holding the book.

maybe you will find this interesting.

I wrote one of those comments. Many people are wise to how jews operate these days, and the only people I see trying to create a fake consensus on here are jews who want to downplay the negative effects of their tribe.

I disagree with the vast majority of that article/critique/whatever it is. While he's on to something with the narcissism, there is waaaay more to it than that. Whether Kerouac planned it or not, the overarching theme of OTR was Sal being lonely and isolated. Wherever he got this idea that ""omg what if dean is actually NOT cool?!"" then runs with it and his whole argument depends on that when it isn't really backed up at all. To me, he sounds really insecure like he was bullied by kids who lived this sort of lifestyle and wants to get back at them 30 years later.

The most important quote from OTR is that stupid "I stumble along after the mad ones" stuff every teenage hipster girl has on a poster in her room, but not for the reason most read into it. Instead of focusing on the latter part of the quote, OTR can be summed up just looking at the "I stumble after" part, he's lonely, divorced, and depressed. He latched onto Dean as someone who's living this awesome life until he gets a taste of it himself then realizes he hates Dean, the ideals he lives by, and wants to be accepted and loved by someone who won't throw him out or ditch him when a cooler crew comes along

I don't know. I've literally never read any. I just assume they're out there and that guy should read them and come back here and tell us about him. My strategy with people with inferiority complexes that are over invested in stock intellectual judgements is to Dom them with homework and tease them with poetry. Most of them - let's be honest, I'm talking about you, and also (you) - clearly distrust their ability to argue towards an absolute truth without getting their shit pushed in by an author or a teacher. If you are truly interested in Dandy culture I'd suggest becoming more interested in your ability to win arguments through wit and style - which is how right will win you over, is it not?

Oh, and from another angle McCartney's giving me the old telephone finger salute. The general, "Call me...."

You want others to construct an opinion for you? Are you incapable of independent thought?

>I WANT AN OPINION THAT WILL GET MY LAID
So you're a sociopath who's brainless

>I don't know. I've literally never read any

Somehow I get the feeling most of Veeky Forums is like this

You're supposed to be indifferent to him, but you should definitely be ready to jump and offer the grill of yours to be sacrificiously fucked senseless by Neail Cassady. You may or may not be required to suck some part of his cock off later, but you should be ready to do so if called upon. You should also start wearing blue jeans and white t-shirts in retrospect.

Mirin"

The only sad fact is that most in real life can't show their true vulnerability to others. That as people deeply into books and people who project themselves as intellectuals, they still have no taste which sets them apart, no character that can express another person's point with more wit, no pride in what they would take joy in if they ever gave themselves the chance to indulge in the real pursuit of pleasure. Their opinions are usual only strong when they have erased their own judgement from the original authors, and their knowledge is never wisdom, even when the wisdom could be of youth, which most of them seem either in or arrested to.

We'll you started out strong I'll give you that but then it just turned into projection 101

It's girl shit. It means she's not as freaky as the Bukowski chicks, but one anime or asian parent away from drawing yaoi. You tell her you found it "brave but immature" and suggest "Dean should have been more worried about how obviously in love Sal was with him".

There, I just saved you the worst road trip book ever. If she asks for a better road trip, tell her the scenery in Lolita is more classic Americana than Sal describing Dean again. Get her into Bukowski if you can't swing Nabokov.

>Bukowski is better than Kerouac

Now I've seen everything

He's not better; the chicks who like him are freakier and won't give a shit about your ugmo face.

>Jazz solo
XD

>(when in reality he basically created the modern hipster culture)
His hand is in it but I'd say Andy Warhol's scene has a more direct lineage. Hard to say though, hipster's too big of flag to cover anyone area. Guys at the tail end of gentrification resemble neither and would probably be classified as hipsters

Most jazz musicians sound like they're playing the same thing. Not everything is Coltrane bruh

become the alpha male through some covert display of masculinity (domination of other males)

Go visit r/books if you think this place is as bad.

Arguably quality bait

i think he means it desu

I wrote it, I meant it, and it's true. And this is coming from someone who used to be a huge fan of Kerouac, whom I had a poster of on my wall for a short while, and beatnik culture in general. Used to love that shit. But I moved on and went in various directions, and then I learned about the jewish problem. And then it all suddenly made sense. Jews are mentally sick people who destroy their host population's culture and society by making destructive lifestyles fashionable, and beatnik culture marked the very beginning of that. I know it seems innocent, and that an aura of cool nostalgia has been built around it, but this was really where the west began to culturally implode and drift into the carefree degeneracy that's given us gape porn, a heroin epidemic, and now a third world invasion we're too weak to defend against because we allowed jews control over our cultural institutions.
