Why do you buy books from your local bookstore instead of just ordering it online?

Why do you buy books from your local bookstore instead of just ordering it online?

Why do you order your books online instead of just downloading them for free?

$4 shipping a pop

>paying ~300% of the value of the book for (((shipping)))

Because you can get blind by reading on screen. And because you can't find all of them on the internet. Even if you find them, the translation will probably be shitty.
Because if I order them I need to wait 20 days for them to arrive. And there are some books that can't be ordered online.

>Because you can get blind by reading on screen
This never happens.
>And because you can't find all of them on the internet.
Maybe if you don't know how do work a computer.
>Even if you find them, the translation will probably be shitty.
Maybe if you don't know how to work a computer.

t. someone who knows how to work a computer

Because I don't have a house, computer or Internet connection.

1. supporting a local business
2. instant gratification
3. no shipping cost
4. bookstores are good places to meet chicks
5. not feeding the beast that is Amazon
6. browsing other books while in store
7. can rifle through the book, make sure you want it
8. bookstores often have talks/signings

i would rather my money stay in my community than be extracted by some globalist corporation

Not him, but:
Reading on screen gives me a headache after a while...e-ink is better, but still.
Some books have never been published digitally, legally or otherwise. Some have, but cannot be found on irc, bookzz, libgen, mobilism or any of the other usual suspects. Granted, this is unusual.

Online is for when you know what to get.
In a local bookstore I have the fun of discovery. There's no better feeling than getting a book you didn't know you wanted until you got it.

I preview books at Barnes and Noble then buy them on Amazon. Occasionally I buy one at B&N as a token of gratitude for being such a nice store to be in.

local bookshop is cheaper for a lot of things. if they have it in stock, it's about half the price of anywhere else. p sure it might be a tax deduction for a rich person.

i like the people that work there

>1. supporting a local business
Why should I care? I have to pay fro transportation too.
>2. instant gratification
What?
>3. no shipping cost
Amazon doesn't shard shipping on books.
>4. bookstores are good places to meet chicks
So is the internet.
>5. not feeding the beast that is Amazon
Am I supposed to laugh?
>6. browsing other books while in store
Redundant. You can do that online.
>7. can rifle through the book, make sure you want it
You can read a sample online.
>8. bookstores often have talks/signings
Bravo, that's the only reason to go there.

SD?

When I order books online they always send me the wrong edition.

>When I order books online they always send me the wrong edition.

>Second hand store
>half the covers a ruined, pages fine
> $1

Still order online but I pick up amazing things there. You can also pay $10 and fill a medium sized bag with books.

I do order them online because there's no bookstore where I live.

Because it's nice to be surrounded by people with similar interests. Helps ease the crippling loneliness for a bit

Foolish mortal! I pirate my books and upload them to my Kindle!

My local bookstore only sells new books, no used copies

I went there exactly once, asked them to order a book and after taking forever to type shit into his computer the man told me he was unable to order my book

So I went home bought it from amazon and had it the next day

This. It's worth the extra money.

>Why should I care?
Local business is good for your local economy, which is good for you.
>I have to pay fro transportation too.
Walking is free, so are some buses, and you can always consolidate errands.
>What?
Instant gratification, meaning you don't have to wait for the book to arrive by mail.
>Amazon doesn't shard shipping on books.
That's fine, if you want to feed Amazon's monopoly. And I bet they do if it's a hefty tome.
>So is the internet.
Unplugging once in a while is a good idea.
>Am I supposed to laugh?
That's up to you. I try to diversify my purchases...ordering everything from Amazon kills other businesses, which decreases competition, which is bad for us in the end.
>Redundant. You can do that online.
Yeah, you can browse online, but not in the same way. Both have their merits.
>You can read a sample online.
The sample may not be sufficient or representative of the whole work. To me, there's also something to be said about hefting the book, checking the font size and weight versus just being told how large, etc.
>Bravo, that's the only reason to go there.
I'm glad you found at least one of my reasons to be valid. To each his own.

Thanks for the replies and good reasons, ill visit the bookstore the next time im in the city or when i am in need of new books. My only fear is that they will only have shitty dutch literature (forgot about this part since i spend much time inside), but i might find or experience something interesting there.
